It's a boutique hotel - just a few rooms in a converted colonial era bungalow. The rooms open into common sitting areas to give a sense of being at a private residence. A wide balcony on the first floor. The grounds are immaculately landscaped with beautiful flowers and large trees. It is on the bank of the Nageen Lake.
The room itself was comfortable, fairly large and clean. Despite it being quite close to the main road, the design of the rooms and windows blocked out all sounds of traffic.
The restaurant was really wonderful. Very attentive service, delicious food, breakfast was included.
Just 100 meters away is the Nageen Public Park with the most amazing Chinar trees and lawns for everyone to enjoy.

The hotel situated on the banka=s of nigeen lake has a great location not to far from the main city but not in the midst of it . Easy to finds autos so you dont need a car while in Srinagar.

As mentioned by other reviewers the gardens are outstanding and it is a pleasure to just sit in the gardens as the gardens are a paradise for bird watchers along with the lake view. even in October they had flowers so assuming the flower blooming months would be a feast for the eyes.

Our room was comfortable and while it had old world charm along with modern amenities . It was a spacious room on the ground floor. Loved this place and I felt it was an ideal place to stay while in Srinagar.

This is an excellent and unique place to stay. Beautifully located with superb decor and original antique pieces. Attentive, genuinely nice staff and great food. Highly recommended . Bedrooms are comfortable bordering on lxurious with spotless linen and bathrooms. The garden is specially lovely and has amazing views of Nigeen Lake and Hari Parbat fort.

I fell in love with the place the moment I walked in. The old-world charm mansion, sitting on the banks of the majestic Nigeen lake with beautifully manicured lawns lake looked nothing short of paradise.

Although my friends & I we spent two lovely days here, there’s a lot of scope to provide a better experience.

The construction being old needs to be looked into - the fittings in the washrooms either leaked, or the drain clogged & one of them had a bad stink which never went away. The toiletries like soap & shampoo were never replenished. We had exactly one bottle of body wash & shampoo between the three of us in a room. There were not adequate towels kept handy.

Only one bottle of water per day per person is not sufficient. Good hotels don’t have such inadequate rationing.

One of our rooms was sun-facing and would get very warm. The generator would work only during a certain period during the scheduled power cut. At times, one had to remind the facilities to replenish the fuel in the genset as they were oblivious to the fact that it had not been working for more than 15 min.

The mattresses seem to be very old and sink in the middle. Definitely not good for one’s back. Need to be changed immediately.

Overall, I would say it was a pleasant stay but the value for money didn’t really come though.

My family and I were lucky to have had the opportunity to stay at the cozy hidden sanctuary, Hotel Dar e Salaam, for our final night in Kashmir.

The booking process was easy and convenient via a quick call to Khurram, one of the owners of the hotel. He was kind, prompt, and extremely welcoming. We had last minute travel plan changes which warranted us to return to Srinagar a day earlier than planned, so we were relieved to have found accommodation at our first choice - Dar e Salaam.

The property is well maintained and most inviting with its manicured lawns and floral bounty. There is ample outdoor seating to read and relax, sip on chai or qawah, listen to music, … nap.

The rooms are spacious and super comfortable. The large bathrooms were a real treat, too. The rooms had air conditioning, kettle with in-suite tea/coffee, and the beds were perfect to rest one’s tired body.

The dining room and food options were great. The waitstaff were pleasant and attentive, making it a wonderful dining experience with kids.

We highly recommend Hotel Dar e Salaam for families and groups as well as individuals seeking privacy. We will definitely stay at Hotel Dar e Salaam when we return to Srinagar and seek to stay in a clean, tranquil, easily accessible hotel.

