Ok, this place is unlike any I’ve ever been to. Visiting the Galapagos is not like going to an all inclusive resort where everything is catered to you. You are ONE with the animals. You obey the rules of no toilet paper in the toilet, of medium warm showers, of sea lions barking each morning, of iguanas lining up in the morning to catch some sun, of needing filtered water that they provide vs tap water to brush teeth and drink, and of the simplicity of co-living with nature. Also there was zero signage outside- so it took us 45 minutes to find - it’s Blu Galapagos but used to be called Mangrove Rojo, and honestly it felt like a mystery until we found it. Once you realize that you are visiting the animals land and not your own, and once you actually find the place, you will NOT be disappointed. Our morning breakfast had more exposure to the sea lions, crabs, water, wildlife, and iguanas than any tour. The rooms were very simple and very clean. The staff was super kind, responsive and helpful. Anytime we wanted a coffee- they made one fresh. The restaurant at Blu is honestly some of the best food we ever had anywhere in the world. The staff is incredible and fast. The views were unlike anything we have ever seen. And the recommendations for tour guides was perfect. Shout out to Jorge from Wow Galapagos Tours. He was just awesome. This was so unique and the location was unlike anything you will find on the Galapagos. For all of those reasons - go. You won’t regret it.

We booked Blu Galapagos for a pre and post cruise stay we were taking. We had high hopes for the stay at Blu given the nice pictures, positive reviews, and favorable ratings. We arrived the day before our cruise and checked in with Ronald who was helpful and provided a nice welcome drink for us. I was a little surprised when he provided us with his WhatsApp # so we could communicate with him if necessary, but we would soon find out why. Being jet-lagged from the redeye flight we took a nap and then woke up and tried to shower. Unfortunately, no hot water. I went to the front desk to see if they could have someone come look at it, but nobody was there. I waited and went back 15 minutes later, still nobody there. We took the cold shower option as we had a dinner reservation to get to. Nobody at the front desk when we about to leave for dinner, so I messaged Ronald who said he would have someone look at it. A gentlemen arrived in a flash and set to work on it; we left for dinner. When we returned from dinner, still nobody at the front desk. The next morning when we awoke to shower, still no hot water, and nobody at the front desk. We returned from our 5 day cruise for a 3 night stay at Blu; for this portion of the trip I had booked a suite. The woman checking us in tries to charge me for our stay. I inform the booking is pre-paid, and show her my confirmation. She calls for someone else to help her. They figure it out and finish the check-in. The second woman tells me she has upgraded me to a suite. Excuse me? My confirmation shows I booked a suite. Turns out we are in the same little outbuilding, just on the second floor instead of the first. There is absolutely nothing different about the rooms - exact same size, layout, amenities, etc. By the time I return to the front desk to inquire, both women are gone. I ring the bell, nobody returns. We set out to explore Puerto Ayora. When we return, nobody at the front desk. We shower up for dinner - at least we have lukewarm water now. At no time that morning, during breakfast at the hotel, or when we left for the day's activities, was the front desk manned. I do notice that the stairs to the second floor of the main building are taped off so they can't be accessed. We return from the day's activities and still nobody at the front desk. I message Ronald about the problem and he says he will look into it. That evening, I speak with the "manager" who tries to tell me that I'm in a suite. I show her the pictures on the booking site for a suite, which clearly don't match. I show her the difference in my confirmations for the two stays. The rooms are the same. We go round and round. She eventually offers to move me to a better room, which matches the booking pictures, for which the balcony chairs have no cushions. I show her the cushions in the pictures. "Oh no, we don't have those anymore." I'm not sitting on a wooden chaise with no cushion. We decide it's not worth repacking and moving at this point. That night there is loud music coming from a property in close proximity to the hotel that starts up around 10pm and finishes around 1pm. Nobody at the front desk to speak to about it. The following night the loud music, which is clearly a live band, starts up at 11pm and proceeds to go on until 3am in the morning. Flashing lights from the rooftop of the building next door to the hotel pierce the room even with the curtains drawn. Nobody at the front desk to help. I message Ronald, but clearly he is sound asleep because he isn't anywhere near the hotel where its impossible to sleep. While checking out the next morning, the "manager" mentions that yes she heard the loud music and tells us that is actually illegal. I ask her if she stays at the property - "Yes, I sleep over there." "Well if its illegal, and you're running a hotel, why didn't you call the police to stop it so it wouldn't ruin your guests night?" Absolute crickets for an answer. All she could do was chuckle. The location is good, the views lovely, but there is nowhere you can sit waterfront other than in the restaurant. Your experience may differ, but mine was extremely disappointing. Their painting "touch up" job makes the room look awful, perhaps why the lighting is so dim.

Stayed here for 2 nights and host Ronald was amazing. Accidently booked a room with only 1 queen for 2 guys and he came back with the option to upgrade to a bigger room with 3 beds. We approved but then he came back and you could see sweat on his shirt. He moved another bed into the room to avoid the upgrade cost. He then also arranged the day trip for snorkeling and also the tour to the tortoise, lava cave, and 2 craters. He even scheduled the taxis. The food at the restaurant is also extremely good. It's pricey but you get what you pay for. The included breakfast is also very good. If you're looking for a place in Puerto Ayora definitely check it out oh yeah and it's right on the ocean.
