The room was like a cell and had no windows. It smelt disgusting and was dirty! The area is dangerous! There is a shack next door with vicious dogs that bark day and night! The hostel is very noisy as the room leads on to a communal area. We didn’t sleep all night! The kitchen is disgusting and the staff are very rude!!!! DON’T STAY HERE!!!

My stay here was very disturbing. The owner was all smiles and pleasant until you paid your money. The rooms on closer inspection were not very clean, it was noisy, there was absolutely no water when I needed a shower, not even in the sink. She finally turned on the water early that evening. Check out was at 9am or 9:30am but the maid banged on my door at 8am when I really needed sleep as I had been sick. The owner yelled at me rudely when I took some water from the water cooler, apparently she wants $1 contributed every time you take water but that hadn't been clear beforehand ... Which I'm ok with contributing some change but there should be a clear sign and she didn't need to be so nasty about it. The worst was when she asked for more money for the room ... I had unfortunately already paid another staff member earlier for the room .. I don't speak Spanish but my friend who was there at the time, speaks more spanish than me ... So this crazy woman decided to yell so rudely at my friend in Spanish while I had no idea why she was so upset or expected more money. Nothing was resolved so I left and paid again for another room. I couldn't get out of the place fast enough. I think the woman is mentally unstable. The stay here is not worth the cheap price if you can even get a cheap price. I think this woman is racist against foreigners, especially if you speak little spanish.

Unfortunately my stay in Santa Cruz was tainted by the owner of the hostel who was quite rude and disrespectful. On the second evening of my stay there was a misunderstanding about my room. I had already paid for the room but apparently she wanted more money .... I don't speak Spanish but she didn't even try to explain to me why she was upset. I was willing to try to understand why she wanted more money. In the end I just decided to leave. It was extremely uncomfortable and I had to pay twice for a room that night. I felt like she had very racist views on foreigners. I would not recommend anyone to stay here, especially if you are white and know little Spanish. I felt taken advantage of.

I will start with the good. The price is completely negotiable. So whatever price they quote you or whatever price is posted it doesn't really matter. You can bargain. I saw people pay as little as $8 a night and as high as $50 a night. They will great you with a smile, once you pay everything changes. You will notice a real attitude change right after that. Which brings me to the bad: The owner has a real obsession with water consumption. She is measuring how much water you consume and she will reduce the water pressure in your room until you have don't have any water. If you complain she will bring the water back for a little while and will start reducing it again until you don't have water again. It's a real fun cycle. She offers a water cooler in the common area and expects you to "donate" a dollar for every cup you consume. If she catches you washing dishes in the kitchen she will stare at you with the sting eye. It's quite entertaining actually. The internet is decent at first, and you will notice that the speeds will decrease until it becomes unusable. Very similar to the water situation. I don't recommend keeping any food in the room or you will be sharing your room with an ant colony. There are a lot of lizards in the rooms as well. I actually enjoyed watching the lizards eat all the ants and bugs inside the room. The A/C units are quiet at first and they will get louder and louder the longer you use them. The noise WILL keep you awake. So you have to make a choice between unbearable heat or unbearable noise. Fortunately for me, watching lizards eating bugs was quite relaxing and it helped me get to sleep. Try not to complain or bring any issues up to the owners attention if you would like to avoid receiving a displeasant attitude and sarcastic comments from the owner. Don't argue or bring any issues to her attention, you will be having two completely different conversation. You want to talk about the bugs in your room and she will tell you about the issues with her bicycle. You will just be confused. Don't leave any valuables in your room such as money or your passport. They are not safe. The owner has a habit of leaving the master keys to all the rooms laying around the common areas. Sometimes on the table, sometimes in the lock of one of the doors or maybe on the counter. Sometimes she will "hide them" by tossing them under the water dispenser. Also make sure you bring your keys because the owner is constantly forgetting where she left hers and will ask you to open doors for her.

Small hostal (5 rooms) on single floor with not much in between. Our room was small and the private bathroom even smaller. Sitting on the toilet meant your forehead was touching the opposite wall. Not designed for a larger person. Despite the rooms being cleaned daily, the bathroom floor was never washed and the bath mat never changed. Unfortunately, because of lack of ventilation and windows, the bathroom always smelt bad. We had twin beds which were fine. The shower pressure was inadequate and the air conditioning was OK. Internet was slow, but this is perhaps an island issue and not a hostel issue. Our neighbours in the other rooms had their televisions on until all hours so it made it difficult to sleep. The common area was also very small so every noise could be heard. The kitchenette was very small and never clean so we didn't use it in the end. Staying here four nights was a mistake. We should have stayed one (if that) and found somewhere else. This one is definitely not recommended.
