Dolkhar Leh-Ladakh, India “Designed consciously for a true Ladakhi experience” At Dolkhar, inspired by Ladakh's people, culture, and traditional values, we have built a boutique space that integrates a little piece of Ladakh with the rest of the world while keeping central our values of conscious, sustainable, and contextual travel. Adorned by the very essential rays of bewildered sunlight are the layered walls of Dolkhar's duplex luxury villas with a rabsal (Ladakhi balcony) on top and a private patio on the ground floor. Tsas by Dolkhar is a hyper local, avant grade vegetarian restaurant set in the apple and apricot orchard within the resort. Overlooking the property, surrounded by the great expanse of beautiful mountains is our terrace bar- an exclusive space for our beloved in-house guests. We also offer a range of meditational, transcendental and therapeutic spa rituals that in the spirit of Dolkhar, use indigenous practices rooted in tradition.

Amazing. I can’t say enough about how much we enjoyed our time at Dolkhar. For context, I’ve traveled for leisure in 5 continents, and my stay at Dolkhar was one of the best hotel/guesthouse/resort experiences I’ve ever had.

First: Ishey (I hope I’m spelling her name correctly) was an incredibly professional, thoughtful, and gracious manager/concierge. She was on top of everything we needed (and things we didn’t even know we needed). You can tell Dolkhar is run extremely well because that level of professionalism and courtesy is expressed by all its staff.

Property: what can I say- the villas are nearly flawless. Everything you see in photos are as beautiful or even better in person. Gorgeous, thoughtful architecture that mixes traditional Ladakhi aesthetics with modern minimalism set amongst tall sunflowers and wildflowers. The marriage between form and function is perfectly harmonious. Even during our stay in chilly late October, the villas were warm and cozy. They provided tasty healthy snacks and various teas in the room.

Sometimes comfort is sacrificed for sustainable practices but that was never the case at Dolkhar. They have perfected the balance. I greatly appreciate the focus on sustainability in a town (and world) where these practices are greatly needed.

The food was delicious. Even as a voracious meat-eater back home, I loved the mostly vegan menus for breakfast and dinner. They have an adorable bar upstairs for resort guests with delicious cocktails.

The location is a bit outside of the center of Ley, but we’re talking about a very short relative distance. Ishey arranged taxis/cars for us at our convenience throughout our stay.

While it might cost a bit more than your average accommodation in Ley, you are paying for an amazingly serene experience at a place that practices the environmental conscientiousness that it preaches. We stayed for three nights, but I would love to come back and take my time at Dolkhar the next time I’m in Ladakh.

Thank you to Ishey and the staff!

This is a classy boutique resort with a fantastic kitchen. The cottages (living and study below and bedroom upstairs) are minimalist but done with great attention to detail. I saw great taste in choices right from furnishing to rugs, cups, glasses and that super cool filament lamp on the study table. My only gripe was the lack of wardrobe space, I hate living off my suitcase.

Their kitchen is quite unique with a deliberate investment into experimentation by their young and creative chefs. The tasting menu is not quite in the league of Gaggan or Indian Accent, but I'm betting in 2 to 3 years it will get there. It's a 100% vegetarian menu, that could be a mild put off for some.

Overall, great experience, we wish we had a day or two more to try out all the cool food on their menu.

From the moment you step over the threshold, the ambience of the place takes over, most notably a very calm and friendly welcome. The staff were most helpful in booking and suggesting trips. The mountain hike, Dali lama, pottery trip (amazing) monastery tour, market all with a safe and very reliable driver. Staff also helped with our permit to travel through the region which I was unaware we had to do. They sent our passes to the driver who showed them at the check point as my phone wasn’t working too well! The rooms were excellent, the bed and pillows the perfect antidote to our busy days, the view of the mountains and monastery from our balcony was amazing to wake up to. The shower was brilliant, with a stone non slip floor which I now want at home! But the food, I have to say, I really never expected it to be as good as everyone was saying. It was quite spectacular. I was blown away with the attention to detail and quality of the food and the knowledge of the staff. The chef, Kalpesh, would be happy to pop out and answer any questions of which I had many because I was so fascinated by his processes. He trained in France but has peppered his Ladakh style all over his menu. It really is the sort of restaurant where you can close your eyes and place your finger anywhere and you’d be totally surprised and satisfied in equal measure. I loved my pre breakfast, early morning walks into the market area watching the town wake up, the business owners were never pushy, always friendly and you never felt like you were going to get stung as the people are just so friendly. Julley! From me, Daniel Steggall and my wife Rachel, we want to thank everyone who made our stay about as good as it gets.

My one week at Dolkhar has been nothing less than magical. I am grateful to the team for their exceptional hospitality and for making my stay so lovely from the minute I arrived. The location is ideal when you want to be close to the city yet away from the hustle and bustle to enjoy the peace and quiet. I absolutely love how the property has been developed by Rigzen Lachic with so much attention to details using local artisans and products sourced ethically. Dolkhar feels like a product of love and you can feel that warmth during your stay. If this wasn’t enough, you get to dine at Tsas which is the restaurant on the property and it also happens to be voted as one of the 9 most unique restaurants in India. They use a lot of Ladakhi Ingredients to giyve a local twist to modern cuisine. And the food is absolutely brilliant. They also recently opened their Bar which makes some really amazing cocktails. All in all Dolkhar is a truly Ladakhi experience and one that will be etched in my memory for long.

BEST SPA EXPERIENCE IN LEH AT DOLKHAR

My one-night solo retreat at Dolkhar in Leh was an absolute oasis of tranquility. From the moment I stepped into the Ladakhi-themed room, I felt a sense of warmth and comfort. The staff's attentiveness made the experience even more welcoming, providing assistance with a genuine smile.

Dolkhar's in-house facilities were a highlight of my stay. The inviting bar became my refuge for the evening, offering a cozy atmosphere to unwind. The spa, a haven of relaxation, provided the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

At the suggestion of a friend, Dolkhar was one of the first restaurants that we came to for a late lunch before starting a day of rest and acclimatization.

What started as a light meal quickly turned into this amazing feast of healthy and locally sourced meals served one after another. We could not stop eating.

I did not expect to fine such amazing fine dining here in Leh and I was completely blown away by the quality of the food and the service. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone coming to Leh. In particular, I loved the watermelon salad, the bhaos and the buckwheat tacos.

I would highly recommend staying at the Dolkhar - its a beautiful, intimate property, and the service is spectacular. The team at Dolkhar is extremely warm and planned every last detail of our trip. We were in Ladakh during off season and it was like we had the whole place to ourselves. Special mention to Chandan, Madeleine and Stanzin - the service was outstanding. The restaurant, Tsas is also incredible - vegetarian food but done incredibly well. The day trips they organized for us were stunning, and they were willing to accommodate all our requests. Lastly, the property itself is beautiful, the design aesthetic is absolutely stunning and showcases the arts and crafts of Ladakh. We can't wait to be back. Highly, highly recommend!

A pleasant experience staying at Dholkar. The team is hospitable making sure that our stay was enjoyable. Every single detail at Dholkar is very well thought out - the villas are well designed with tasteful furniture and the amenities are top notch.

Great food and the highlight was eating dinner at Tsas under the starry Leh sky - something to cherish.
