Ok the good bits:
I stayed at The Dreamer before and after doing the Lost City trek. It's ideal for getting to both The Lost City and Tayrona Parque Natural Nacional as its on the outskirts of town in the right direction.

This hostel is of the highest quality and the staff will go out of their way to help you. Special mention to Laura bacca and diego who are great and super friendly! You won't want to leave. Thank you guys!
Located 100 steps away from a huge white sand beach, The Dreamer Hostel feels more like a resort than a backpackers haven. A little on the pricey side, the A/C rooms, clean pool, buffet breakfast, and good quality food more than makes up for the...More

It's not advisable to only do a half day trip. It takes approx 45 min to 1 hour from Dreamers to the main front gate of Tayrona, from there, you get a colectivo for another 15 mins to where you start the treks from. All the good beaches are at least 1 hour walk from where you get dropped. The lines at the front gate will take at least 20 mins and can be up to an hour depending on the time of year you're travelling so a half day trip would be impossible or not worth it.
My suggestion is to check out of the hostel and take an overnight bag. Go early in the morning and you will be at Cabo San Juan before lunch. This way you're pretty much guaranteed an hammock or one of the two private cabanas on the nicest beach in Colombia. The next morning you can trek out of the park back to the main gate and be back at the hostel by mid afternoon.
