This is an all round nice place which is ideally located to explore Fort Kochi. The staff is helpful, the rooms are clean and comfortable and the hotel is a good place to relax and take it easy. Dinner and breakfast are fairly good too. What more could you ask for really? I would definitely stay again if I ever returned to Cochin.
I am an academic with Research Interest in the history of Fort Cochin . Very fortunate to visit the area fairly frequently, about five times each year. Ever since I became aware of Old Light House Bristow Hotel and its owners and management,I have not looked at any other hotels in For Cochin as no one can hold a candle to this gem: historic, reeking of memories of glory days and its unique position by the sea and wonderful staff at the Front Desk and the dining hall. I do not long for european food when I am in India and have discussed and provided excellent local food . The fact that my multiple visits have been without problems shows the extra care the staff puts into all pleasant visitors to the hotel, as I have made some friends among the guests over the course of the year. All of them without exception sing songs of praise for this exceptional find in Cochin or Kerala for that matter. I highly recommend this hotel and special thanks to the drivers and the management. On more than one occasion the manger had come to pick me up at the airport along with the driver. This old world charm and hospitality has long been dead in other parts of the world…
I have no idea why our travel agent booked us in here, it is awful. The place needs some tender loving care as it is very run down, a coat of paint would be a start. The staff are surly and obviously have never heard of customer service let alone been trained in how to give it. The rooms and windows are dirty, the food is inedible andd there was no hot water. We were due to stay for 3 nights but left after one . Enough said.
Old lighthouse expected a more from there but spoiled my day. French fries not at all crispy & pasta presentation was good food is not tasty, I the chef what to concentrate on conti dishes especially for the city of kochi , staff are good but needs a good training
We stayed here for one night. The property is just by the sea, very near to fort Kochi and the Chinese fishing nets is at walkable distance. The property is clean and well maintained. The rooms are spacious and clean.
Great Location - just 5 minutes away from Chinese Fishing nets, & right on the beach. Rooms are good, do ask for a fan if required as all rooms dont have fans. Staff was helpful & guided us well. There is massage center within this property, which is just about average. Breakfast options are limited, overall food quality was good. Overall, a good property, with friendly staff & great location.
We had time to kill in Kochi before our late flight out. Had a bottle of wine in their garden - lovely and quite reasonably priced. Staff were pleasant, when we eventually found them. Outside area was quite scruffy, but had a lovely view over the beach.
We had a very good stay in this hotel and over the 4 days became fonder of the quirks and the things that could have lifted the whole place. The room was spacious and quiet the bathroom and shower were good. The views form the top corridor were great over the ocean and for dolphin spotting. The staff in the restaurant were first class and we enjoyed all the meals and it was clear there were good cooks in the kitchen. The manager Rajesh Rajan helped us with train tickets and checking that all was well, we felt well cared for. The pool was good and we enjoyed our pre breakfast swims. What could have been improved and so easily was the state of the grounds. The front entrance and reception was very good but the area around the pool and bar area overlooking the ocean needed more care. Clean tables and clean chairs, grass cutting, more and better pool chairs, there was not enough. Planting would enhance as would removing dead trees that obscure the view from the dining area. It could all be addressed in a few days.…
We stayed at this hotel on our first night in India before setting off on a tour of Kerala. It is a lovely, relaxing place to stay, the staff are friendly and attentive - I needed to change some money and they organised this for me locally. I arrived very early in the morning and my room wasn’t ready for a few hours so I decided to visit the small spa. Thank you to Josni who provided a fantastic facial. That, added to a drink on the lovely terrace overlooking the sea, meant that my wait didn’t seem too long at all.
From the warm welcome at check-in to the delicious food, cooling sea breeze and friendly, helpful staff, this hotel is one of a kind. It looks out over the tranquil Arabian sea but there is always something to watch - dolphins close enough to shore to see clearly, small fishing vessels, fisherman hauling up their catch, container ships. The hotel is in an interesting early 20th century house with beautiful trees that provide welcome shade and keep the pool pleasantly cool. A very pleasant stay.
