Makako has a lot to improve to just be an average hostel. To define the hostel in a word, it would be: precarious. It's is very poor and no cozy at all. The only two bathrooms are for general use (men and women), the shower is awful (one of them is just a pipe), there's no toilet seat in one...

Nice lounging area with a TV and computer. There is also a small balcony which overlooks the street. It's nice if you want to sit and have a drink and enjoy the view of old style buildings and roofs. The rooms are pretty basic. We had two fans in our room. It was pretty hot even with the fans but...

This was a nice little place all within walking distance from the happenings in Cartagena. It can be very hot even though there are fans in the rooms and if you're a couple that sleeps in the same bed, that most likely won't happen here as the beds are a bit small. A plus was that the 1 shared bathroom...

Stayed for one night only because I couch surfed the next night but I thought that they were very sweet :) both the lady owners and the guy! They were very warm towards me, let me cook! There were some issues with electricity but I think that's normal in cartagena! I left a couple of my thinfs there and they...

Arrived at night to find our shared bathroom was missing a light and a toilet seat. The light got fixed the next day but the toilet seat never did and it was never very clean there! Sat on the hammocks briefly but changed our minds when we saw how filthy they were, too many sweaty bodies and never washed. The...

Makako hostel is clean, safe and in a great area on a beautiful street right in the old town of Cartagena. Theres a supermarket, atm etc around the corner. Jacqueline, one of the staff, was lovely and friendly and got to know us and helped us practice Spanish. Even after only a few days there she would wish me buenas...

TO THE OWNER OF THIS HOSTEL: You need to fix your system and management, and at the very least be there to trouble shoot problems! This hostel has good potential but the system is ridiculously bad! We booked for few days but the first night, the electricity of the building is out. The staff said that it'll come back in...

The best thing about this hostel is the location, other than that it is just Ok... oh wait! staff is very friendly and helpfull, social area is big enough to chill and surf the web while the sun goes down in cartagena.

Yakelin was an amazing front desk girl, she made you feel at home and was so friendly. She helped us with the map, finding places to go, and helping us with transportation. She is fantastic! There was also a super friendly housekeeper, but I never caught her name. There is coffee in the morning for free, and the location is...

Very hot in the ommon areas but the "feeling at home" vibe just makes for it, plus they have good air-con in the dorm. Great value for Cartagena price standards. Great location within the walled city. Staff are awesome.
