The Serai Chikmagalur is often described as a tranquil oasis, offering a serene and welcoming atmosphere that enchants guests. Its well-maintained and clean facilities, including play areas and pools, are a hit, especially with families. While opinions on value for money vary, the generous amenities and engaging activities like biking and bird watching generally receive high praise. The luxurious rooms, reportedly spacious and modern, contribute to a comfortable stay, even as some suggest they could benefit from refurbishment. Exceptional service by the attentive staff enhances the experience, and its location—nestled in nature yet convenient—solidifies its appeal.

Our tour company suggested we stayed at The Serai and when I looked here I was not sure what to think... I would not have worried. This is a beautiful property that looks like a Bali resort or even a Thai one. Villas are great (although the bathrooms are not the most practical ones). The grounds are gorgeous. So peaceful and beautiful. And then it is the food. As a foreigner, eating in India can be tricky even in 5* hotels. And when you add that you are a gluten-free guest... well. More so. But the restaurant manager made sure that we had a great time and suggested meals that could be adapted to suit us. The food was great. He also turned down the aircon (not sure why it is freezing inside when outside was not even 24 degrees). If anything is lacking is some more places to eat 'Al Fresco'. Other than that, great hotel, excellent service!

Bored with regular office chores, we spontaneously decided to go on a vacation last weekend and booked for "The Serai" resort in Chikamagalur. We actually sent spend much time in reviewing it and just had booked it through MMT on Friday for check in on Saturday. Bingo! We got the booking confirmed and off we went to this beautiful resort. The Hotel staff contacted us in the morning to confirm our booking and arrival time. We reached the resort at around 1 p.m. and we were welcomed with delicious bellada coffee and coffee made chocolates with dry fruits. The place was well maintained.. well sanitized and the office staff were also wearing masks and they checked our temperature before letting us in, also asked us to sanitize before getting inside. They sanitized all our bags separately and then we were taken around the resort by one of the hotel staff who cleanly explained about the facilities and amenities they have and walked us through to the room and meanwhile our luggage came in their private vehicle called "baggi". The room was extra spacious and it was a jacuzzi villa we had opted for. So, we had a jacuzzi along the room side, a bed outside the room to relax after the jacuzzi bath. The room had a centralized AC with switch to monitor the AC. It had a fan too. Very clean and beautiful. It had an electric kettle and drinking water, Fridge and the best part of this room was the big washroom with separate places for toilet and bathroom and the bath tub. There were all the toiletries provided by them. The hospitality of the staff was commendable and the ambience and the resort in itself was like a dreamland. Beautifully designed and well maintained. The food was good at the breakfast but the rice items were hard or half cooked. So we felt not worth the price. Also if we take the room service they would charge 30% extra which we did not like. Otherwise, as a whole a must visit resort and a beautiful place to stay and relax and enjoy your holiday.

We stayed in this resort for 3 Nights, 4Days and was one of the best stay ever. Property is almost 13 years old and very well maintained , very clean and luxurious.

Staff is courteous and very helpful. We stayed in estate villa with private pool for 3 Nights.

We were welcomed with delicious jaggery coffee and milkshake for my 7 yr old daughter along with delicious home made chocolates. We had all lunch and dinner in the resort and dint have to step out of the resort for anything.
Food is made to order and due to covid situation, they do not have buffet lunch/dinner. Food was extremely delicious .

Breakfast is complimentary along with the stay and again served at the table, there is no buffet, you can choose from the list and order as per the needs. Bakery items like muffins, cupcakes, cut fruits were kept at the table before we arrived. Few things i felt could have been better was to change the breakfast menu and include some local delicacy , breakfast was pretty much the same all days- super soft idly sambhar, vada, masala dosa, omlette, toast, poori bhaji with watermelon juice and milkshake.

