We were on a seven days trip to kashmir in Diwali holidays...I was sure of my preferences in every location....I booked Welcomeheritage's Gurkha houseboat but like unprofessionals they cancelled our bookings in last hour as they got bookings from foreign delegates.....Anyways my tour operator suggested to book Meena group of houseboats, though I was reluctant but on their confirmation I agreed....The houseboat has the best location in Dal lake, situated near Nehru Park with view of Shankracharya tample from deck of Houseboat....Its well maintained and manager is avalable all the time for any need.... Heating system is ok....Worth staying.
We stayed there for one night and enjoyed the hospitality, good food etc. It's a beautiful houseboat offering comfortable stay, decent bathrooms etc. But the location is bad. The houseboat is in an isolated place, faces the opposite side of the peripheral road, and is surrounded with filthy water. During the Shikara ride, we discovered lots of front-facing houseboats in the cleaner part of Dal Lak eoverlooking the city, the fort, the Lalit Hotel etc, with the backdrop of mountains. We really wished that we had stayed in one of those. So it's most important to select a houseboat with the right location in terms of surrounding, view etc.
