The Shelter Group of Houseboats is only houseboats in valley knows how important the sense of security and safety is to all its guests. Hence, a special effort is made at all our houseboats to ensure that guest security and the houseboats security takes precedence over any other objective.The Lal Mandi Road is security patrolled by security guards and all emergency plans well in place. The houseboats is located in high security zone and shares the VIP road and political residence on another side of the shore, both well guarded by BSF.

After much R&D I choose to stay at Shelter Group of Houseboats, coz it's located at Zehlum River where the water is not stagnated and flowing unlike other lakes, so no tension of mosquitos. Moreover the place is very quite and peaceful. Vendors don't disturb here. To my surprise, my decision was Perfect! Shri Aijaz Bhai and the caretaker at houseboats were very helpful. They gave us valuable tips about sightseeing. The treatment was very homely and warm, which we cannot expect from any other hotel destination. Very clean like home. Food was also homely and on time, with prior permission so that we can enjoy hot & sizzling food. I extended the stay here just because of the kind service. You can blindly rely on them. There are lots of houseboats and you will confuse but Shelter Group is outstanding!!!

Experience of stay at houseboat on Jhelum River with shelter group of Houseboats was definitely great & different as compared to staying at hotel. We were a group of 17 persons including babies young & old age people (variety of expectations), all were fulfilled satisfactorily by the most cooperative staff & owner .I would like to quote one incident; one of our babies was in need of warm milk at 03:30AM, same was provided immediately by the staff. No plate system for break fast, lunch or dinner (more than sufficient, good quality food). The owner had arranged our trip from Jammu to Srinagar & back with Vehicle & 7 days stay at very affordable rates + proper, daily guidance of tips & traps for the tour in Kashmir. Hospitality & cleanliness was very good. Enjoyed stay & would like to re-visit same in future.

We had been on a family trip (Myself, Wife, 2.4 Yrs old Son, Dad, Mom & Brother) to Kashmir from 9th Aug - 17 Aug'13. It was really memorable, safe and refreshing trip for the whole family. We visited Gulmarg, Pahalgham, Sonmarg, Srinagar, Yousmarg covering most the wonderful and breathtaking places in Kashmir. Even though visit to Vaishnodevi was part of our itinerary we could not make it due to week long of curfew in Jammu. The Shelter Group of Houseboats trip coordinator Mr.Aijaz has been really co-operative right from the time of itinerary planning till the last day of our trip. Quote was really reasonable and itinerary was well planned and organized. As our Vaishnodevi trip got cancelled Mr.Ajaiz accommodated and planned very well to restructure the trip without any hassle. Innova Car provided for the trip was well conditioned and neat with a very cooperative driver and good time sense. Staff in the houseboat were very friendly and gave us the feel of home. I would strongly recommend travelers to visit Kashmir (Heaven on Earth) atleast once which is really safe and The Shelter Group of Houseboats team has good hospitality and will add cream on your cake.
I want to visit Kashmir again and again. Will surely plan for my next trip very soon and this time again with The Shelter group of houseboats. If anybody needs more info please feel to reach me on sujith.barve@gmail.com

We were 2 couples with kids. Booked the place due to online reviews.
First & foremost the location is not on Dal lake. It is 15mins away from Dal lake and looks more like a canal which offers no views. We visited several other house boats during our stay & I would like to recommend a stay on the Nageen lake for their splendid views and even the quality of houseboats are better.
The entire houseboat lacks lighting which makes everything too dark. The food was also not up to the mark.
What we did like was the experience of sharing the houseboat with the owners and sitting with them for tea or sharing a casual conversation.
So stay in Houseboat only for the different experience, but I would suggest booking some other houseboat, not Shelter.

Frist time for us in Kashmir. I have total members in the group which is a small group but The Shelter Group still treat us very well. We asked The Shelter Group for setting up a trip for 5 days 4 nights which in cluding all meals and trasportation. Room is big enough for 3 persons in one room. Very cold for us in December in Srinagar but we can ask heater for whole night also hot water is available all the time.

Me and all my 16 family members visited Srinagar this month. We had stayed with Shelter Houseboats for 5 days. The stay was very comfortable and cozy with excellent service provided. The breakfast and dinner was like homemade and v didnt missed our home food in those 5 days. I would like to thank all the members of shelter group for making us feel at home during our visit.

It a great time in srinagar this family very nice.I enjoy and think about this week. People I have been a great experience to travel with their families. And to travel in a beautiful tourist attraction in Kashmir. The house has a good capability of the owner of the Att. Customer care at the spec.Rooms and various The boat house is very clean and worth the stay. Program to provide money to the owner and the service very good. In April 2012, I was planning to return to the ship home again. With my family. And I hope that everyone in the family will be a great experience like I am.

We were 4 girls from mumbai we had our 5 night stay in Shelter Group of Houseboats it was very clean and very good services and food. we felt we were at home as the people were very good and cooperative. this family helped us having our first great india experience! Good food, and the trips they offer are just nowhere else to be found! The boat and rooms are fine, one of the better houseboats in srinagar for sure :) Will come back in the future

We traveled in July and so the weather was hot or not cold. I hope the heating facility will be adequate in house boats. No idea about sharing taxis as our package was including transport. Shelter group if houseboats is one of the best hotel in srinagar. You can contact with aizaz bhai for booking. You can find his number easly from shelter group website.

Yes dear, you can go kashmir anytime. I was in kashmir feb 1st week and my trip becamre memorable. Shelter group of houseboad members will helo you in every moment.specially Aijaz bhai .
