Enjoyed a great 24 hr getaway with an old friend. We're kind of picky and both of us loved it & are marking this as a keeper. Super clean, absolutely delicious breakfast, good value, attentive & switched on host Melissa & her staff, and our lovely private balcony on the Penthouse Cottage where 3 can comfortably sleep, or 2 adults/2 kids. What's not to like!
I only had a short stay at Red's before an early-morning flight but I was happy with my stay. The location is great, just a short walk into the old town. The room was very simple but fit my needs, although I would get air-con for a longer stay as it was very hot and sweaty with just the fan. Still, I was barely going to sleep anyway with such an early departure. A taxi was arranged for my ride to the airport and it all went smoothly. Maryann was very kind and helpful. I would loved to have stayed longer and chatted more with her.
Philip and Maryann of course are nice people, but may be they are spoiled with too good references. When my partner and I arrived after a long trip from Bangalore (we travel through India) we needed some rest and we were counting on rest, given the enthusiastic reviews from Lonely Planet and reviews of people in booking. But our expectations turned into terrible disappointment. First of all it's quite a tiny space, a lot of people in one common area, a very small yard and no place to stay alone. Not for autistic persons at all. Second is that Maryann gave us the room № 3 I guess which is not supposed to be a room at all. There is almost no day light because the two windows abut the wall of the neighboring house. Ok, we though we can stand it like that. We thought we can sleep there and go walking all day long. But we were not able even to sleep. Because there was at least one air conditioner block of someone else's apartment which was constantly working. Because it's rather hot in Kerala. So we understood it only at night trying to fall asleep. We slept but the feeling after such a dream was awful. In the morning, when we told the host about our night vigils, and that this room was not suitable for this reason, no apology was given, of course. Maryann just began to argue with the obvious that there was enough light in the room: "you can turn on the light bulb". It was unpleasant. So be sure, if you want to find smth before you leave the room especially if you have poor eyesight, you should turn on the light in this room 3. And do not count on some good view or better to say any view from the window. I did not like the smell in the toilet as well. This room despite the fact that it is furnished well and clean is unsuitable for relaxation. We left for a cheaper and better room, in better location, where is more space, silent and we have a balcony to relax. May be there is more silent in the other rooms, but I can't be sure. It's better not to rent such rooms. Although hosts of Reds are nice people and can give you some good advices and say nice things.…
Stayed at the red residency for two nights with my partner at the last leg of our kerala trip. Phillip & Maryann were excellent hosts - both very welcoming and friendly. Both spoke excellent english & helped us work out an itinerary for our stay. The room was great - very clean & tidy! Good shower with hot water also! A super tasty breakfast was provided, with fresh fruit!
My wife and I stayed here in September 2019. We were joined by our daughter, son-in-law and grandson. We had a great time. The place is comfortable, clean and very charming. The food is delicious. However, the best thing about this place is the proprietors. Philip and Maryann welcomed us all and made us feel part of their family. They shared their Onam celebrations with us and gave us an insight into Keralan life that we would not have got had we stayed in a hotel. Their advice about where to go and stay in Kerala, and how to get there was so invaluable. We had a great holiday and a lot of this was down to Philip and Maryann. Thank you both
I am sure this place is great but we had a dreadful experience at the end of Jan. I had booked 4 double rooms last August, had several exchanges of emails with Philip and he had details of our arrival times and was sending 2 cars to meet the 2 flights. No one turned up: when we arrived at Reds Residency by taxi, they claimed to have no record of our booking! Philip’s wife was actually quite embarrassed: she gave the first group lunch and found us another Homestay. Philip later blamed it all on a computer problem but it really was not a great way for us to start our holiday in Kerala.
The stay in Reds Residency was awesome! Maryann and Philip where Great hosts who showed a lot of hospitality and provided us with a lot and good informations for the city and everything else we needed. I could stay and hear stories from Maryann whole day! The house its beautiful in a great Location , they provide any amenities you may need, and they have Great Breakfast in a good price. The room was big , very clean and very tidy. Philip and Maryann and their place was the most enjoyable stay we had in India.
Philip and Maryann make sure you are well looked after at their lovely Homestay in Fort Kochi. The breakfast each morning was a delight with Philip making sure we had a new fresh juice and a traditional Kerala breakfast as well as the usual eggs and fruit platter. Maryann was happy to make sure we knew how to get to all the places of interest and was wonderful enough to allow us a shower before our evening flight out. Highly recommend.
For people choosing to explore the fascinating southwest State of Kerala, India, on the Arabian Sea, Fort Cochin (Kochi), is one of the most interesting, beautiful, and historical spots to take in. It’s really helpful to have hosts who know the area well. Maryann and Philip operate the most delightful and comfortable “homestay” location, called “Reds Residency.” Aside from its very reasonable price, and delicious breakfast, both hosts are completely engaged with their guests, helping in any way that’s needed, and identifying specific places to visit. The rooms are spotless, comfortable and roomy, nicely decorated. Both Maryann and Philip are native English speakers and were born and raised in Kerala. They know a lot about the place. I can’t wait to return to Red’s, Kerala, and to again share time with Maryann and Philip. redsresidency@gmail.com…
Stayed 2 nights, the owner Maryann was very helpful suggesting restaurants and places to visit. Excellent breakfast. Lovely big room with balcony and lounge. Ask for Peter the tuk tuk driver and he will show you around his is very reasonable. Strongly recommend this Homestay
