Ladakh Himalayan Retreat or 'LHR' is a beautiful and well equipped property. The rooms on the upper floors provide a good view of snow clad mountains, provided you have the lung capacity to climb those many stairs. A good enough restaurant with limited but sufficient spread to satisfy the needs. A small garden to soak yourself in the Sun during the day and count stars at night.

The most 5 star-worthy feature of the hotel is the staff. Always helpful Arun Lal Rajput and Pal Singh ji at the reception, always smiling and courteous restaurant staff and always eager and available housekeeping staff. The owner Mr. Sonam Wangdus, who also helped planning the tour and arranged a taxi for us, is the go to man for planning your itinerary.

The hotel also keeps hard plastic refillable bottles in the room and provide mineral water botel only on demand. A wonderful gesture to avoid increasing plastic waste in the eco-sensitive region of ladakh.

Please note that the hotel is slightly away from the market and uphill walk to the market is slightly tough in the rarefied atmosphere. Taxis, though over priced, are available on call and at the market.

Overall it was a comfortable stay for us in the beautifully raw and unpredictably rough terrain of leh.

Thanks a lot team LHR.

We, 4 families went in for a short trip to Ladakh and stayed in this hotel for a week. Approach from Airport is quicker and very near. Rooms are clean and neat. The Dining area is maintained hygienic. The green lounge is looking pleasant with the Snow top icy mountain view. Astonishing ! The weather is healthy.

When we went Pangong & Khardung La pass visits, we asked for a Oxygen Cylinder and the hotel provided it from their stock. They also said it will be charged ONLY IF WE USE IT. That was really appreciable. They are providing as much as support they can. They have a Cloak room facility as well.

They provide a free computer with internet for Web Check-in purposes.

The suggestion for an add-on service would be the Room Heater service & the Hot Water supply. They are already having a room heater, but its being operated on a automatic thermal timer based which is not enough to have a good sleep in nights. When the climate is freezing cool, and the heater goes off for an hour...needless to say that we can't sleep continuously.

Likewise, the hot water supply is also very limited. We have to finish our morning routine and take shower before 8:30-9:00 AM. Later on, you will not get a hot water. They say that the system is working with Solar energy support. But in the morning, we are unable to get hot water when the Sun is high above head. They really need to work on that issue.

As we were having planned visits to several place, we didn't have a complaint on hot water as everything went on with our time schedule. Only after returning from our visits, we faced the hot water issue. So.. not much bothering.

OVERALL, Ladakh Himalayan Retreat is really a welcome place for visitors and can have a assured peace of mind.!

1. Highly well appointed rooms and clean bathrooms. Rooms are airy and bright.
2. Originally, I had a couple of nights of reservation at the hotel. However, when I asked if I can reduce that to 1 night - the front desk was flexible and accommodating.
3. The hotel is located around 2-3 kms away from the mall and one needs to hire a cab unless willing to walk.
4. Great food - right from the sandwiches to the chicken curry.
5. Room service is not available excepting senior citizens. Me, being tired after a long trek, wanted to have my food at the hotel but rules didnt allow it. Hence, this is a area of improvement.

Owner itself is taking responsibility of front desk and doesn't know how to behave. they are least bothered about your checkout even if you have a flight to catch. They expect you wait for 20-30 mins for check-in. Rooms were not clean, used stuff like masks, used tissues, sleepers were kept in the room. Rooms were very small with big zero view. Wifi doesn't work properly, mattresses are horrible and have huge gaps in center for double beds. It's not value for money. Only outside view and hotel lobby are maintained rest all is average only. Worst the owner behavior.

Hotel is good, pleasing building and rooms.
Location is good, with shops, restaurants & cafes available nearby. Driving to the hotel is a little complicated even with maps due to narrow roads around.

Rooms, linen & toilets are clean.
Room has a standing fan and heater. Hot water available all day.

There is no lift/elevator and have to climb stairs each time which is quite tedious in this altitude. Carrying luggage is next to impossible by us but staff will do it.

Free Parking is available on-site, but a little cramped.

Food in restaurant is pretty bland. Morning breakfast spread is good but difficult to choose 1 good dish for taste. Better to eat out in the many nearby cafes & restaurants.
Cleanliness in restaurant not acceptable.

Staff are generally helpful but pretty slow and laidback.

The hotel looks like a 3*, charges 4* but is actually a 2* facility.
For a price less than 5k per night, it would be worth. For 5k+, many other options are available.

We visited the Ladakh Himalayan Retreat in May 2023. Though we had a short stay (2 nights), we have come back with a lot of good memories. The place is very well maintained. Rooms are adequate, clean and well furnished. In fact, the entire hotel is squeaky clean. The restaurant is spacious and the food delicious. Good service. Guests are given their privacy, yet at the same time, staff is always ready to help. Overall, a wonderful experience and a pleasurable stay. Highly recommended

We had a wonderful stay. Excellent facilities and efficient service. The owner Sri Sonam personally supervises the work and we were well looked after. Highly recommended. The hotel arranged an Innova for us for the entire duration of our stay at Ladakh. Even the driver was most courteous and efficient. The rooms were clean, spacious and comfortable. Food quality was good and the service even better.

We visited Ladakh Himalayan Retreat in June 2023 and I must say the most comfortable hotel stay ever. The rooms were spacious clean and running hot water 24/7. The owner Mr Sonam took our booking and organised our entire itinerary for us, even the trips to Nubra and Pangong Tso. I must mention that we reached Leh at midnight and we were warmly welcomed by the staff with steaming hot food and tea, which was a blessing at that moment.
To mention the restaurant, the food was very nice and service very good. All in all a wonderful experience.
Thank you Sonam Sir and the entire staff of Ladakh Himalayan Retreat.