There was no preserves/jams/butter kept on table, and when asked for fresh fruit juices, each waiter told different type of juices. Likewise for dinner also, one waiter that took the order was kind enough to say the no of portions served for Naan and asked us to order more if required, but the person who brought the dishes had no clue on the serving portions, when asked, he went blank. These minor things could have been avoided in the restaurant.

Also, noticed that no bottled water kept in the room, instead jugs were filled with water, i was slightly surprised seeing this, considering it to be a 5 star luxurious resort , when asked the reception, they promptly sent the bottled water...was wondering if that should be asked explictly.....barring apart these facts, we thoroughly enjoyed the vacation, Mr Pradeep took us on plantation tour, well explained, bird tour and nature walk for my daughter, he was very knowledgable. Magic show for kids was very entertaining.

Ms Sowparnika from kitchens demonstrated good session of malnad cooking. My daughter attended Junior chef cake decorating class, chef patiently taught her the art of cake decoration. Plenty of acitvities for kids to keep them engaged.

Kitchen staff was kind and courteous too (barring the above minor incidents). Mr Pramod was available all the time ensuring our comfort stay.

Overall, a very pleasant and luxurious experience in Serai. We will definetly recommend to my friends and family and we ourselves will plan to go again.

This is the 3rd time I stayed at The Serai Chickmagalore. Each time it was a different experience. This time Mr. Wilfred F&B Manager made our stay special. In midst of his busy schedule he arranged our meals with great care. We are really impressed by the way he took care and provided us with new varieties and different experiences in a timely manner. Each time the food was excellent. The cooks are awesome, who does their work with great dedication and care. The staffs in the dinning hall and around the premises always were wearing a mask.High level of hygiene is maintained. I am really surprised about the promptness of the staffs who served our food.

The room service, house keeping were also very good.

We had a good relaxation period for 3 days and never realized how the time passed.

Highly recommended the place for a good break with great food.

The Serai Hotel in the coffee plantation near Chickmagalur India is a first class property. It is an excellent location to visit the truly magnificent nearby temples of Bellur and Halebid (assuming you have a car and driver, or your own car).

The room was gorgeous, with its own private pool, a comfortable bed, spacious bathroom and super-fast wi-fi.

The hotel grounds and surrounding plantation are beautiful. This is ecologically sensitive shade coffee, and care seems to be taken to protect the local environment.

We did some good bird watching with a guide from the hotel. This same guide also gave us an explanation of the types of coffee grown on the plantation at the "Coffee Appreciation" experience. He was most knowledgeable, but the coffee event took place in the children's playroom, which was a weird venue. It should be changed to one of the lounge areas or conference room.

The only real problem we had was at the restaurant. There is a copious buffet, with delicious food. But the service was sorely lacking. We had a very hard time getting the attention of a server to get a refill on coffee, or a cup of water, or to find the chef who was supposed to be manning the omelette station. There were plenty of waiters around, but really no meaningful attempt at service. I hope this situation gets addressed. We also arrived for dinner at a few minutes before the appointed start time, and were made to sit in a darkened restaurant for nearly 15 minutes while they were late in getting the buffet on the tables. Not very friendly. Apart from the poor service in the restaurant, the resort was lovely and I would recommend it.

We stayed at the Serai Chikmagalur for 5 days,we had a comfortable and relaxing stay. Our holiday started out with an few glitches in customer experience, upon feedback, the management quickly turned around the service quality making it a great holiday for us!

Highlights of our trip:
1. Food (Chef Negi and team) can whip a delectable meal in no time. Do try out the Malnad Chicken and the Bangali Fish curry.
2. We played a lot of tennis during our stay-The court is well maintained.(Get your own rackets and Balls if you are picky like we are)
3. Dinner under the Baniyan Tree: We celebrated our anniversary under the Baniyan Tree with a full moon. It was surreal and beautiful!( Piyush, Wilfred, Sura and team made our dinner an experience for the books)
4. I was hoping to try out the Spa, but was busy playing Tennis. Will come back again.
5. We felt safe with social distancing maintained by staff and guests. Serai could have sanitiser dispencers at their restaurants and bar.
6. The pool in the Villa is great! We didn't swim as much as it was cold. But kids would have a real fun time.

