Absolutely fantastic service. Really clean and pleasant ambiance. Staff right from housekeeping to the kitchen were very courteous. The maharaja suite that we stayed is absolute worth the money paid…vow facilities like the open view and the bath tub made the stay even more satisfying.

We ended our Kashmir trip with a stay on Meena houseboat on the Dal Lake. This truly was a luxurious experience. The houseboat, we were told, was atleast 70 years old and was run by the same family. It had a very elegant and royal touch to it. The interiors gave a feel of antiquity with furniture and decor resembling the touch of royalty. They are artifacts dating many decades and it was Surreal to see those. The rooms were spacious and cozy. A word of caution, during winters it gets extremely cold due to being on the Dal lake. So prepare accordingly. But the staff took steps to keep guests warm including giving us room heaters, bed warmers, and an in-house bukhara. If one has to experience houseboat on Dal Lake, I would definitely recommend Meena.

The houseboat is very beautiful and rooms are decorated with traditional Kashmiri wood work furniture. We spent the evening on the deck having some tea and pakodas while watching shikaras glide around the serene lake. The staff polite and helpful. We had dinner in the restaurant of the Houseboat, the food was simple yet tastful and service was prompt. Breakfast was functional and everything was fresh with enough options to fuel our day.

Warning: Like every Houseboat, this one too has many rooms - 4 cheap side rooms with no view and very less embellishments, 1 suite room (not really a suite but only a larger room with some better furniture) with no great view, which costs you a bomb; and a terrace king suite with a grand view of the Dal Lake, which costs you a nuclear bomb. So choose wisely. Pardon the choice of words, but Kashmir is thoroughly safe and a great place to enjoy for tourists. Location: The houseboat is not located in the best of locales. Very close to the ghat / road. No great view to see and a bit noisy because of its closeness to the road. Hospitality: Rude caretaker Mr. Hasan. The owner should take note that Mr. Hasan takes tourists for granted. The only place in J&K, I found obnoxious behaviour by the host. Kashmir and Ladakh is otherwise full of extremely warm and hospitable hosts. Mr. Hasan is a rotten apple. The Houseboat: The pictures shown by the owners are not entirely correct as the houseboat screams for maintenance. Half the lights and none of the door latches work. The bathroom has no curtains and has direct view from the restaurant area, very disconcerting with no privacy. Then there's the elegant, wood panelled dining room with three large dining tables and chandeliers. But they seem to be for show only. The host refused to serve us our meals there and rudely ordered us to partake of the food from a pathetic room outside the houseboat that he called a 'restaurant' which had a buffet. Finally after haggling and some very rude behaviour, we must say we did get served in the royal dining room inside the houseboat. A dream come true but after much heartburn for getting it. Finally some words of encouragement, if you survive the host's behaviour, as we did, you'll thoroughly enjoy the stay, as all said and done, broken latches, poor maintenance and anything else can't take away the beautiful experience of a houseboat and the peaceful Dal... It takes away all the negativity and drowns you into its serene bosom.

The houseboat is in need of refurbishing. The reception/common hall area can do with a facelift. As probably is the case with most houseboat rooms, the view from the room is of stagnant water with tourist flotsam. The wifi is weak and erratic. The separate dining room for buffet breakfast and dinner serves basic but tasty enjoyable food. An unique experience, no doubt, but but if youre expecting the experience of a starred hotel, this is different.

My entire 5 days trip was organised by Tamarind Global Nadeem Ji and his team. Who looked after me from the day of arrival where I was personally picked up by him with a warm welcome and was introduced to my personal Chaffuer Mubashir Hussain Ji who saw to it I was looked after very well and my needs were taken care of from sightseeing to shopping to knowing the culture, history of kashmir.
The Houseboat ,by Meena Group situated amidst the beauty of nature and enjoys breathtaking views of the peaks of the Pir Panjal mountains was where my accommodation for 5 days was reserved.
Once again the most beautiful houseboat with five star service.. Coming from A Royal Family myself was taken care with utmost care and was given a brilliant room on top of the houseboat. The houseboat is very beautiful and rooms are decorated with traditional Kashmiri wood work furniture.
The staff at the houseboat especially kaka and the kitchen team were excellent, the food was out of the world delicious kashmiri cuisine and one afternoon I organised a day in luncheon with my friends I invited over to join me and everyone went out of their way to look after us and the food was simple vegetarian home cooked even though they serve delicious non veg food. Food quality was very very good, House is neat, clean and very well maintained.
It's was an afternoon to remember...
Kaka also organised a beautiful shikara trip for me to the floating market and was brilliant for my shopping experience..
Nadeem ji had also organised a beautiful day out for me on the day of my birthday to gulmarg.. Where again Mubashir Hussain ji was so so sweet to come and drive me down to gulmarg and arranged wasim a very knowledgeable guide for me to take me around gulmarg.. Where I visited the LOC, Strawberry Valley, Maharaj Hari Singh Palace which happens to be my very dear friends grandfather's palace.. Wasim ji was such a nice person had a brilliant birthday to remember..
HouseBoats is a place that you must visit once in your life. And should come and stay at Meena Mahal House Boats, I love this place. The people of kashmir are so hospitable and so kind hearted. You all will love it.
You will go with a mindset to stay and come back with emotions and Love from the Team.

Have been staying here since 2013 and they have kept on upgrading and refurbishing to match the ever changing taste of client.. The hospitality staff is courteous & kind... The 180° view of the Dal lake & mountain slopes is a treat to every visitors.. highly recommended atleast 1 night stay when in Srinagar.

My stay on the houseboat in Kashmir was an absolutely magical experience. The hotel is very clean, comfortable and the rooms are elegantly decorated. The staffs are very friendly, kind, hospitality, professional and excellent service. Food and drinks are delish, hygine, good quality and various. Just the WiFi signal in the rooms is unstable and not strong.
