We went for the second time to this very charming hotel in the pedestrian area of PingJiang Lu. From there you can easily walk and enjoy the historical area. The rooms are very comfortable and spacey, we had a wooden bath tube and the room was very quiet and romantic. Some of the public areas would require some renovation (carpet... More

On the face of it, this place should have a lot going for it - ancient building with lots of courtyards, historic furniture but with modern plumbing and electrics. In fact, when the walls were painted, much of it dripped on to the old woodwork, where it was left. The plaster was peeling from the walls and that on the... More

Wow, a hard one. Let's start with the good: seriously cool property. Historic building and the rooms are decorated with old furniture, things like traditional canopy beds and wooden bathtubs. For those of us who don't get many opportunities to experience this, it was awesome. But, yes, there's a feeling of neglect; grubby carpet and peeling paint in our room,... More

The Lodge is beautiful and build in the Ming style. Our kids and we, the parents had a large room with typical Chinese elements. Our room even had 2 airco's. The bathrooms are modern and had a shower and a separate bath. We could not hear a thing from outside. The lodge is close to the old center and about... More

One of the most fascinating places I've every stayed. We enjoyed exploring the numerous small gardens in the lodge and having Chinese antique furniture to use. Yes, the carpets were worn and the bed was harder than western beds, but that was the case in many of the hotels we stayed at in China. I wouldn't want it to look... More

First the good- this is a 'heritage' property that was put together by combining 2 original Ming era homes in the historic Pingjiang area. It is evident that the owners at some point undertook a significant amount of expenditure to renovate the complex, adding modern bathrooms and antique or faux antique Chinese furniture in keeping with the ethos of the... As many reviewers comment, this a very historic property. That alone makes it worth a stay. however carpets are stained, there is a musky odor ans there is no breakfast. It is well-situated. The staff lacks charm. the bathroom is modern, The bed is hard. For one night it is fine, for more I don't know.

An incredibile place in The heart of the old town of suzhou. As you can read in many comments it has a dump smell and need to change the carpets, but it still an incredible piace to spend a couple of nights

I wish there were negative stars. The good :the hotel is a beautiful old home with great potential. It is located right next to Ping Jiang street. The horrible: the gardens are abandoned, the rooms dirty and not maintained. The staff is so horrible it is unbelievable. Not a single one of the front desk is decent. They look the... More

“This lodge was remodeled from an ancient property, so no room is exactly the same, need to check carefully. The one we stay is good, with a separate living room and a connected bedroom - this is not a 5-star or 4-star western type hotel - it is for experience.”
