Both locations have uninterrupted views of the snow capped mountains and deodar forests. Retreat Cottages are the perfect place to escape the pressures of modern life, giving you peace and privacy for a wonderful holiday experience. Away from the disturbance of traffic and noise, one gets a complete sense of privacy yet with all the modern amenities. Our cottages have been built with a Swiss style architecture, aesthetically designed to blend with nature using a lot of local stone and pine wood to give you a complete Himalayan touch. Extensive woodwork for the interiors, gives them a warm and cozy feel.

Had a fabulous stay at Retreat cottages, Aleo, Manali. Sincere thanks to Sahil, caretaker and Atish himself, the owner of the property.

The cottages are aesthetically beautiful having traditional Himachali architecture in backdrop of wooden and concrete structure. Every cottage has a private lawn that leads you to forest outlined by ancient cedar trees. The 3BHK cottage is a duplex with an Attic. The wooden work in the house is such a delight to see and makes you feel at home in mountains. The cottage is well maintained with cleanliness as its hallmark. All rooms have a fireplace and radiators that keeps the rooms cozy even when its freezing cold outside. They give one crate of wood as complimentary which is usually sufficient for a day.

They have an in-house kitchen that serves home cooked food. The menu items are limited but whatever is there is best. We really liked the Aalo Puri in breakfast and Dal Sabzi in dinner. First dinner was not very pleased to our taste buds being little spicy, but after the feedback every other meal was delicious. There is a fully furnished kitchen with modern amenities and plenty of cookware if you are in mood to cook yourself.

Also to mention, Mr Atish runs a restaurant in Mall Road that delivers food to the cottage. So, the food options were great. I will strongly recommend a visit to the his restaurant "Corner House" whenever in Manali. We tried Masala Trout fish, Pizzas, Burgers, Cappuccino and they were AMAZING.

Not to forget, Atish had been extremely helpful and kind to all our asks. He has strong local contacts and that is always going to be an asset for his guests. So - thank you Retreat cottages for a memorable vacation at your place - and yes it was truly a Retreat!

Again stayed here June 14 to 18 2022, loved this time too. Very neat and cosy place to stay. Calm in the midst of a busy town even during peak season. Walking around to the Mall Road through the forest area is a great feeling. Hidamba temple and old Manali are just nearby.
Nice place.

Small property but beautiful and well maintained. Our 3 room cottage was a duplex set with 2 bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, living and dining areas on the first floor and a lovely attic style seating area with a third bedroom on the 2nd floor. The cottage has large bay windows to let the sunlight and the greenery in. It has a lawn in the front ( at the first floor level) with views of green trees, green mountain and snow capped peaks and you can listen to the sound of gushing river early in the morning and late evening (when there is no traffic on the road nearby). It is only about 1-1.5 km away from the Mall but seems far from the maddening crowd.

Service was top notch. The two caretakers of the property are very friendly and cooked delicious breakfast and dinner for us, whenever requested. Cafe Bella Vista is next to the property and serves delicious food as well.

Overall, an absolute gem - I wouldnt hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

Nice Experience - Unforgettable Memories. I stayed here with my wife for 5 days. There are two cottages of Owner in Manali. Log Hut in Manali in town and second in Aleo. We stayed in Aleo studio apartment. Which is very beautiful. I appreciate the living comfort, feeling of luxury, beauty of nature, service and the big thing "Behaviour of Raj and Chuki mahant" because of that we feel it like home. They cared every thing for us, for our need. It was unforgettable trip. I searched this cottage through trip Adviser only, I found every comment very positive on Trip Adviser for this cottage. After that I searched more about cottage and about owner on Google, And I found very interesting thing about them. I read a book "Born in Lahasa" and it was my great luck I personally meet with three character of this book too :) . Specially the Author of this book. Who is really a great personality. I am very thankful of Owner which are very polite and humble couple. And want to say them Raj and chuki. Your cottage is very beautiful and very comfortable, near to nature. :)..... but biggest thing you are really lovely couple.

We booked our accomodation seeking reviews of tripadvisor and checking the website of the owner Chukki Mahant. The owner are nice couple and having two properties, one near the Log Huts and other one at Aleo. The log huts are near the town having very good surroundings and peaceful. The Aleo one are more secluded and a little far from the maddening crowd of the Manali Town.First of all as per the location wise its just simply perfect.Log huts area is the VIP area of Manali, not very far from crowd and though near to all the amenities of Manali. We stayed at the Log Huts property for 2 nights in a 3 bedrooms with attached bathrooms having hot and cold water, a wide living area, dining and a fully equipped kitchen having refrigerator and even microwave and all the utencils. At the moment we stepped into the premises of the RetreatCottages, we were awe struck. The cottages was very neatly done and very well maintained. We were two couple with young children and enjoyed the cottages to the maximum. We cooked our own food in the kitchen and the attendent would come and clean all the utencils and all.Over all it was the best experience we ever had.The stay of ours was simply unimmaginably wonderful, kudos the Retreat Cottages.

