Entering the hotel, you will feel like you have entered a different era. And I am not saying that in a good way. Just look at the phone that they have in the toilet. The taps are leaking. You can't even open them sometimes. It leaves you in a dilemma because try too much and the thing will break. Try too less and don't get to use the tap. I chose the latter in case you are wondering. The lady at the reception told me "room accha hai". agar yeh accha room hai toh "ok ok" room kaisa hoga. I don't want to have nightmares so let's not dwell too much on that question. But their restaurant puts even their shoddy reception to shame. My wife called the room service to get the food menu. you call on 82 and they ask you to call 81. You call 81 and they ask you to call 82. We never found the menu nor did we find whose jurisdiction does the task of finding the menu falls in. So we decided to directly head to the restaurant. They only had a buffet with three curries and rice. This is the first time that I saw gheeya ki sabji in a buffet. There was no other food item available. If you want ala carte, you just pick whatever is in the buffet. And there was not much in the buffet. There was literally just one staff member serving everyone. So instead of getting the water from him, I just went to my room, picked up the water bottle, and continued with the dinner. Later some locals told me that this property is government-managed. So that explains everything. You don't want into a SBI branch expecting the treatment of an ICICI branch. No matter how much of a big home loan you are taking.…
I stayed at Centaur hotel in the month of February to my surprise the property was huge with beautiful view of Dal lake from all three sides . The room I stayed had a beautiful view of Dal and mountain on the other side. The property has a old world charm with huge lobby and a beautiful coffee shop . The location is very good and all tourist destinations are nearby . The food and service is great . The staff was very courteous.
We were travelling with our 2 year old daughter in the winters of December AND in the Covid times. So naturally we were worried about our safety, general hygiene of the place we stay in and room heating facilities. Despite the mixed reviews, we decided to give Centaur a try, primarily for the location. We were in for a surprise.. the hotel exceeded our expectations. They REALLY took care of us. The hotel, although old and under-maintained has the old school rustich charm to it It is huge and adorned with beautiful Kashmiri handicrafts. Food is decent too. Staff is very courteous and polite. And about the safety, it is inside the SKICC conference centre which is heavily guarded by the army- be rest assured of staying in one of the safest hotels in Srinagar. We initially stayed a night before moving for Gulmarg & Pahalgam but decided to come back to the same room upon our return to Srinagar. I highly recommend this hotel if you would love to take a stroll around the Dal Lake on a quiet evening; and maybe a nap in the beautiful garden frome where you see the lotuses blooming.…
The location of the hotel is very prime. That's the basic charm of this property. Though the staff was very courteous on telephone, it wasn't professional or prompt when I reached the hotel. They made me wait 20 minutes before attending though there was just one more guest on the counter and there were three people from the hotel staff which were busy doing some paperwork. The condition of the hotel is as good as an abandoned property. POP is falling, paint has faded and fallen down from many places, washbasins, bathtubs, toilet seats etc are broken, rooms are smelly carpets are worn down. Apart from all these, the staff FORGETS to keep the toiletries in the washroom and teabags etc in the room. Restaurant is even worse. Taste of food is better in any roadside dhaba or a small time restaurant as compared to this hotel! Even the staff of restaurant isn't professional or courteous. I sincerely wish that this beautiful and magnificent property(in dilapidated state at present) be taken over by some private party and run as a great hotel!…
The Hotel is far away from the airport. Location is excellent - on the banks of Dal Lake. One can walk into the lawn on the backside to the lake. Rooms are poorly maintained, service very poor. The Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner options are very limited with the choice of item being very limited.
