The experience was amazing staying in Cottage Nigeen. The owner and staff were very helpful in every aspect. The home cooked food was really awesome specially (Chicken curry and Masala Paneer) and it's like treat to have here. We stayed here for 3 nights. It's a lovely, comfortable homestay with all the comforts and reasonable services. You can enjoy your evening in the garden which is managed beautifully. Regarding Location in my opinion is quite ok if you wish to avoid touristy hustle. But actually it really far away from Dal Lake, Residency road, Polo View, Shankra Charya Temple. At night when you want to be back to your cottage, the auto walas will charge you 500 INR for one side which is really huge amount despite of the fact that they should charge approx 200 INR. For auto/Taxi you need to walk at least for 1-2 km walk from the cottage to get the auto/Taxi or else you can book the same in advance to avoid walk. Rest awesome experience within the cottage.

Nigeen is a Sweet Home in a peaceful and nice area. Nigeen lake, University is at 10mins walk from here. The hosts are amazing. A sweet couple done their house with so much of love and elegancy with Kashmiri aesthetics. They have made 2 new rooms on the loft which were amazing. Home cooked food was a treat to have here. We had a sound sleep too. Thanks for your super warm hospitality Team Nigeen. Best wishes ✨

This beautifully done home is a pleasure to stay. Tucked away in a walking distance from Kashmir University and Nigeen Lake my mother and I chose to stay here for three nights. The hosts are excellent people. I will recommend this to anyone who is looking for a peaceful tranquil environment while holidaying... A number or birds visit this property... The food is excellent!

It's a lovely comfortable and authentic homestay but with all the comforts and reasonable service levels. Location is in my opinion quite nice if one wishes to avoid touristy hustle bustle and soak in the joys of living in peace. The decor is tasteful and cute at the same time.

Was looking to stay for more nights, but due to rooms full on most of the my dates, I could stay just for 1 night at The Cottage Nigeen. i.e. 7-8 Apr 22. My stay was with my family, including my child. Location: It's a peaceful location, at just a stone throw away distance from Nigeen lake. Though, the end roads to property is really narrow, being just a single lane. Property: It's a classy property, where the host Shakila ji had tried to put her heart in every single corner of the home and that is clearly visible. Every single corner of this beautiful house is well carpeted, however, thanks to the maintenance they would be taking, it was not smelling like usually it does even in some best of the hotels. In the drawing room, she has a very good collection of books which will fascinate equally beginners to avid readers. Room: My room was Executive room. It was very warm and cozy and sufficient for three of us. Garden: The garden hosts many of the colorful trees/plants such as Judas -tree, etc. Meals: We checked in around 1 PM and on our request, they prepared lunch for us. The Yakhni Paneer and Dal was awesome. At dinner, we had Palak Paneer, that was Ok types but Sevaiya was excellent and a must try. At breakfast, had Bread toast, Poha & Omelette Pizza. While, the poha could be prepared with lesser oil, the tea was really nice. The meals portion was adequate for three of us, and was priced very reasonably. Staff: Staffs, Tahira and Altaf are very warm to the guests and will make your stay comfortable. They are expanding the currently available options and adding couple of rooms more. Thus, some furniture items was being made on top floor, that caused some noise during the day. Considering that this is just a temporary disturbance of 4-5 days and will resolve once new rooms are completed, I will ignore this and will highly recommend this place to stay, in case you prefer to stay at calm, cozy, homely place. Once again, thanks for such a warm stay.