We visited the cottages just about when they opened. The owner personally greeted us. The entire family was very friendly as if we were their family guest. We stayed in three bedroom unit which was perfect for six of us. There was spacious living and dinning area, nice patio and lawn with canopy. The place is artfully decorated.

Although Manali is crowded for my taste, this location is very quiet, scenic and beatutiful.

We travel fair amount and we rarely see such friendly family (even in India which is generally known for its warmth) and luxury unit.

Note there are two similar sounding cottages owned by the same family. This set of four units is newer and I am told much better than the old. This is near "Honeymoon Resort".

It took me complete 1 week to find a nice property in manali.. Since this time we have decided not to stay in any hotel and wanted to stay either in home stay or in a completely wooden hut.. My search ended when i found Retreat Cottages.. They got cottages at 2 different location.. one is in old manali and one in in new manali.. we stayed at new manali.... It's adjectant to Atal bihari institute of mountaining.. at the time of searching this place i got to know that owner of this cottages Mr.Raj Mahant and Mrs.Chuki Mahant is the real life character of a book which i read long back.. This was also a plus point for me to stay. As it's cool feeling that you are going to meet a person about whom you have already read. I felt somehow connected to them as i have already read about their life - offcourse whatever written in the book.. So booked this cottages.. We were 2 families and booked a 3 bedroom cottages..

The moment we enter i was overwhelmed by the hospitality and rooms were ready.. Infact Chuki Mahant keept calling me to know my location and we were supposed to reach by 2 pm so they have prepared lunch for us considering we must be tired and can't go out side for having our lunch.. Excellent home made food.. Althugh we have booked this for 2 nights only but at the very moment we have decided to extend our stay and we requested Chuki to extend for 4 nights.. As we liked the property and it was exactly like what we wanted during our stay..
Kitchen was well quipped with all the necessary amenities and utencils.. They have provided a boy to help in getting things from near by shop.. Although if you want you can have your cook with very nominal charges.. But we opt to make food on our own.. Although we got the help from their inhouse guy and they did it with happy smile.. A special thanks to Chotu who was there 24hrs to help us in every small things.. .. Even they have provided some guy to help us in kitchen and to surprise they didn't even charge..

They have maintained the hygiene in their premises.. Infact chuki and their family also live in the same premises and our cottage was adjecant to their cottages so it was an added advantage to have cleaniness..Cottage got a seperate living and dining area and a huge seperate garden which was sufficient enough to have our kids play..

During one morning a lady visted us and to my surprise she was the Author of the book i read " Born In Lahasa " and she was Namgyal Lhamo Taklha .. I was overwhelmed as i read he experiance during the transition period in tibbat.. A special thanks to Chuki for this oppurtunity..

If you are there than you don't need to worry about any of your local visit .. they have a guy who is more than enough to handle all your worris.. I am sorry as i forgot his name as writing this review after so long..

This place is most recommeded place to stay in Manali and from balcony you can see the thick forest and you can even go for some trekking as well.

A quiet and relaxing place to stay..
I will choose the same place to stay during my another visit to manali.

We would not have found a better place to stay during our holiday!! We stayed at the cottages at Aleo, which is quite near to the Mall road yet it was so peaceful amidst the apple orchards and could get a view of the snow capped mountains and dense forest from the rooms even. The cottages are very well maintained and the hospitality of Chuki and Raju is commendable. The photos posted on the website are of the actual location, in fact you will find it better when you reach there. The service is also very prompt and the boys are very friendly and professional. If you are looking to have a memorable holiday, I would surely recommend you to plan your stay at the Retreat Cottages.

I got the address of this cottage from the TripAdvisor itself and my longgggggggg hunt for a good hotel in Manali stopped. Me and my husband stayed in The Retreat Cottages, Aleo for 2 nights 3 days (Oct 12-14, 2013) and were overwhelmed by the quality of services offered, the location and the comfort. There was a lovely view of snow peaked mountains from both balcony and the room (We were lucky to see the fresh snowfall of the season), a well-equipped and super cute kitchenette, a big balcony and some lovely flowers everywhere you see. I would highly recommend this cottage for those looking out for serene and peaceful holiday!

What sort of activities for kids 8 to 10 years?
Answer from Atisha M
Manali, India
Hi there, on the premises we have open spaces for children to play. We do have a Basketball court but besides that the cottage is more a 'retreat' house, a place to relax and getaway from the fast paced city life. There is a club house in Old Manali (10 min walk) where kids can enjoy boating, go-karting, table-tennis and a few other activities.
