This CGH Earth property is moored on a historic stretch of Cochin's famed harbour, The Brunton Boatyard Hotel was resurrected from the remains of a Victorian shipyard. Today, it gives the modern traveller a unique opportunity to dwell amidst the shadow plays of 19th-century history. 22 of the hotel's 26 rooms overlook the sea, and so, by happy circumstance, do the en-suite bathrooms. The Brunton Boatyard Hotel is your chance to dine from, literally, a melting pot. All the cultures that came to the Malabar Coast over three centuries can be sampled in a single evening. Armed with a map and some comfortable footwear, you can tour the historic Fort Cochin area where the hotel stands. Sadly, little remains of the fort itself, but the other legacies of history are everywhere.

This hotel was a splurge for me, but I went for it considering it took me 2 days to get to India from the US. I am so happy that I made the choice. The hotel is gorgeous and in a great location. Staff is so helpful and friendly. My room was huge and I appreciated the lovely details such as recycling, glass bottles of water, outlets by the bed. Additionally, a nice big breakfast was included, as was high tea, sunset boat ride, and historical walk. A great value hotel and I was truly sad to leave! If I return to Kochi I will absolutely be back.

During our visit to Cochin in March 2024 we enjoyed a dinner in the terrace grill restaurant of the Brunton Boatyard Hotel. After some local starters we had fresh grilled fish with Indian spices, a fabulous tasty dish, accompanied by a local white wine.
The service personnel was outstanding, our waitress Anagha did a great job in a great atmospere on the open terrace. She has been very emphatic and always having a smile in her face.
A very memorable evening.

We were fortunate enough to stay three nights in the most gorgeous suite, #209, with a balcony facing the sea. The suite was beautifully appointed, with a sitting area and a dining table in the huge living room, a very comfortable bedroom, a pantry, a bathroom with a bathtub, a shower and a toilet, and also a separate toilet.
A detail we really appreciated, and made use of daily, was the possibility to get complimentary freshly fruit delivered on demand.
The complimentary high tea was a nice experience, with delicious tea and sweet and savoury snacks. Just after the high tea the hotel offers a sunset boat tour free of charge. Not only was it great fun to be in the middle of the busy waters but it was also interesting to listen to Arun's explanations of what we saw. And we got to see the famous Chinese fishing nets from the water, with the sun setting behind them. Truly fantastic and great for photographers.
We also very much enjoyed the morning yoga session with Ramesh. I would recommend that the hotel advertises the possibility of having morning yoga more widely, since we actually had to ask to find out about it.
The ayurvedic massage was very relaxing, I wish I had had time to have it more than once.
The drinks in the bar were delicious! I recommend the pineapple mojito in particular.
The staff were so friendly and helpful. I don't know the names of them all, but would like to mention Arun who was always around when you needed information, Aswathi (housekeeping executive), Sanjay and Surya (which means sun, a very suitable name in this case) at breakfast and in the restaurant.
Next to the hotel there is a ferry. It is a noisy affair, which starts at 6am and goes on until 10.30pm. You can be disturbed by this, and the hotel provides ear plugs. For us it was no problem at all, but of course we heard it. We chose to see it as part of the normal city life that was going on around us. That said, if that ferry could be exchanged for a more silent one, it would do no harm!

I contacted the hotel by email over 6 months before arrival requesting a sea view room and to be at the opposite side to the very noisy ferry that docks directly alongside the hotel. The hotel stated that they had rooms available.
Two weeks prior to arriving I again repeated my room request by email. In both emails I stated that I was happy to pay any price premium over the standard room.
On arrival we were given a non sea facing room and the room could not be nearer to the ferry which runs constantly from 6am to 10pm. The noise from the ferry causes noise and vibration in the near room.
Despite my complaints the only concession I received was another room away from the ferry. I was not given a sea facing room. The excuse was that there was a conference starting the day we departed from the hotel. The manager was very ineffectual asking me to forward the emails that I had sent previously. I did this without any response.
The hotel was not busy with guests on the two nights we stayed, the restaurant was again not busy.
The inner garden area and tea room were sectioned off and a large marquee was being erected. The hotel did not notify that facilities were unavailable owing to the oncoming Conference.
The staff at the swimming pool did not approach us to ask if we needed any drink etc during a 2 hour period of relaxing on sunbeds.
Having stayed at the hotel previously in 2008 I was disappointed by the decline of management and booking staff. They spoilt my previous good memory and current stay at the hotel.
I will not stay again.

Too noisy. We asked for a quiet room in advance but then got allocated a room right next to where the ferry’s dock. I don’t think that in reality there are any quiet rooms. The ferry’s start running at 06:00 and stop at 21:00. Before 06:00 there is noise with preparation for the ferry. So overall a poor night sleep. They do give you some earplugs but I find them ineffective and they hurt my ears. We only stayed for two nights and breakfast was cold on both mornings. That was despite telling the manager on both mornings that we wanted it hot. As a result we only had toast which is not acceptable for a supposedly quality hotel. I believe they do a batch of cooking food before the restaurant opens and then serve it up later in the morning. No cereals to eat and only a couple of bananas.
On a positive note the rooms were very nice and the swimming pool is good although the green water (maybe the colour of the tiles) takes a bit of getting used to. However it’s hard to relax due to the ferry noise and the diesel fumes.
The restaurant opposite the hotel served a wide variety of delicious food which we enjoyed.

