Hotel is very near to Dal Lake and local market and is at perfect location.
Staff is very cozy and ready to assist you at any time. Manager Mr. Naseer Ahmed is really a gentleman and is very very helpful.
Food quality is the thing that disappointed us. We choose MAP plan but after 1 day we started to eat outside restaurants.
Some basic amenities like complimentary water bottle and Tea Coffee maker should be added.
The hotel is neat clean spacious rooms and most importantly great view of green hills and a huge lawn to relax. The staff was polite courteous and food was good too.
I would recommend this hotel to everyone who wants to stay near Dal Lake in Srinagar.
Mr. Naseer Dar, Manager of Brown Palace, was particularly helpful and ensured we had a pleasant stay. Looking forward to staying here again on our next visit.

Riyaj bhai serve us delicious dishes.

Over all a good budget hotel to stay, got winter discounts.
Few suggestions
1 electric blower was not effective as par large room
2 require more elecric points to recharge your electronic gadjets
I LOCATION
10 minutes' walk from Dal Gate, 20 seconds' walk from Dal Lake. There are restaurants and cafes near by. So the location is convenient. You go through an alley from the Boulvard to reach the hotel. This means no view of Dal Lake, but being free from the noise of the street. There is a nice view of the garden and the green hill.
II ROOM
Spacious and comfortable. No fridge, no bathtub. They told me that they will put a refrigerator in some rooms.I stayed one night in Double Deluxe Room ,then moved to Super Deluxe Room. Both are comfortable and with a garden view.
III BREAKFAST
Quite OK. Fixed menu. Good service. I ate lunch and dinner outside. There are so many restaurants all over Srinagar.
IV SERVICE and MANAGEMENT
This hotel provides distiguished service. One of the owners, Mr Imtiyaz is very service-minded and highly professional. The receptionists, house-keeping staff, restaurant staff are all well- trained and helpfu..
V GARDEN
The hotel has a well-maintained ,spacious garden facing a green hill. It is a perfect place to drink tea and relax, observing wild birds, some of which are of rare spieces.
VI ADDITIONAL OBSERVATIONS
1. They use bolt locking system(Maybe a traditional Indian way?). This means you can be locked up from outside. One evening my room was locked up by a child or a chidish adult(?). So I had to call the reception for help.
Mr. Imtiyaz told me that they are changing to a modern system shortly.
2. In this hotel I enjoy the luxuary of the space--space of the room, space of the garden. But the main reason I recommend this hotel is their excellent management and service, thanks to Mr. Imtiyaz and his team!
The Hotel is well located, abt 150 meters from the Boulevard Rd. on Dal Lake. The Hotel is spread out in 3 blocks(A,B&C) with a large garden in front. Our suite was in B block, 2 rooms interconnected with a large bathroom. The rooms have a wooden finish that is very elegant and comfy. Block A has the common dining hall, the staff is polite and serves you the best of Kashmiri delicacies for lunch and dinner.
On the night of 6th Sep, when the hotel was informed that Dal lake water will begin to rise, is when we saw the Khanyari family and hotel staff move to disaster management mode. 2 lil dams were created to stop the water that was flowing in from the Boulevard Rd. Nearly the whole Kitchen in A Block’s ground floor was moved to the first floor along with all food supplies and drinking water. All guests were informed of the situation and briefed on rationing of water from overhead tanks, drinking water and food. We were reassured that we have nothing to worry as the hotel is capable to withstand a flood crisis.
In the days that followed the flood situation only got worse, Water from the Dal Lake rose to 8 to 9 feet. The guests in A block helped in cooking all three meals, even though the menu was limited and rationed we were fortunate to have hot meals every day. As the kitchen was in a block and food was to be distributed in B and C block, The Khanyaris built a raft using wooden planks from beds, and tied them with bed sheets. They themselves maneuvered the raft between each tower supplying food, drinking water and juices to all guests. There was no communication from the outside world until a family friend of the Khanyaris, Bhashir Bhai came in his shikara and helped out ferrying food supplies, water and juices between each block. As there was no electricity, The khanyaris managed to arrange a wire that was linked to a neighbor’s house who had a genset, and so we had an extension cord giving light and charging phones for 5 hrs every evening. On the 11th when overhead water tanks ran dry…. The Khanyari brothers along with bashir bhai ferried water in buckets and drums to each block.
All this while the Khanyari’s had no contact or news on the safety of their own family and relatives who were in worse affected areas of Srinagar since 7th Sep, and yet their first priority was to keep the 50-55 guests safe in their hotel. They went out of their way to keep us safe. I have no words to describe how thankful I am to the Khanyari family and their staff for keeping us safe and getting us to safe ground.
The Hotel Brown Palace is now a Home away from Home.
"Suite rooms are beautiful and very affordable. Dunno about others though because we stood at suite."Read full review
