The homestay is at the foot hills of Mullayanagiri in Chikmangalore, the tallest peak in Karnataka, nested in a serene location amidst coffee plantation. It seems like lot of time has been taken to carefully plan each and every thing in detail in the homestay, be it the rooms, the pantry, the common areas, the recreation place. Every small detail in each of these areas will definitely keep you guessing as to how someone could plan this with so much attention to detail. They even have quite a few things that have been very historic, which would take you back down the memory lane if you relate to it. The food is tasty, both veg and Non veg options are available, and food is prepared and served in a hygienic way, and it is very tasty as well. You could also, request your preference if any. The most eye catchy thing in the property is the different kinds of plant collections the owners have maintained, with bonsai, cactus, mini eco systems within pots with fishes lotus plants, etc etc, the list is long, will leave an impression of what could mean to live and coexist in harmony with nature. The staff are very friendly, courteous and helpful in every way. Overall, its a perfect get away for a family with close spots which could be visited within an hours time.

Five of us stayed in Thotadhahalli Home Stay this month and it was a mind blowing experience. The home stay has an olde worlde charm and a welcoming ambience. The owners Pallavi and Prakash take personal care of the guests right down to the finer details of food. The staff is excellent and your needs and wants are met as soon as you express them. Food was local cuisine and was par excellence. The spread was huge and just sampling everything was adequate for our appetites. The last 2 1/2 km of the road leading to the home stay are rough but we did not mind paying that price for the total seclusion from the hustle and bustle of city life. Connectivity is a bit of an issue and there are no TVs in the rooms. So if you are a social media addict, this place may not be for you. But if you need a break from your routine, it is the best place you can go to.
We intend going again and again whenever possible.

So to start new year 2020 at a positive note my husband and I decided for a peaceful vacation near nature and v cudnt have picked a better place than thotadahalli homestay ..
it is located amidst a vast coffee estate so u are surrounded by trees and sound of chirping birds .. no city hustle bustle .. u can freely take a walk around the coffee estate .. the road towards the homestay is off road and is like driving thru a forest and personally I liked the feel of it ..
the property is beautifully made with a heritage type of ambience ..( a special mention to the Numerous bonzai’s planted by owner herself ) rooms are clean especially bathrooms are well made and hygienic ..
Our host prakash and Pallavi were very welcoming and friendly .. they made sure things were in order and all our needs were fulfilled ..
We were informed prior to our stay regarding payment methods and directions therefore no communication gap and things went smoothly ..
Food was good .. malnad cuisine with variety of dishes.. the package covers 3 time meals with 3 time coffe/tea as well as evening snacks .. Mr prakash made sure v ate our hearts full at every meal ..
Indoor games are available and they had arranged bonfire every night v were there ..
as such mulayangiri hills are for scenic beauty .. not much to do or see except natural beauty . Unlike many famous hill stations ,these hills are still unexplored and less populated .. the view points can get crowded however the view of the drive up hill is Wat makes it worthwhile..
If u are a person who enjoys peace and quite and need a break from city , or are a couple looking for romantic get away .. I wud definitely recommend this homestay .. a 2-3 day stay is more than enough for exploring the hills and covering major tourist attractions ..

A tastefully done place! clean & hygienic. Good local food..
Suggestions for the owners!
1. Hospitality: Hospitality could have been much better. When we arrived, we were served cold food. We had also communicated some food concerns before coming. However, the owners seemed quite unconcerned and come across as unwelcoming. They knew very well when we were arriving. Food could have been heated. Cold food served to guests is not done at all! Also, there seems to be a lack of communication by them, which was better the next day though. They should pay attention to what is being communicated by their guests.
2. Food
(a) Snacks were. served at 7:30pm not leaving much time for dinner, as dinner is served at 8:30pm. It would be good to keep snacks earlier in the evening. (b) Also, snacks were repetitive (pakoras and soup). there could have been a change.
3. Help Request
(a) we had requested one of the staff to help was 2 small food containers, as we had carried them on our way and they would smell. The person however refused and we had to clean ourselves. we've stayed in homestay before, but no one has asked us to wash there.
3. Room Hygiene
(a) while we were informed about room not being cleaned during the stay, it would have been good to have it cleaned and sanitised. Especially, during covid time, it is all the more necessary to maintain hygiene.

Response from Pallavi Prakash, Owner at Thotadhahalli Home Stay
Responded 4 Oct 2020
Hello Reema. Thank you for staying with us and sharing the review. 1. First of all, regarding the food being cold. Our meal timing for lunch is till 2:30pm. Even after repeated requests, you turned up only by 3:15pm. 2. Soup and pakodas are served as appetizers before the dinner for you to sit by the bonfire and enjoy your eveninng. Anyways, dinner buffet is on till 10:00pm. 3. Due to COVID-19, we follow few protocols and they all have been messaged at the time of booking. In order to maintain safety of our staff and guests, we ensure to have zero contact with the guests. "During your stay our staff will not do house keeping and they'll not be entering the rooms, so kindly maintain cleanliness" this is the message sent to all our guests at the time of booking. Looking forward to host you again and hope you have a good memorable stay next time. Thank you.

This is easily one of the best homestays we have holidayed at. We were a family of 6 with two kids under the age of 3. They ensured we had a very comfortable stay, went above and beyond to accommodate the dietary requirements of the toddler as well. The homestay is very well maintained, and cleanliness, hygiene norms well adhered to during Covid times. The food is especially fantastic, made with all local ingredients. The property is very aesthetically done up too. We had a wonderful time here and hope to be back!

Far From Madding Crowd
It was an amazing experience during our 3-night stay at Thotadhahalli Homestay near Chikmagalur, Karnataka! It's 14 km away from Chikmagalur; the last two kilometers through a silver wood plantation, having no blacktop road. We booked a cab from Bangalore for the entire trip.
Reaching the Homestay we received a warm welcome from Mrs. M R Pallavi. Though we couldn't reach the place by the scheduled lunchtime, she arranged our lunch accordingly with much care. We felt a homely atmosphere all around.
The cottage near the dining hall allotted to us was unique. Decorated with all wooden crafts and a clean and modern bathroom made us happy instantly. There was a small garden beside the cottage. We enjoyed it a lot, but we needed broader scenic beauty, so we shifted to the 1st floor with a marvellous common balcony. Sitting on the balcony we saw flowers and a series of trees. Sun rays in morning and evening twilight through the silver woods made us recall the poem, To One Who Has Been Long in City Pent, by John Keats!
From the Homestay, we visited nearby Mountains, Lakes, Fountains, and Temples. That too was a thrilling experience.
Exemplary hospitality, cleanliness, food, beautiful people, and the flowery ambiance made our stay very comfortable. Caring owners Mr. Prakash and Mrs. Pallavi along with their expert staff like Shaon, Mahesh, Sudha, and many other diligent boys and girls, were always very particular so we can feel it as our home, and not a hotel. Everyday at Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner, Prakash was always there and pursued us to taste different types of cuisine, be it a North Indian, South Indian, Chinese item, or a local one of beautiful taste. He introduced guests to each other at every opportunity.
In fine,Thotadhahalli Homestay set a rare example of domestic tourism in India.

This is my second time staying here - the last being a decade ago.
And the experience is just as lovely - perhaps even more!
This property has been done by very tastefully and artfully, right from the common areas, the rooms, the bungalow and entire premises. Then there's the sprawling coffee estate where you can walk around for hours. The food is excellent, the rooms are great, there are magazines and board games, and a bonfire in the evening.
The hosts and staff are very kind and gracious - and staying here has been a delightful time, again.
