Gir Birding Lodge is in a large mango orchard next to the entrance to the Gir Wildlife Sanctuary. The lodge has standard rooms, standard six deluxe cottages, all with attached toilets, featuring western toilet fittings, hot and cold showers. Comfortably furnished, the rooms and cottages are surrounded by groves of the famous Kesar Mango of the Gir hills and other vegetation ensuring that a good number of birds come into the property itself. The dining and drawing areas on the first floor of the lodge are airy and have large windows and verandas that are ideal for enjoying the view of the forests and watching birds in the orchard and nearby sanctuary. Indian set-menu meals are served in these rooms that have a superb view of the deciduous forests from large windows, doors, and verandahs. Geared up for birders and other nature lovers, the lodge has knowledgeable naturalists to take guests for natural history drives and walks in the sanctuary.

Nestled in a tranquil mango orchard, the Gir Birding Lodge garners high praise for its eco-friendly environment and impeccably clean, spacious rooms. The serene oasis not only captivates guests with its proximity to a lion's sanctuary but also offers well-organized safaris and hot baths, creating an ideal retreat for nature lovers. While the attentive staff and excellent service are frequently lauded, room service has room for improvement. Despite some concerns over pricing, the lodge's value is recognized for its comfortable amenities and unique atmosphere conducive to relaxation and bird watching.

Our family of 9 including senior citizens stayed at Gir Birding Lodge for 2 days in early January. The arrangements made by Asian Adventures were very professional; the lodge is well managed by Mr.Ramesh assisted by excellent staff at the restaurant and naturalist Amit.

Rooms are spacious with piping hot bath water and sit outs where one can just relax hearing the sounds of birds and nature. Food was homely and tasty. All safaris were timely and the safari jeeps and guides went out of their way to help us spot some lions including a live kill! Naturalist Amit has good knowledge of birds and he took us for a morning bird watching walk and an evening river walk to see crocodiles.

Special mention of Ramesh who helped us with alternate travel to reach Somanth on Day 1 as our flight from Surat to Diu was suddenly cancelled.

All in all we had a perfect stay - good food, serene atmosphere, excellent service ! Recommended for those with genuine interest in nature and wildlife, not for those who want a typical resort with television, music, swimming pool etc

The lodge is ideally placed 5 minutes from the gates to the Gir forest Sanctuary. The bungalows are well furnished and each has a kettle with tea/ coffee and biscuits provided. Fresh water is also brought to your room daily. The bathrooms are well equipped with soap/shampoo and water is very hot! All the bungalows are well appointed with views across the mango garden. We spotted chittal and a lone jackal one afternoon while sitting on our patio.

The food is excellent and plentiful. All meals are authentic Indian cooking and there is cereal, fruit and toast for breakfast as well.

A highlight of the lodge is the attention and the service from all staff given to each guest. Blankets are provided for the morning game drives which you will need in the winter months!. Staff are polite and respectful and always available to answer queries. We would recommend the complimentary bird walk given by Amit: although this is a short walk along the river there is plenty to see (including crocodile) and Amit has extensive knowledge of the area.

We had a great time and would like to thank all the staff for making this such an enjoyable and comfortable stay. Hopefully we will be back one day.

Gir birding lodge:

A charming hotel,
safely tucked away in one corner of Sasan, it is perhaps the only hotel situated just adjacent to one of the Safari route gates.
A mango orchard with lush green surroundings, the property is home to a good no. of birds,
The jungle too is not far away; one can always hear the alarm calls of deer from the rooms.
It’s quiet and peaceful, the lighting is soft, and the air is fresh; a saving grace from the perils of city life.

The rooms are cosy with a simple elegance,
food is healthy but delicious.

Their team is outstanding,
a bunch of locals working together with others from as far away as Assam & Nepal.

Amit, the lodge naturalist is a specialist bird watcher and he excels in his skills.
An extremely friendly warm and helpful human being, he’s versatile in his functions, any wildlife enthusiast going there surely needs to meet him, be it for a friendly chat or for a bird watching excursion.

Rameshbhai at the reception is soft spoken and welcoming, his presence very reassuring.
Yakub, their chief chef is a master at creating wonderful delicacies out of simple everyday food, his paneer masala being the best I’ve ever had!

If you wish to hear the sounds of silence, the songs of the birds and the calls of the wild,
go to Gir birding lodge.

We stayed at Gir Birding Lodge for 1 night in early February 2024. The property is spread over 22 lush acres adjoining the Gir Forest. We were offered a tour of the estate, and we would've loved to walk around the mango orchards, but we only had 20 minutes in the morning. It was a pity since Amit, the resident birder, was full of enthusiasm and volunteered to take our pictures in the orchard.