After a lot of thought and cordial conversations We had decided to Stay at Nigeen cottage for 3 Nights & 4 days with my family & friend from 20/3/22 to 22/3/22 . As we were looking for Tranquility & amiable hospitality , this Homestay, not a Hotel, fit into our pocket ( Room Tariffs 3000/--4000/Rs per night without food !!)) having located beside Nigeen lake which is 5/ 10 minutes leisure walk from the cottage. Srinagar University & Local market is nearby about 5 minutes walking distance in the Hazratbal area . We were warmly greeted by Miss Tahira & Salman , the caretakers & Cook , and after smooth check in We were pleased with the Wooden decorations , Cosy carpeted areas & clean and hygienic bathrooms, though the bath fittings are old and need some modifications !! All basic things are provided needed to be in a simple Homestay. There are 2 common area to relax , chat and enjoy leisure or watch Tv . No complimentary welcome drink was provided as we found in our Houseboat Stay which is also a type of Homestay........... Bed was comfortable for 2 adults +1 kid / 2 small kids as we stayed in a Deluxe Room .The green view from the Room no 3 and garden area with a lot of flora and fauna stole our hearts forgetting all other lacking!............... The Owners Mrs Shakila Madam and her husband, who take after the whole property & Booking process too , are very congenial and polite persons with Perfect knowledge on local situations and can guide one perfectly for Tour !!........There was a sense of calmness in the Homestay and the flora and fauna in the garden refreshed our tiredness of Journey!............... The arrival of another Caretaker Mr Reehan on the last day was a surprising climax as he knew better than anyone else in the Homestay how to satisfy guests and won our hearts by amiable behaviour & he re-energized the ambience of Nigeen cottage with smiling hospitality. Food was on the down side as it lacked consistency in taste and flavours .We requested for authentic Kashmiri cuisines which the cook failed to provide, instead provided us tasteless and very pungent Simui as desserts which we returned immediately!!.....Reehan on the last day tried to provide some good touches in food though ! Now : Why I have given 4/5 ?? There was a mess up in Booking of Rooms despite I booked well in advance in the 1st week of January 2022 and got confirmation of Booking 2 Rooms 1 Premium +1 Superior Room ( They have 4 Rooms in total ).As we changed the date later for 1 day we were not provided the 2 Best Rooms despite committed !!... Later we were provided with 1 Superior Room after a lot of good conversations with Mrs Shakila Madam and we were forced to settle in another room of below category!!.....It seemed , after having conversations with another Gujrati young couples, they took 2 different Bookings on the Same Room on same dates perhaps; That's why perhaps they failed to provide 2 same category of Rooms to 2 different Families!!...And as for price of the Rooms: I was provided in January 2022 , 4000/ Rs with discount 3500/ for Premium 2 Rooms ( whatsap chat is showing that) ....but after giving us 1 Premium Room + 1 Deluxe Room they have not changed the tariff ( which should be 3000/ Rs per day , even Mrs Tahira said that too !!) ......We were not provided Extra beds on the 1st , but they Charged fully the Extras ( Rs 800+ 800 for my twins kids ) which was not fair at all ( extra beds were provided on 2nd day though which were of no use to us as kids were well settled on the same bed!!). It was really a mess up which was not expected as we travel to enjoy trip freely with full cooperation from Homestay/ hotels as per Booking!..... Still .....I feel it has the potentials to be the Best Homestay in SRINAGAR one day if they sort out such small issues at the earliest!!... Despite all inconveniences We hope to stay there again and Recommend other Travellers to stay here with more CLARITY in Booking Process!!

Response from Shakila Riyaz, Owner at The Cottage Nigeen
Responded 19 Apr 2022
Dear guest Just a gentle reminder that you were constantly in touch with us over the months and in spite of your demands on our time we kept changing your dates and trying to adjust to your available dates. The beds for your kids were in your room but you did not use the extra beds saying that the kids are used to sleeping with their parent! You have had unhappy experience everywhere ,so fault lies somewhere.Iam sorry that you didn’t like our simple home cooked Kashmiri meals but we had recommended Kashmiri authentic wazwan eateries!Dear guest , I hope next time we will serve you better and just just be cordial with the other fellow guests and take it easy.

We stayed at The Cottage Nigeen in late March. If you are in search of peace, tranquility and want to experience a royal homestay feel in kashmir , this place would be highly recommended. Book the garden view rooms at higher elevation which will also give you a peek at the nageen lake. A common living area and dining room lined with vintage Kashmiri decor greets you Each decor item has a story to tell. The staff is punctual and on their toes to take care of your needs. The owners (Mrs Shakila and her husband ) are the perfect hosts to create sweet memories for your kashmir stay.

One of my life's best decision. To stay with a local family in their home (converted into cottage with just 4-5 rooms) for their guest. Run by a lovely couple, the cottage with its magical garden and stunning orchard with vegetable path was straight out of a fairly tale. The decor was all now dreams of when we think of Kashmir. Lovely walnut, warm carpets, earthly colours intermingled with vibrant splashes of cushions and family photos all around made it a place to remember forever. Has a lovely living room with a dining table where we could sit and eat our meals or carry them up to our rooms. We could not get enough of the garden with its stone seats, cute pathways, small bridge and wide space of green grass, ivy on the cottage walls with towering pine trees surrounding it all. Across the road was the lake with houseboats too. The meals range is wide, served with a smile. Shakeela and her husband who run the place are a couple one wants to be friends for ever....A cottage I hugely recommend.
