The hotel is lovely with a beautiful garden, lovely rooms and great food. We kept extending our holiday, and the staff was very helpful and friendly. The location is excellent--close to the heart of Manali but a little away from the crowds. They have live music every night from 7 to 10 and a DJ from 10 onwards, which is a bit annoying if you want to have conversations over dinner. So we tended to avoid eating at the cafe in the evening.
The Johnson Hotel is a nice property very near to the mall and offers excellent value for money. The positives are: - Its central location, yet the feeling that you are far away from the crowd. - Awesome restaurant which is frequented by hotel guests and several tourists. Their pizzas, steaks are English breakfast spreads are top notch. - Vast lawn - Excellent rooms with clean bathrooms - Thorough professional service - Our interactions with the very friendly manager were reassuring and she went out of the way to help us with whatever we asked for. She even escorted my mother from the room to the car the day we were leaving. Couple of points where the hotel needs to be take care of: - Sleep on Saturday can be a nightmare as we learnt the hard way. A DJ played through the night (almost 3 AM) and with no sound insulation available in the rooms we couldn’t sleep. This needs to change, if we visit them next the next time. - The restaurant offers only European food. So, in case you are looking for Indian food, this isn’t the place.…
We LOVED Johnson’s Hotel (did not love Johnson Lodge next door). Clean, cute, warm rooms with excellent service. The restaurant is AMAZING. We tried a few other places but kept coming back to Johnson’s Hotel restaurant because the food was seriously delicious AND the service was attentive, prompt, and friendly. If I come back to Manali, this is the only place I will stay.
Having stayed at many places/ hotel, two things which can make or break a stay is staff culture and honesty while booking. The Staff behavior was very cold towards us from day-1. It was as if they were doing us favour by allowing us to stay in their premium property. While booking , the double deluxe room had a outdoor balcony, actually the room didn't have outdoor seating as depicted in photos - Dishonesty. WiFi and other amenities were requested for and not shared up front. The adjacent "Johnson Lodge" had better menu and staff was more welcoming and lively! My choice next time. Plus: Location was close to Old Manali & Nature's Park, Parking facility, clean premises and hotel Infrastructure
In the past I have used Johnson’s Hotel for a 1night pit stop on the way to other destinations. This time I got caught in the terrible floods, landslides, road wash always and the pass being cut off because of snow. Seema and her staff were warm and accommodating and always there to help with good advice and making the effort to calm nerves. The Johnson Hotel is super comfortable, very clean and good value for money. The restaurant food is delicious, freshly cooked with polite staff who are able to make suggestions. All in all a definite re-stay option .....even if you aren’t stranded in Manali because of weather conditions.
We ended up here after experiencing rough weather on the Rohtang Pass (cycling). Having a ground floor room is always a bonus whenever you're doing a self-supported bike tour. Price was reasonable. Staff were quite accommodating. Food selection was quite varied and quality was great. Short walk to shopping (the Mall). Manager (Seemer) was very helpful.
Myself and my boyfriend stayed here for 3 nights in total. It has a great bed which made the stay worth it (some mattresses in India are too thin but these were great). We were a bit disappointed because when we booked the room, it said we would have an upstairs room with a balcony, when we checked in however we were given a room downstairs. It had a terrace outside but was shared between the rooms downstairs. When we asked about the room we had booked, we were told all the upstairs rooms were full and we weren't offered a discount. Wi-Fi was also non existent in the room. It was a bit over priced for what you get. On a positive note, we ordered room service a few times and the staff were really nice and it does have a beautiful garden to relax in.
Whilst the property is beautiful and the breakfast is tasty, this place falters on its interpersonal skills on a management and staff level. Simple services such as room cleaning are neglected and staff have to be reminded regarding this. Staff in the restaurant aren't overly friendly but this also depends on who serves you on the day/night. Within management levels there was one pleasant guy we spoke to but he doesn't seem to be the head of management which is unfortunate as he possessed good interpersonal skills.
We just went this place for lunch.. Drinks.. LIT was good Blue berry mojito was ok.. Beer was served chilled as it should be... Food... Salad were just ok.. Chicken salad was not good... loaded with bread very less chicken.. Main course was also just ok... Restaurant plays good music.. good interiors SERVICE VERY SLOW..NO ONE WILL COME.. We stayed in this hotel from 23 to 27 Dec, 2017. The room was decent, spacious, with a life size window view of mountain and garden. The restaurant served good food. They had a special serving of a local fish (forgot its name as I write this review after 6 months). They Children enjoyed the stay there. The location, to me, looked like a neutral place to go uphill and for shopping or to the public park or nearby sightseeing spots.
