First time finding the Hostel was a little difficult, go down the small road next to the big black and red restaurant. The location was convenient for food and transport. We tried the street food at the University south gate and evening BBQ. Could walk to the old town and the Baishamen Beach. Pretty good value for money.

Could only stop over there for a day. There was a nice street food market but the hostel was extremely boring. Bathroom was shabby, bad vibe in the common area. Maybe it'd be nicer to go with your own friends because there were really not many people and not many socializing.

I stayed in Banana hostel twice. The first time was in 2011 the second this year (2013) Pros The rooms are clean, cheap and basic. The staff were friendly (although sometimes had difficulty understanding me) The (foreign) owner knows a lot about Hainan and gave me a lot of tips on the best places to cycle. The pizza is mouthwateringly...

staff helped us exchange money at the local bank because we ran out of CNY. They also had a free map of Haikou on the front desk. Our room was clean enough and had ensuite shower. Hostel was down small road behind a big restaurant. There was a dcs lounge and outdoor terrace.

Stayed there for 4 nights after we got bored of sanya. It is locatd in a quiet alley a little off the main street and is thus very quiet. The room we stayed in (double, top floor) was very big, clean and had AC with good wifi signal. The only thing was the mattrace. It was very hard. If you...

Trip Advisor Review of Haikou Hostel As always, satisfaction is based in expectations. Banana hostel meets or exceeds all expectations at its price. Really good value at 80RMB/night for a single with air-con and hot water. Everything is very clean. The singles without a/c are the same price as those with a fan, so there is an incentive to reserve...

In January, we went there for dinner because were told the food was good. My wife tripped on their stair abd was injured. They refused responsibility, and we had to go to court (in CHINA). Their main claim why they were not responsible for her expenses was that they lost their license in 2006, and are operating illegally, so, we...

We had a great time here, mainly due to renting bikes for the day and the traditional Italian style pizza and pasta! We would come back from biking tired, and enjoy some drinks and pizza while watching movies. It was fun. There is a lot of info at the Banana Hostel and on their web site about Hainan, I wish...

There aren't many options of youth hostels in Haikou therefore we took Banana. It's fine for one or two nights sleeping but not more. The staff there is nice. Especially a tall guy - I didn't get his name. He helped us alot with information from how to get around the city to what trains to take and where from....

Don't be fooled by the website, this place is pretty cruddy - the cleanliness was poor, the place looks like it hasn't been properly cleaned for ages, noise really carries in the hostel because of the thin walls. Also, trips that we wanted to go on weren't running. We ended up going and staying at a local hotel after 2...
