Unfortunately our one-night stay was marred when the area around the hotel was without water from check-in around 5pm until around 3am, forcing us to use bottled water to flush the john and brush our teeth. Ironically, the vases of roses in two of the rooms had water but the flowers were dead and drooping. Also, that problem prevented the... More

Dear Guest, We apologize for the "no water" inconvenience at our hotel but there was nothing that could be done. The municipal turned off the water to the entire city for the duration fo time mentioned due to the necessary replacement of some water pipes. We had foresight enough to place two very large bottles of distilled water into all... More

Don't bother staying in otavalo, make your way out to this fantastic little town and to this beautiful hotel. The owners are super friendly and accommodating, and the staff was competent and welcoming. The rooms are very clean, the wifi was strong, the beds comfortable, and breakfast was good. What more could you ask for? It is hard to say... More

Huge room, very clean, great local artwork decorating walls, beautiful vase of roses to welcome us. This is in a quiet part of town handy to main street, our room looking out to cathedral. We just loved this clean, quiet and colourful town that specialises in leather craft. Very good food in restaurant. Nice colonial style building with beautiful indoor... More

I did not stay at this hotel, but I had the opportunity to eat there. The food was awsome, great taste and the environment really nice. The restaurant is located on a central colonial patio which gives it a very nice, romantic and special environment. The prices are convenient, even though the place might seem expensive at first.

Thank you for the good review on our food/restaurant. We feel it has come a long way in the 9 months since its purchase. We have hired a culinary expert to design new recipes and come up with some new dishes. He has made our menu varied but our goal is to serve the very best................ bar none. Thank you... I am a retired firefighter. My wife and I stayed at The Land of the Sun Hotel for 9 days. It was a wonderful place to stay! The prices are good, the breakfast was fine, room was comfortable but could use a little attention in maintenance. It is across the street from a church in one direction, and an ex pat bar in the other, therefore noisy. Everything is walkable here, but taxis, as usual, are cheap $1-2. Good places to eat and buy leather goods abound.... More

We have a guest that selects a room with a balcony that overlooks the street....hence 'The Bar'........and yes on Saturday night it can certainly be noisy. But, the same guest reviews 'The Bar' and rates it highly having had drinks there earlier. Apparently the guest only likes loud music when she is in attendance. After she has gone the bar... More

For $64 a night in Ecuador this place should be better. The covers are worn and mismatched, the treads on the stairs are loose, the railings are sticky and dirty. Still the rooms are spacious, the location great, and the building gracious. Maintenance is long overdo.

Land of the Sun (Tierra del Sol) is in the middle of it all in small Cotacachi. Tour groups, backpackers and wanderers of Ecuador flock to tiny Cotacachi for the town’s leather handicrafts.