Namaskaram, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. Firstly, we want to apologize for any inconveniences you experienced during your stay, particularly with regard to the noise and the breakfast service. Your comfort and satisfaction are our top priorities and we regret that we fell short on this occasion. Our location close to the ferry's dock does have its unique set of challenges and we understand how the noise could be disruptive. We are looking into possible solutions to minimize the noise and will certainly take your feedback into account. We are also sorry to hear about the issues you faced with the hot breakfast. This is not the standard we aspire to provide and we will take immediate action to address this. Your comments about the lack of cereal and fresh fruits are noted and we will work on improving our breakfast menu to cater to a wider range of preferences. We are glad to hear that you found our rooms to be very nice and appreciated our swimming pool. The water color is indeed due to the tiles and we assure you that the pool is cleaned and maintained regularly. We're pleased to know that you enjoyed the food at the restaurant opposite the hotel and we hope that our own restaurant will meet your standards in the future. Once again, we deeply regret any inconvenience caused and appreciate your candid feedback as it helps us improve our service. We hope to have another opportunity to serve you better in the future. Warm Regards, Poonam General Manager

Brunton Boatyard Hotel was the third CGH Resorts property we visited during our three-week tour. It was different from the other two as it was one large hotel (instead of individual cabins) and did not have expansive nature-related grounds on the property as did Spice Village and Coconut Lagoon. This was mostly because it was located along the harbor in a larger city.

Our stay was very comfortable and the room was more than we expected with a large bedroom and bath with beautiful tiles. We were lucky to have a second floor room with balcony that gave us a great view of the harbor, its birdlife, and the busy stream of boats and ships going by.

This was the first night on the whole trip where I had a chance to use the pool. It was unique in that it had jets like in a jacuzzi. It was a great way to unwind and loosen muscles after all of our traveling.

Dinner was ordered from the menu and not the spectacular buffets like the other two CGH resorts. The highlight for me was the artfully prepared and absolutely delicious berry cheesecake for dessert!

The hotel offers a free sunset cruise so don't miss that. Even though it was cloudy and we didn't get a colorful sunset, we got to see many buildings along the harbor and learn about their history. There is also a 5 p.m. High Tea right before the cruise that had tasty pastries.

Brunton Boatyard's location is good as it is located within easy walking distance of the adjoining harbor and marketplace as well as some of the many local attractions such as the nearby Catholic Church where explorer Vasco de Gama was originally buried before being moved back to his homeland in Portugal.

Don't miss a visit to the Dhobi Khana laundry where all clothes are washed by hand, dried in the sun, and hand pressed and folded. Some of the workers have been here for more than 50 years! The laundry was originally established in 1720 for washing the Dutch Army's laundry. It was one of the highlights of our cultural tour of the city.

Brunton Boatyard is a hotel in Kochin that is operated by CGH Earth, a brand that swear by their sustainable luxury. Not only that they also ensure that all the guests get a personal and homely feeling during their stay. The staff is very energetic and friendly and they always make sure that the guests staying with them have the best in class luxury. Their restaurant "History" serves cuisine that represents the 36 communities living in Cochin. Our top picks were The Railway Mutton Curry and Jewish fish.
The property also arranges an evening ferry ride that goes around the neighbouring islands and the container yards.
Overall its an experience worth trying and I can assure that CGH Earth will never dissapoint.

It is a lovely and historic property in a prime position. The property is fantastically kept, and the entrance pathway has wonderful portraits with great accompanying notes. The staff are helpful and friendly, although some of the front desk staff are not experienced and cannot answer some basic questions. The highlight is the musicians who perform in the Historical restaurant, and the lowlight is putting up with the ferry's noise- but you get used to it, and it is part of the experience.

Firstly let’s discuss the car ferry noise. It actually wasn’t as bad as you would think. Certainly I would recommend a room as far away as possible namely 109, 209 or 309. We were in 308 and with silicone ear plugs (not the rubbish hotel ones) the ferry noise was kept to a minimum.

Only time it was a problem was when we sat outside of the armoury restaurant for lunch - when it left/arrived we could hardly hear ourselves speak !

Heritage hotel with a great location lovely grounds had a very relaxed feel. Short walk to the Chinese fishing nets and easy to get a tuk tuk for travel around fort kochi

Food in the armoury restaurant and bar was very good would definitely recommend the prawn curry and mushroom, peas and potato curry.

Avoid the terrace grill seafood restaurant. Very expensive by Indian standards. 2800 rupees each for fresh grilled fish we arrived at 730 to be told the mains would take 40 minutes. They were very undercooked when they arrived we had to send them back. Eventually we were eating at 910 1 hour 40 mins later. Manager offered us a free dessert I would have offered us a partial refund as it was expensive so a bit disappointing.

Other than that room 308 was very nice and spacious and the staff were very attentive. Young girl on reception checked in for our flights to the Maldives which was appreciated.

So I would say don’t let the ferry noise put you off from staying here but avoid the terrace grill seafood restaurant.

The rooms are huge, clean, hygienic, has breathtaking views and major props for the sustainability measures that they have taken up.
