The Finch Bay Galapagos Hotel earliest risers can wade out into the beach’s calm waters and spot yellow warblers darting among the mangroves. With subtle architecture that mimics the surrounding volcanic rocks and attractive wooden walkways leaving the environment undisturbed, this Expedition hotel has a distinct sense of place.

“We just returned from a 10 day vacation in Quito, Ecuador and the Galápagos Islands. We booked all of our excursions and hotel stays with Metropolitan Touring directly. Camila was very responsive in helping plan our trip and answered each and every question in great detail. We stayed at the lovely Casa Gangotena in Quito for 2 nights and 7 nights at the beautiful Finch Bay Hotel. In Santa Cruz. To say we were happy with our trip is an understatement. We simply LOVED everything about it. From the moment we arrived at the Finch Bay Hotel, the staff and hotel manager, Alfonso, made us feel at home. Their kindness and attention to detail did not go unnoticed. The facilities were immaculate and the service was impeccable. The front desk staff knew everyone’s name and touched base with us daily to see how we enjoyed our day and to review our excursion details for the next day. We toured 4 different islands (Santa Fe, South Plaza, North Seymour & Bartolome) on the Finch Bay yacht, The Sea Lion, and were equally as impressed with the tour guide’s (Soto, Valentin & Fabian) knowledge of the animal species, history and landscape. The crew on the Sea Lion were great and served us a hot lunch and snacks each day! All of our meals were included while at Finch Bay and they did not disappoint! The food & desserts were delicious and plated beautifully. The bar prepared a multitude of innovative craft cocktails using herbs and salts that we looked forward to at the end of our day! Alfonso told us on our first night that he was sure we would have a fabulous week. He can say that with confidence knowing how well his staff is trained and the care with which he ensures is delivered to his guests! Thank you Alfonso to you & your staff for providing such a wonderful experience! We will never forget our time in the Galapagos and our blissful experience at the Finch Bay Hotel! “

Finch Bay was our last stop before heading back to the UK and provided a great location to rest up before our flight home. The hotel is served by its own private water taxis so access to Puerto Aroyo is very easy. The town itself is lively and inviting.
The hotel is set back from a public beach along a winding path from the jetty and has a beautiful pool which the resident pintails took to like ducks to water, which is very appropriate really! It was great fun watching them and the lava gulls chase each other for dominance of the popcorn available from sunning tourists. The pintails had a routine of getting their corn, washing it in the freshwater pool to make it softer and guzzling it straight after.
Alongside the pool, there’s a very well run cocktail and snacks bar which is a great place to spend your time. The grounds show off the volcanic nature of the terrain and you know the wild things- none of which are dangerous to humans- are near. In our 24 hours there, we saw a night heron, the aforesaid gulls and ducks, a snake, grey herons and egrets. Some of these we hadn’t seen anywhere on our cruise round the central islands.
Breakfast was excellent as was the meal the night before. The room was a little on the small side but the bathroom was ace with a regenerative shower and plenty of unctions and soaps.
The staff and GM in particular were extremely hospitable and prepared to engage with tips on what to do and where to go
We loved it and would happily have spent longer.

Finch Bay is a very nice hotel in a very unique location. While not actually very secluded, the panga ride necessary to reach the property, and the design of the grounds make you feel like you are far from civilization. Being in the Galapagos, it should come as no surprise that nature is an important part of the guest experience and the open nature of the walkways and the common buildings create a sense of immersion in the environment which is so unique to the area. This extends to the pool area, where it was common to spot some local birds using the water as a place to cool down or bathe. We found the included breakfast to be more than sufficient, and, when we did choose to eat dinner at the hotel restaurant, we enjoyed each meal. Unfortunately, the fitness area was pitifully small, and could only be considered adequate if you are only interested in the treadmill.
We spent six nights at Finch Bay, three of which were in a suite, and the other three (booked hastily on-site as a result of the protests on the mainland) were in a room. The suites are not especially large on their own, but they certainly surpass the rooms, which are on the small side. The main benefit of a suite compared to a room is the large veranda which looks out to the ocean. This feature alone almost makes suites worth it, as rooms have only a window which faces a common walkway. However, Galapagos trips are active by their nature, so we didn't find ourselves spending that much time in either accommodation category.
The service at Finch Bay was a bit of a mixed bag. The front desk was friendly, but the communication was not always up to par. However, the rest of the staff was generally helpful, including our guide on the one hotel-led excursion we participated in.
Overall, Finch Bay is a cut above most other properties, and its location and design give it a very unique and novel ambience. However, when compared to some of the top, top hotels (Four Seasons Tented Camp springs to mind), five stars would be a stretch.