This is a heritage bungalow, converted by the family into a hotel, with a limited number of well appointed rooms, each with ensuite bathrooms and all the facilities of a regular modern hotel.
What Hotel Dar es salaam has MORE, MUCH MORE than any regular hotel, is lush flower filled gardens, relaxed seating under a Chinar tree, the whole Nageen lake at the end of the garden, a shikara waiting to take you to Dal Lake, food to die for - each meal was delicious, well balanced, with accent on Kashmiri cuisine.
Plus, a huge plus for us, because we had our 80yr old mother with us, was the professional, polite, kind, accommodating staff, who pampered her as no staff from a 'modern' hotel would have!
Kudos to the owner Khurram Hussain, for putting together a charming, old worldly, yet professional holiday experience for us.
We, of course, intend to return a few more times to heavenly heavenly Kashmir.

The place is out of a fairytale, unlike the other areas of srinagar it is peaceful, quite, clean and gives you a first hand experience at the daily life's of the locals on the nigeen lake. Views from the room are just breathtaking. The staff is extremely hospitable and goes miles to ensure all your needs are well taken care off... A special mention to Mr Khurram who accommodated us right away even after a change in our travel dates. It has been such a wonderful experience, we would definitely be back with our entire family !

This is one of the worst properties in Srinagar. The rooms are expensive without any reason, the bathrooms are worse than an Oyo. There is no hot water whatsoever that comes in the bathroom, keep the tap on for 10 minutes and still no hot water. How is a person supposed to survive in minus temperature. They don't allow you to heat your food and there is no room service after 10 PM, so basically this is a hostel in other words. The breakfast was below average, they served cold. They do not provide mineral water, it is charged. The housekeeping refused to clean the room after 1PM. And for me I am a regular to Srinagar however I am never coming back here again. The staff is unwelcoming and very rude, it is insulting to have a conversation with them.

Response from Khurram Hussain, General Manager at Hotel Dar-Es-Salam
Responded 1 Jan 2023
The Review Has been written by our esteemed guest that stayed as a group of 4 bedrooms with us a few days ago. We are sorry to say that the guest has painted a grim picture of the Hotel out of Malice and not actual facts. We would like to reiterate that we have a boiler system for Hot water. In case you are the first room in the morning to open the tap at the hotel you might experience a slight delay of about 3-4 minutes , which is also mentioned through a little placard on every bathroom wall. After that there is non stop Hot Water available through the day and you can take as long a shower as you would like to !!! 1. Their group of 4 bedrooms were inconsiderate to every other guest. They were up till 3 -4 am every morning and while why should we as a hotel have a problem in our guests enjoying themselves, we dont appreciate LOUD MUSIC and Shouting and Screaming and a complete disregard for other guests who just kept complaining about them and rightly so. We had a family who had taken another 3 rooms next to the above guest who called us up at 3 am in the morning to complain to say that they cant sleep with all the noise and commotion. My Manager had to go 5 or 6 times in the middle of the night to this group and requested them to control their noise levels. It got to a level that we offered this guest and their group of 4 bedrooms making all this commotion every night , the option to leave on their last night and just so that our other guests dont get disturbed further, offered them a refund for that last night . We I am sorry to say have never experienced such guests at our over 4 decades of being in the hospitality industry. 2. The Hotel gives 1 Litre of Complimentary Bottled Water per day with every room and anything above ordered is chargeable. This as you may well imagine is standard practice at many hotels. They expected all the Mineral water Bottles being ordered with their drinks by them in the evening to be made complimentary. When the same was clarified, they were down right rude with the staff and dismissive of any hotel policies. 3. The 3 rooms that stayed with us had luckily stayed with us for 3 more nights prior to this group's arrival and one of the gentlemen who was the owner of a well renowned Hospitality group of the country, expressed and his words were " Mr Hussain, I understand that you cannot screen people before you accept bookings and its not your fault. These guests had no regard towards us. We would like to reiterate that we have loved our stay barring the disturbance last night. You have a jewel and we look forward to visiting you again". 4. On the 2nd night , this group demanded that they be allowed to carry their alcohol bottles into the garden, to which we reiterated that we dont have a bar license nor do we serve alcohol. We requested that they may consume it in the lounge they had booked as per the excise laws of the country. There was an argument again and the owner was called to complain that we are not a flexible hotel and that we impose too many restrictions on our guests!!! The last straw was when they got food from outside and even though the hotel does not allow food from outside inside the hotel premises, we agreed that as a one time special gesture we would allow it this one time in our effort to not create an unpleasant scene with them. But then they insisted that, they would like this food to be heated by 1-1.30 am at night as they would be drinking before that and if we cannot do that , we should plug in Microwaves in their rooms . 5. The Housekeeping never refused to clean the room post 1 pm as we have been in this trade for decades and understand hospitality well. The gentleman is not mentioning that they keys were taken by the guest themselves and if that is done since we have a lock and key system the receptions needs to open it with a masterkey, for which instructions need to be left by the guest at the reception. We have clearly seen that with these clients our hotel was something that did not match their expectations as they in our opinion wanted a private night club which were were not able to provide to them. We would like to reiterate for the benefit of other clients that we are a Heritage Property and we promote a homelike feel with all modern amenities in place. We are welcoming to all our clients and our accolades and reviews over the last few decades are proof of our commitment to provide an enriching experience and comfort for our clients. We are conscious of the overall holiday motivations of our clients and it is our endeavor to ensure we satisfy these motivations to the best of our abilities. We are delighted to Wish everyone a Very Happy New Year.

