I think it’s fair to say that this was the worst place I stayed at in Ladakh during my two-week tour. It started with my arrival when I was told that the camp had been overbooked and instead of staying at the camp, I was supposed to stay at an extra tent along the road (approx. half a km away from the camp itself, right next to the large public toilet building). Only after insisting quite heavily I was finally provided with a tent at the camp itself. The tent turned out to be quite bad though. Dirty bed linen, no shower but only a bucket of cold water, toilet not functioning, uncomfortable bed, and generally just very run down and not well maintained. On top of everything it started raining in the afternoon which pretty much forced me to stay inside that unwelcoming tent for much longer than I had hoped. Dinner and breakfast were very basic, but the food was surprisingly good. Except for the instant soup for a starter. To sum it up, not a place I would ever consider staying again!

Stayed here for 3 nights as part of a birding trip. The property had 9 or 10 tents and as we had arrived a bit early we got to choose the ones we liked. All of them were similar - had 2 single-beds (which could be moved and made into a double-bed and made the tent more spacious) and a basic, but clean, washroom. The tents were well laid and despite a couple of very windy days (and nights) where I could hear the wind buffeting against the walls of the tent, I did not feel the wind inside and was quite warm and comfortable. The town gets its power from a nearby solar station and power is available usually for a few hours post sun-set (during our stay it was between 7:30 and 11 pm). This worked well enough for us to charge all our camera batteries - the charging points are all in the central restaurant, so ensure you are carrying multi-plug adapters or strip extension chord. Tso Kar has absolutely no telecommunications connectivity apart from one satellite phone in the nearby village, so expect to be completely isolated. There is, however, a dish TV connection in the restaurant and one can catch up on news at dinner. Lunch and dinner are quite simple but well made. They even went out of the way and made us a lunch of thukpa (Tibetan clear soup with noodles and vegetables) momos that tasted excellent. We did not have breakfast at the restaurant any of the days as we would leave quite early around 5:30am but even at that hour they would have hot tea ready before we left and would pack some aloo paranthas for our breakfast. They were warm even after a few hours and our breakfast on the roads were really quite tasty and enjoyable. The camp is located outside the village and in a completely open land, so the views are quite lovely. And if one is lucky to get some clear skies (which we didn't get), then quite a nice location for some long-exposure night-sky photography. If you are looking to stay at Tso Kar, definitely do consider this property.