We had an excellent three days on our arrival at Santa Cruz. The hotel is excellent in a wonderful location and the relatively high cost was justified. Normally, I would give it 5* , despite the fact that the rooms are actually quite small. As the hotel points out, most guests will not be spending much time in their room but enjoying the fabulous excursions which are available. After a trip to another island, we returned to Finch Bay Hotel for a fourth night. We were escorted to room 12 and were tentatively asked if this was alright. It was not the same as our previous room, it was much smaller. It had a plastic chair and small dressing table and place to put a suitcase. Two single beds had been pushed together and , when lying in bed side by side, we could touch the wall on either side of the room. The clothes cupboard was located in the shower room, but the door couldn’t be fully opened due to the waste bin and wash basin. The room was not practicable when you have suitcases and hand luggage to walk around.
The outside had a small tapered veranda due to being squashed into a corner next to the other apartments. The view was a board walk and a large shrub. We complained that the room was not the same size as the previous three nights and was far too small and not acceptable for the price we had paid. The staff replied they could understand what we were saying, but they were full and “sorry.” When I asked if we could have a complementary meal, as a gesture of good will, I was told they could book a table but we would have to pay. I sent photos to our agent in the uk and she contacted the local agent who has not received a satisfactory reply.
Room 12 is not acceptable as a standard room, at full cost, but would suit a children’s room adjoining the apartment next to it, or to be used as hotel storage. It’s a shame because it really let an excellent hotel down and leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

Nice hotel with a good swimming pool but we felt it was hugely overpriced for what it was. We did go over Easter so it was more expensive but the rooms felt basic and the service not up to scratch for the cost. Decent breakfast and lunch and dinner was very good. Boat service to Santa Cruz main island was also very efficient

Wonderful from A to Z The transfer from Baltra airport went smoothly and promptly (bus, ferry, car and water taxi from the hotel). The welcome was very warm, helpful and courteous. We were particularly impressed that the room was ready very early in the morning, as we had already been on the road for a while. The suite was comfortable and clean, not cluttered. There was a hammock on the balcony and a sea view, wonderful! And then it was just a matter of enjoying and relaxing, just the thing after a cruise. The sun loungers by the pool are comfortable and the great staff ask if you want something to eat or drink, so that sometimes you don't get enough exercise :) . We planned to eat in the hotel two evenings and twice in town, but we only ate out once because the hotel restaurant cooks sooo deliciously. We would have loved to stay longer, but... We will definitely be back! Thank you very much

This was the most luxurious of the properties we stayed at during our visit to Santa Cruz Island. It has a great location, right near the dock of Puerto Ayora for all the day excursions, but note you will have to take a small water taxi (provided complimentary from the hotel). This adds to the exclusivity of the hotel’s location, but add this time in on your ETA for arriving to the dock.
Our room was lovely with an ocean front view. We loved sitting next to the pool sipping on delicious cocktails with views of the harbor and superyachts, and our dinner at the restaurant was delicious—our sever César súper friendly.
We also did individual spa treatments late in the day—if you go near dusk make sure you ge there early to use their private outdoor plunge hottub—we wish we would have! They also sell quality products (like our sunscreen we purchased, made in Spain).
Finch Bay is definitely a splurge, but when is the next time you are going to be in the Galápagos? Worth every penny, I’d book it again without hesitation.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Finch Bay. The hotel is spotlessly clean, the food is delicious and well seasoned. Our suite room was beautifully furnished and blended in to the environment perfectly. The staff were all very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. However, the hotel’s apparent practice of welcoming guests from cruise ships to enjoy the food and facilities at the hotel is to the detriment of its guests. During our stay the pool and bar area was completely overwhelmed by a group of 40 from a cruise ship for an entire including children who screamed incessantly. The result was that there were no seats available for hotel residents. This was not how Finch Bay was marketed to us particularly at such a high price point. I would recommend that if this is going to be an on-going feature some guidance is put around it i.e. separating out areas for hotel guests and visitors around the pool, and being very clear about things such as chasing the resident wildlife and diving into the pool.

The staff here are just spectacular and are so friendly and kind! Jocelyn at the front desk made us feel so welcome and patiently answered all of our questions. This is such a wonderful way to see the beauty of the Galapogos! We are so grateful to the enthusiastic and helpful staff here - especially Jocelyn at the front desk and the wonderful housekeeping staff who refill the water and bring chocolates every evening. The environment, facilities and service are superb. The hotel is located in front of a beach, where you can walk to the beach directly from the hotel, with the towels prepared by the hotel. They have a superb swimming pool which is very clean. All staffs are very professional, friendly and welcoming. Food is great, highly recommended to have a dinner there.
