The price is right. The location is perfect, close to the Charles Darwin Center, grocery, laundry, nice little restaurant and the main city center. But we picked the cheapest room and it was awfull. Dirty. Strong smell. No window. Very noisy. We’re glad we saved money but we could have had a slightly better room. There’s a pool (we didnkt use) and the staff are always willing to help.

We worked at the Charles Darwin Research Station for a couple of weeks on Santa Cruz island and needed a place close by that was reasonable and cheap. The Hostal El Pinzón fit the bill perfectly as it is about a kilometer from the entrance to the Galapagos National Park Visitor Center. Down a driveway on a quiet street, El Pinzón is a clunky, two story building. The layout is complicated, with the rooms on the upstairs floor which is inconvenient when you have a lot of luggage, but doable. The office is downstairs. There is a spacious, shared kitchen area with two large tables and an area to prepare food and drink, stove, sink, cupboards and three refrigerators with freezing compartments for guests' supplies. The tiled bedroom was ample enough for two people and our luggage. Wifi only worked in the kitchen area and on the stairs, however. The bed and mattress were good with fresh linen every couple of days, the bathroom was small but adequate with a nice hot shower. There is a small community recreation park behind the hostel which was sometimes a little noisy with children at night. Our hostess was attentive and informative and the staff were friendly and courteous. She often made coffee that was available all day. A good stay at a reasonable price, within easy walking distance of town and the port. Head out the driveway, turn left, 200 meters down to the main drag, turn right and walk a couple of kilometers into town, with lots of restaurants and tourist shops on the way.

We booked a “deluxe room”, it had no windows but it did have cockroaches. We were moved to another, smaller, room that had no cockroaches but also no WiFi coverage and enough damp that none of our swimming clothes or towels could stand a chance of drying. There was a cockroach floating in the pool most of the first day. The owners didn’t seem surprised or to care that much. The kitchen is also poorly equipped with not enough hobs, no oven and one frying pan. The only upside is the owners friendly dog. Just skip this one and find somewhere else.

Great hotel, with loads of rooms! Really welcoming staff, thank you. We were happy with our 3 bed room, it was spacious clean and had a good bathroom. Excellent kitchen facilities with lots of fridge space to accommodate everyone. The WiFi worked okay for the Galápagos.

This hostel is more like a hotel. We stayed 9 night in total. They clean the room every day, you have nice big clean rooms. Shower works fine. The kitchen is really nice and easy to use. The hostal is just on the edge the town so it’s very quiet at night. You can easily walk around in the area at night feeling safe. The lady working in the hostel is extremely friendly and a very very good host. She goes long ways to make you feel comfortable and welcomed. She’s also very helpful if you need information about anything. Her advices saved us a lot of money on this trip. I would definitely come back here next time.

$35usd for 1 night, 2 people (walked in off the street) Room 3a - don’t use the a/c as it’s full of mold and stinks when you turn it on. Rooms are interior- with no exterior venting which makes for very stuffy (except for a small window to the hallway in your room) Private bathroom with a toilet and shower - No fans in the bathrooms which if you have a shower (they do have HOT water - a plus) makes the floors slick and the room humid and smelly. Also allows for mold growth in the bathroom. TV in your room - we had 2 beds - double and a single - Rooms get very contesting at night when you close up to sleep with no circulation (as the a/c was unusable) Full kitchen on 2nd floor - looks to be stocked - we didn’t use it Water available, WiFi available too (ok) Very loud with doors slamming all night and no way to block the noise or echoing voices. If you need a quick place before the airport just to sleep this works or possibly other rooms are better upstairs? One of the cheapest places on the island with laundry service right next door (bonus).

A very pleasant hostel with some genuinely interesting decor - 3D wall sculptures of Galapagos creatures. We had a Hammerhead shark on our wall, as well as a wall mural. The bed was really comfortable and the shower was hot. The wifi was okay, but wifi on the islands isn't brilliant so don't expect to be able to stream films etc... The staff were really friendly, we shared a taxi to the airport with one of them who helped explain the pretty chaotic procedure for getting tto Baltra Island. There is a good kitchen and a large communal dining area. Eating out can be quite expensive so a lot of guests self-catered this made for a good social atmosphere, although the kitchen did get a bit cramped at times. Very close to the Charles Darwin Research Centre, and an easy walk along Ave. Charles Darwin from the port, although we were happy to pay the $1.50 fare when we first arrived from the ferry. Taxi from Baltra Airport should be $25 although you will also need to pay $5 each for the bus from the airport to the ferry and $0.50 for the short ferry crossing to Santa Cruz island This hostel is hidden away in a quiet corner near to the entrance to the Charles Darwin Research Centre. It is very peaceful. Until about 5:30am that is, then it becomes very noisy with staff and guests slamming doors and shouting along the corridors. Soundproofing here is non existent and we could even hear people having showers in rooms further down the corridor. Our room backed on to the kitchen/dining room area which was also vey noisy. If you plan to wake early, this place is fine. If you plan to sleep beyond 5:30am, come equipped with ear plugs. We always choose a double room in hostels with a private bathroom as we value our privacy. We didn’t get privacy here. From the corridor it is possible to see straight into the bedroom, and if you leave the bathroom door open, it is possible to see the toilet from the corridor. There are net curtains, but they are inadequate. The pool and bar by the way are for decoration only. Don't expect to able to use either

We stayed on two occasions when in Puerto Ayora, for four nights on the first occasion and two on the second. Great value basic accommodation, with some lovely mosaics and murals in the rooms. Clean and nicely kept, very helpful staff. Filtered water available - a nice touch. Short walk into the town. Only drawbacks, the pool and bar area weren't in operation during our visit.

We stayed 5 nights at Hostal El Pinzon. It is a very basic and cheap place. Prices at the Galápagos (food, drinks, sunblock, etc.) are high compared to continental Ecuador so I was surprised that we were able to find a place there to stay for that price. The room and bathroom were decent but the staff was not very knowledgeable about things to do, places to eat, etc. We were able to figure things out on our own no problem. The beds are done and towels are changed daily but the bathroom doesn’t get cleaned until you leave. There are no toiletries or hairdryer. There is a kitchen that you can use. Also, there is a tiny indoor swimming pool but the water did not look very clean so nobody gets in. You might see a small lizard or beetle on the hallway but that’s normal everywhere at the Galápagos. The best qualities: location is good, there’s hot water and WiFi, and the AC worked great. I would stay there again.

Really, really nice owner. It is clear there is an idea behind this place, and some serious but spotty effort. Overall, we liked the place, but our experience was not very good. First, our a/c controller was missing, and dude left for a three hour siesta. We got to sit there and sweat for three hours, as there was no other staff around either, and zero natural air flow. Second, some of the rooms are not yet finished, and lucky us, that's one we got. Not done = no screen or glass on bathroom "window" = many mosquitos. That is just fundamentally unacceptable. Third, to punctuate the general slapshod condition of the place, our toilet kept running all night. We would have been better off camping. The second day, after a few direct words with dude, we switched to a finished room and had an entirely different experience. So first night, one star, second night, four stars. Great potential, but not there yet. Note, shower H/C knobs are reversed.
