I was in this hostel for only 1 night. Pro: cheap, nice bedroom, gentle host. Con: not in the center (5-10 minutes away), wifi not very good (but who really cares) Nothing else to say, I was there for only one night so look at other reviews to confirm.
We found this place last minute and although at first sight it doesn’t seem like the place you would choose for your first nights in Galapagos (in the sense that it is a bit distant to the main parts of town, the beach and the pier compared to other places and the decor is not modern, and it is not big - it is actually a house) we were to surprised to find that it has basically everything you need, such as a TV, a shared kitchen and drinking water, and even laundry machines for rent. The owner was very helpful, he showed a map of the island, tours available and top places to visit and he even called a taxi for us for the morning we had to leave San Cristobal and take the ferry to Santa Cruz. We just wished it would be cheaper based on its location and its decor. It still needs improvement and it was a 10-15minute walk to the nearest beach and at night the walk home could look a little bit sketchy (although San Cristobal is very safe). …
Though my Spanish is lacking, my communication with Efren has been frequent and positive. This man takes care of his property and the people who are in it. Whether it's picking up from the airport, laundry, tour recommendations or simply asking for local feedback; Efren was always willing to help. As a solo traveler, this place served my needs as I ventured around the island for 7 days. The kitchen has a fridge, stove, standard pots, pans and utensils. Not a lot, but enough for the amount of cooking that I did. There is a mini market across the street which had the majority of the food that I needed during my stay. I would recommend that you bring your own flavouring and spices as there isn't much left behind by travellers. The beds are comfortable, the private toilet and shower in room #2 was convenient, it had A/C and I was away from the noise on the street. They came through and cleaned the rooms daily and made the bed. If I had to say anything negative about this place, it would be that you can find little ants running around the building. But from what I've seen, they are everywhere around town and in many shops. So you really can't avoid them. If I was to return to this island, I would happily stay here again. Otherwise, my last bit of advice if you are visiting the Galapagos is bring enough sunblock for your time here as it's always hot and sunblock is expensive to buy if you need more. …
This is a small place, with a comfy little sitting room and a large kitchen with a good-sized, clean stove and fridge. Beds were comfortable. Owner was friendly, but always seemed in a hurry, so we tried not to ask him too many questions. 5 of us were here for 4 nights in 2 different rooms. The three of us in the triple at the end of the hall had relatively restful sleep, but the 2 who stayed in the double next to the front door didn't sleep well at all and didn't have their own bathroom. The noisy street was just outside their window and the acoustics outside their room amplified sounds of other visitors, some of whom came in quite late. While the kitchen was serviceable, there really weren't enough pans, dishes, etc to do much more than 1-pot meals, cereal and coffee. We had hot water most days, but usually had to, first, go outside and up to the manager's apartment to get someone to come down and reset it for us. We liked that it was close to restaurants and the town beach.…
We stayed for four nights here - our first stop on a 18 day trip to Galapagos. Efren, the Hostal owner met us at the airport and gave us suggestions for tours - then arranged all tickets and pick ups etc. Having now been to three other islands we think at least another day on San Cristobal would be worth it- the Hostal had free water, a kitchen, and washing machine. Nothing was too much trouble for Efren. You have to walk 5-7 minutes into town but given the price and service were excellent. San Cristobal has much to offer and this Hostal had everything you need.
We stayed here for 3 nights during early April when it was really hot. The air conditioner works really well and during the afternoon we just hide away in our room. The owner was very nice, took us to the port for free. He was very friendly when we first arrived and was able to check us in after our early departure of our cruise around 9am. It is slightly far from the centre and a bit of an uphill, but if you don't want to walk, you can just take a taxi for USD$1.
Myself and 3 friends from Australia stayed for 2 weeks and did not want to leave. Maria and her family who own the hostal are very friendly and helpfull. Great value for money in comparison to other places on san cristobal. 5 minute stroll into town and a nice view of the ocean from the hostals porch.Sheets were changed daily and rooms were clean and comfortable. A spacious kitchen downstairs with fridge is available for use, although Marias cooking was fantastic. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend hostal "d" estrellita if you were to visit san cristobal, Galapagos. Efren, Marias husband would be happy to organise tours, ferrys, taxis and any information you need. A great family run business.
First off Effren is great. Listen to what he has to say regarding tours and island information, he will not steer you wrong. Rooms are large and comfortable, with great A/C. Hot water and Wifi are dicey, but both work. Rooms are extremely clean and well kept, and include TV if you are so inclined. The ktichen is reasonably well stocked if you want to cook, I went upstairs to Effren's restaurant one night and had fried chicken with his family. Delicious! You are 10 minutes from town walking distance. It is obvious Effren loves what he does, it shows. He even took me to the dock on the day my boat left. If I find myself back on the island, I will stay with him again.
Really nice hostel, the nicest we had in the 2 weeks we went from island to island. We stayed here twice. Verry friendly owners, nice ambiance, clean and very well equiped kitchen, nice rooms with A/C with bathroom, hot water, good WiFi, fresh towels every day, pick-up from the airport. Great experience!!
We have been welcomed by the owner, Efren, directly at the airport. He brought us to town and showed us around and did not attempt to force us to stay at his hotel. The rooms were nice, the shower is a bit tricky but you'll want cold water anyway! The owner will make you part of his family during your stay, and will do anything to suit your needs! He gave us documentation and contacts about everything there is to see on the island, and most importantly, he lead us to a very kind and experienced taxi driver who gave us a private tour of the whole island for a day, one of the best trip I've had in my life! The price for the room as well as the private tour were more than reasonable, I would recommend to anybody, except if you're into 200 USD/night luxury kind of room.