The rooms are large, very large. It's hard to believe that this is not newly constructed because the furniture is in peak condition, and the woodwork is immaculate. There is an L-shaped divan next to the windows, and two wrought iron chairs on the porch- very inviting for a longer stay. Even more inviting is the food. A blackboard outside the mess declares that the best chef in Sasan Gir cooks here, and I wouldn't doubt it. The preparation is home-style but very very tasty. One has to inform before hand, but we ordered snacks (cheese cutlets and egg pakodas) unannounced, and those too were scrumptious.

All in all a very satisfying stay!

Gir Birding Lodge was suggested by our friend, turned out the absolute heaven for tired city dwellers. Situated right nxt to the Gir jungle, one can actually hear the roar of an occasional lion around midnight.
Located in a huge mango orchard, it is very peaceful abd serene and aesthetically designed with minimum disturbance to nature. The staff is very polite, friendly and helpful. Food is very good, satvik and reasonably priced.
Mr Amit, the resident walking talking encyclopedia on birds and a guide, walked us around the huge property, pointed out a lot of birds, and took us to the Sunset point which is at a walking distance. Mr Agarwal, the co-partner if thr lodge, made us feel so much at home...the passion that he has for wildlife and environment shines through.
We would love to re-visit Gir Birding Lodge again!

From the airport transfer, early morning and evening safaris, rooms and meals Gir Birding Lodge didn't disappoint. We organised everything from home in the UK by email and bank transfers, and everything we arranged was organised by the lodge perfectly. Transport, permits to enter the forest, Gipsy safaris with guides, food, rooms. Armit was a fabulous guide showing us everything from lions to bees and everything in between charmingly and knowledgably. Vijay and his team were courteous and helpful. Vijay made sure that we all had access to Wi-Fi and data, organising a cooking class, sending the recipes and enabling everything to run smoothly. The food was amazing, every meal cooked from fresh ingredients, much of it grown in the kitchen garden outside the restaurant window, the rest sourced locally and organic wherever possible. You won't find TVs in your rooms or perfect Wi-fi but there is more than enough to keep you entertained in the garden and mango orchard it is set in. I would recommend that you go on a morning safari as well as an evening one, and arrange a walk down by the river with Armit to see crocodiles, birds, bats etc.

Dear Guest, We’re so glad to hear that we were able to make your experience enjoyable and memorable. Our team is extremely efficient and hospitable, and is always prepared for whatever our guests may want or need. Since our lodges are built as getaways, we like to encourage guests towards outdoor activities, which is why we don’t have TVs in the rooms. Wi-Fi is available, but it is limited to the reception area since the area does not allow for long-range Wi-Fi. There are certain issues with the fundamental wiring, as well as the danger of the wires disrupting nearby wildlife, and vice versa. There is a multitude of outdoor activities to do, such as birdwatching and lion safaris. It was a pleasure hosting you, and we hope to see you again soon, whether it is back in Gir, or at one of our other lodges, like Jungle Lore in Pangot, or Van Serai in Jageshwar. Please don’t hesitate to reach out for more info! Krsnav Gir Birding Lodge Gujarat’s First Birding Lodge

As the name signifies, it is a lodge. Facilities matches that of a lodge. We had gone with high expectations looking at photos and the cost of room per day (7200 + 1500 for 8 year old) for with breakfast. Were originally disappointed with quality of room, especially of a bathroom. Found it very expensive for offering. May be it was due to peak Christmas holiday season.

But their excellent service made up for the early disappointment. Awesome service at Reception, Restaurant, birding tour etc… They were very helpful with our dietary restrictions and prepared special 0 spice meals for Breakfast and lunch and dinner we had there. Flexible with checkout.

Mr. Amit’s bird watching tour was excellent. He arranged binoculars for us and showed us many different species. He patiently repeated the bird names multiple times as we saw them at different locations. He is excellent spotter and has deep knowledge of the birds and took us on near by river and adjoining jungle for a walk. Encouraged us to walk further so that my 8 year old could see the crocodiles. Birding walk is highly recommended for people staying here. We saw more birds here than at Nar sarovar lake, later during our Gujrat trip.

In conclusion, property is nestled in mango orchard with good play area for kids and close to the safari center. Go with right expectations. Posting real current photos.

Great Location and Amit the guide is really one of a kind! You have to have him accompany you on the safari, as apparently each time he goes along, you see lions. We did see lions very very close, walking next to our jeep, which was amazing! And Amit showed and sent us many more pictures and videos of birds and lioness, baby lions and male lions. Thank you sooo much! Furthermore he is an excellent bird guide, knows everything about birds. We were impressed.