hi, there are very few places that one gets really attracted to . n this property is one of them . What with it's fab gardens , awesome location next to nigreen lake &. tasty buffets.
Located right next to nigreen lake , this property waa just a bliss and provided us with all the peace and comfort that one expects after hectic travelling .
As u enter , u r greeted with lush and aptly maintained gardens , greens with more flowers than in the Mughal garden 😉. On entering further inside , one is greeted by the peaceful lake(infact we did our shikara ride too from here only ).
Icing on the cake is the manager cum guide cum the most cooperative person in Srinagar, Mr. Hameed. the guy helped us in getting a local sim (he contacted another very helpful Mr .pervez) . also he guided us to where to eat , shop n relax . Also got us our room way b4 the prescribed check in time .
Though room is small but very intricately done interiors with all the modern amenities likes tea maker , fridge , heater ,etc. I loved the wooden interiors , so different from the brick cement ones we get everywhere! .
bathroom is nice too with a separate bathing cubicle .

Their breakfast buffet on both the days of my stay waa exquisite and neatly spread out . Lovely peaceful sitting area , where one can open up the windows n njoy the meals with cool breeze gushing in !
Enough spots for taking pics with your loved ones . we even sat on their garden at 12 in the nite n had a great time .

Cons: Quite far from the main dal lake area .
Not good eating spots around for the vegetarians .
Room service is a slow since 4-5 guys serve both as porters & waiters .

Do enjoy shikara ride till dal lake early morning . contact Farooq thru Mr Hameed .(@1500/ 2 pax).

Our trip to Kashmir was quite enjoyable mainly due to the amazing stay and experience at Dar-Es-Salam.
This property is all about location, location and location. It’s bang on Nigeen Lake, with an amazing view. The property is very well maintained and has a beautiful garden overseeing the lake. The inside of the property is also very aesthetically done with a lot of heritage artifacts. And makes the stay very royal and cozy at the same time.

The food and the buffet spread is standard and not lavish like a 5 star, which is ok by us as the food was quite good and hygienic restaurant at our service.

Staff is very courteous and very accommodating. They are always checking on your stay and trying to please the customers to ensure that their stay is comfortable.

Compared to other hotels. This one was value for money. Do not expect amenities like pool, games room etc like a 5 star.

Few things they can improve upon -
1. We were made to change 3 rooms in 4 days. I understand that they were completely booked and hence this was done. The staff ensured that the transfer was hassle free. But it would be great if this can be avoided.
2. Showers in the rooms of our 1st 2 days were not great and the rooms were also small. However the rooms inside the main property are great with large sized rooms and bathrooms.

I would gladly recommend this hotel for family stay as it’s worth every penny you spend!

It's in other end of the airport . But from main part of city it's only 3 km . The most beautiful advantage is , shikara ride starts from lawns of your hotel , and shikara ride is far better from ride in dal lake
