The origin of ALIF LAILA HOUSEBOATS date back to 1933 when the enterprising and intrepid Mr. M.S.SIAH, succeeded in creating some of the first ever fleet of houseboats which are so synonymous with Kashmir today. With little resources but using brains and brawn and subsequently going through the mill, he succeeded in establishing a name in the travel circles and created a fleet of deluxe houseboats, attracting wide recognition. Even Mrs. Indra Gandhi paid a visit and was impressed. To keep in tune with the march of times, great guts, sharp intellect and keen perception, timely innovations, and additions and alterations were made to face with the construction of the Most Fabulous and Fantastic Houseboat his lifelong dream come true.

Very nice houseboat. You'd be transferred to the houseboat from Ghat No. 9 on Shikara for free. The houseboat is huge and has 3 rooms and dining and hall! There are many antiques and gives you a heritage feel. Was very comfortable stay!

Jutt out like hell as soon as you can. Highly Unsecure, for eating food you'll have to venture out.. I fail to understand why would anyone visit Kashmere?? We have a lot of places in himachal, uttarakhand. Kashmere is one lousy and dangerously volatile place. Go there on your own risk.

It was very hot weather and the room was even hotter than outside. There was no airconditioning. In the afternoon, the harsh sun would shine directly on the bed if you leave the curtains open and if you keep them closed, you cutout the cool breeze. Bath fittings were not working properly. Water pressure was not enough to take a shower. In the name of bathing accessories, there was only a soap. Not even shampoo, showergel comb etc. Very substandard facilities for a room of rent 6 thousand a night.

The houseboat have a royal feeling to us. We stayed there for two nights. The Shikaras from Ghat number 9 of the Dal Lake take you and your luggage for free to the houseboat. The staff was very courteous and prepared delicacies as demanded by us. There was a local person who came at the houseboat to sell us shawls and stoles and other Kashmiri stuff which were reasonably priced. As you enter the houseboat, there is a drawing room then a dining room and then the rooms start. The interiors were fantabulously doneup, however the exterior was disappointing. There were one or two mice in the houseboat, which were scarry. Overall a nice value for money experience.

Very well built 3 rooms, dining and sitting room in this houseboat at dal lake. Personalised service, though need to be improved. Health, hygiene and cleanliness need to be taken care of. Location wise 5 minutes sikara ride from point no. 9. What makes it different is a classic and royal interior. Excellently designed walnut wood work all over the interiors. Concept is of homestay on the famous kashmir dal lake. Home made food tastes good. You can have good kashmiri handicrafts at great bargains at houseboat from local villagers. An one hour sikara ride in Dal will be memorable. Worth staying atleast 2 nights! Recommended for middle and upper middle class domestic customers. A touch up on exterior has become neccessary.