We had a very peaceful and relaxing stay! I would recommend this place for anyone who is looking to unwind from city life and enjoy good food!

Just got back from an awesome and safe trip to Serai Chikamangalur. The resort is well designed for social distancing so everyone can have fun and still be safe. All independent villas for stay and sanitization is taken seriously. Ample sanitizers around and everyone wears mask- guest or staff. Food is served to table to ensure everyone’s safety and tables sanitized after every use. Lots of guests has small kids along as well. Good food and drinks to keep you company in a serene environment outside city life and the spa was equally refreshing. while you are there at Serai, don’t miss a drive to Mulayanagiri- the highest peak in Karnataka- for some breathtaking imagery. It’s a hour drive but totally worth it.

We visited the Serai Chikmagalur for my son's birthday weekend. We had a great time at this resort, which is located in a sprawling coffee estate just off Chikmagalur town.

The rooms (villas) are well designed but could do with better maintenance. The idea of a private pool in the villa was really welcoming, in these Covid times! However we were slightly disappointed with the maintenance of the pools and the aesthetics of the pool area can definitely be better. Besides, since the pool is outdoor and not temperature controlled (and the depth is 4.5 feet throughout), it is probably not the best place for kids to be playing.

We did face a couple of electrical issues in our villa, with frequent power outages requiring multiple electrician visits, and finally we had to be relocated to a different villa in the middle of the night due to recurrent power outages. This was definitely a setback.

We enjoyed the food in the multi cuisine restaurant, and it was reasonably priced too, especially the local cuisine was really nice! A special thanks to Mr. Wilfred and his team for making my son's birthday celebration really special for all of us! We appreciate the personal interest that he took all through our stay.

The gardens, landscaping and coffee estate were all beautifully maintained and my son had a great time cycling around the property. There is definitely ample space for kids to run around and play.

All in all, this is a great place for a quiet family vacation. A little more attention to the finer details will make it top notch!

Comfortable, well-appointed villa with pool. The bed had a wooden ledge surrounding it with sharp corners which ripped my leg when I entered the room, before we got the lights on. We had to place cushions on the corners for protection. Guests should be warned about this and advised to carry a torch when returning from the restaurant in the dark. The restaurant staff were delightful and the food very good. The grounds were attractively laid out and maintained. There was a big swimming pool and a games room for entertainment. An early morning nature walk round the property was scheduled for 6am but didn't start till about 7am because of the dark. Surely the time of time of daybreak is known and guests do not need to be hanging around waiting so early. The walk was interesting but not much wildlife about. The staff working around the property were smiley and friendly, a good sign. We think that most guests drive themselves because there was inadequate provision for drivers. Hotels should be aware that well-fed and rested drivers are important for the safety of guests and in the interests of the hotel industry. Overall, we had a very positive feel about The Serai.

This is a long due feedback. My wife and I stayed at Serai in early Mar 2020 and we booked the private pool villa for 2 nights. The property is luxurious and is well maintained. We liked the room very much, but we had a problem with Bats and birds soiling the pool. The maintenance staff tried to dismiss the concern but when we brought this up with the Property Manager, he moved us to the adjacent Villa and to understand the problem he stayed in the first villa himself. This demonstrated that he's taking feedback seriously and wants to fix the problem.

Highlight of this stay was the restaurant staff's hospitality. We had all our meals at the restaurant inside the property and they made some great local food recommendations and we were not disappointed. It was my wife's birthday, so they made special table arrangements and also baked a cake late night for her. Unfortunately I don't remember the names of the 2 restaurant staff who made it a memorable stay.

We also utilized the spa for pedicure. The spa staff need more training, they didn't seem to know what they were doing, for example, trimmed nails too short that it started hurting, applying hot wax when it's uncomfortably hot.

We definitely recommend Serai and it's worth the price.
