The place is very close to Lal Chowk Srinagar, the heart of city. Rooms are good, although the bathrooms needs a little bit of cleaning, but overall it is hygienic. Hotel has a beautiful lawn. But the best part of the hotel is its restaurant. The food in the restaurant is good enough reason to go and stay at the hotel. The caretaker of the hotel- Mr. Charan is very caring. Moreover he is an amazing cook for both vegetarian as well non-vegetarian food. Food was so good that I went to the hotel again.

Hi All,
I Booked this hotel by going through TripAdvisor Rating and i was also short on budget.
I booked this Hotel for 2 days and we were given Room #113.

Prons : Cheap, Good Food
Cons : Not located in tourist Area, not safe to go outside after sunset , very small rooms (Mine was Damn dirty.. see attached Pics).

Since we planned it only to sleep at night it did not bothered us much.. but would not recommend anyone in case you are really tight on your budget.

We planned a family trip to Kashmir and did our bookings with Chitari travels - who are cheaters as they did not provide anything that is expected when you book a holiday! We took flights and reached Kashmir, very excitely but were in for a shock when we reached this hotel, which was in a secluded area and not a single other hotel or decent building around it. The surrounding area was all dilapated buildings and did not remotely give a feel that we were in Kashmir! The 80% hotel rooms of the hotel is occupied by Army with few rooms for civils, we were the only people that were suppose to stay there but seeing the sorry state of rooms and the overall surroundings, we insisted our travel agent - Chitari to provide us a hotel with better facilities. Initially he kept us high and dry in spite of franctic calls from my end - finally when we told him we need another hotel for 4 nights and last 2 nights we would move to a hotel on our expense, that is when he moved us to another hotel - which was again no great but had a decent entrance though no heating or running hot water! Although, we managed to enjoy the overall experience of seeing the beautiful Kashmir but out spirits sure dampened with the hotel that was initially provided to us. So travellers beware of cheater agencies like Chitari travel who claim to be superior but are nothing but frawd and rightfully should be called Cheater Travels.

Response from hotelvikram, Owner at Hotel Vikram
Responded 21 Mar 2012
Thanks for your review. I am sorry if you feel cheated by M/s Chitari Travels. First of all I want to inform you that ours is a budget hotel and we cater only that tourist who may not afford costly hotels. We are situated in the heart of Srinagar city (just 1/2 km from Lal Chowk, the main city center). However being in the city the approach roads are narrow. Moreover this being just the start of tourist season we were in the middle of some serious repairs. I myself was out of station when you visited our place. I feel what Chitari Travels have charged you for our rooms is much more than our tariff. We have many many clients who are regular to our Hotel and we offer our best services to all. It is true that some of our rooms are rented to government department for accommodating CRPF personals. You may feel free to mail any further query at hotelvikram@gmail.com. Once again I feel sorry for what happened and inconvenience is deeply regretted.

Found this through trip advisor and glad to have made reservations here.
This is one of most friendliest hotel with warm hotel staff iv seen. They make quick arrangements for anything you need , sply.alterations in food items being cooked .
One really feels at home with beautiful garden and home cooked meals that is being served.
Car were being arranged by the hotel owner himself with wonderfully made itinerary .
I recommend this place strongly to families/ couples.

Hotel Vikram is located at Mandir Bagh, Gaw Kadal in Srinagar. You have to walk/drive around 100 meters in a street. Not difficult to find. As I arrived there, CRPF guards were at the entry and a big fencing around it. Later on I came to know that 2nd and 3rd floor is occupied by CRPF personnels while ground floor is a hotel. It operates in summer only.
Owner Mr. Vikram is a pleasant personality. His parents are gentle people. I spent in total around three night in split.
Hotel is fine, spacious, good lawn. Rooms are moderately furnished. Hot water is available round the clock.
Restaurant opens at 7 AM only. After that you need to order and it may take half an hour more to get. So there is a scope for improvement.
I can recommend this hotel for a family stay.

Hotel Vikram provides basic facilities at competitive rates, and hence is good for budget travel. We stayed there for two nights, and had a good experience. The hotel has a nice garden, where you can enjoy tea and snacks sitting on the lawns. The room was basic and the bathroom was clean. The food served was very tasty and homely. The hotel owner and staff were courteous and helpful. The owner has rented a couple of floors to security personnel, and hence you'll be find them roaming around in the hotel premises.

It is located slightly away from the main tourist areas, but if you have a cab hired, it shouldn't be a problem.

I traveled to Srinagar in june 2013 for sightseeing and arrived at Hotel Vikram located at Mandir Bagh ,Gaw Kadal, in the very heart of the city. It is a short walking distance of about half km from a big market destination of Lal Chowk and just 2 km from the famous scenic Dal Lake. It has been a very pleasant experience because the ambience is that of having arrived at another home away from your home. Once inside, you are warmly welcomed by energetic, courteous, prompt and efficient staff at the hotel. Having no frills or fuss, it gives you a simple, neat and clean atmosphere which is a true value for money. The rooms are well kept, tidy, simple and lively and have a tariff of INR 1500 per day. The rooms have attached bath and Geysers, Television, telephone etc. Wifi internet connection is available at the hotel. The view from the room into the garden is grand and gives a bird's eye view glimpse of the rose garden having lovely variety of beautiful roses. The lawn is well manicured and lush green with a fair population of chirping birds and house sparrows. A very giant old majestic Chinar tree in the campus is the abode of these numerous birds which happily chirp in chorus every morning and evening as a flock. The dining hall and lounge are large and spacious with a comfortable seating arrangement. The food which is both vegetarian/non vegetarian is freshly prepared as per order and again hygienic, homely and delicious. The premises are well secured by the presence of many vigilant CRPF guards and safety is further strengthened by the security system installed in the premises. There is a big parking space which can accommodate several vehicles of all sizes. Arrangements for local sightseeing or airport pickup/drop by taxi is arranged by the hotel.Trips to destinations outside the city are also organized by the hotel. Just across the road is the former home of renowned actor Sanjay Suri. The Hotel is managed by Mr. Vikram Madan whose family are descendents of Dewan Kedar Nath Madan and his brother Raja Dina Nath Madan of Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s court. Mr. Vikram interacts with the visitors personally and his pleasant rapport transcends all age groups. Everyone leaves the hotel happy and contented with the stay, food, services, rooms, tariff, location and proximity to a big market in the heart of the city.
Bookings are instantly done directly through internet at the site www.hotelvikram.in and confirmation done at telephone numbers 0194-2474050/ 2480700, or mobile number 09419000666. Hotel check in timings is noon. The hotel has received very good rankings in internet sites
