As a 5 star rating, it should be excellent. Nice dining room. breakfast great. Rooms small for the money. however, prices can be negotiated down depending on circumstances. They did recommend us to see the "ORGAN by the Ocean", interesting site in Zadar near the OLD TOWN. Tourists on a budget should search for Pensions.
A summary of our 12 nite trip from Zagreb to Dubrovnik. Rented a van. Our plan was to drive the coast and stay in places we liked with no timetable. Our only plan was to spend the last 3 nites near Dubrovnik.
We stayed 2 nites in Opatija, 2 nites in BELI on the Island of Cres. (stayed in Pension Apartments). Arrived in Zadar late, no time to search for pension, stayed 1 nite. Trogir 1 nite in a nice reasonable pension (30E), then on to Makarska Riveria Hotels for 3 nites. Then drove to Dubrovnik with a stop in Medugorje. BOSNIA. Stayed 3 nites at the Albatoss Hotel in Cavtat. (will review hotels later).
Cavtat is a great place to stay when visiting Dubrovnik. Water Taxis are the way to go. Stayed in Hotels 7 nites, Pensions 5 nites. (ALL without Reservations). Trip went very well, the Croatin Coast is beautiful. Highly Recommended. Flew back to Zagreb and returned to Chicago.
Exception: we had resevations in Opatija the first 2 nites, I have learned that flying to Europe you need a definite place to recoup in case of delays etc. Also, always stay near the departing airport the last nite. Cavtat was perfect.

We had a little troubke finding the hotel and when we arrived they had lost our booking even though I had an email confirmation from them. It did not matter as they had plenty of rooms available. The room was comfortable. We had an excellent dinner in the restaurant that night. It suited us for a one night stay passing through enroute to Slovenia but we would not stay longer than that.

Stayed there for one week, our impression is the hotel needs some improvements. The room are clean, the bed extremely comfortable and clean, wi-fi good and the service an the desk very good, the staff was exceptional, friendly.
But the breakfast was poor... We were in two ** stars hotel and the breakfast was much better.
No espresso machine, no toaster.

Do not under any circumstances consider staying at this hotel. The outright 'cheek' of the management of this hotel to brand itself as 4 Star and charge €200 a night to stay here is nothing short of immoral.
We spend 16 days travelling around Croatia and had a wonderful experience. We were on a varied budget, opting for reasonable self-catering / apartment accommodation in some places while treating ourselves to little more luxury elsewhere. All in all, we were relatively happy with our accommodation choices until of course we arrived at the Hotel President in Zadar.
We hadn't pre-booked anything. We decided we would 'treat' ourselves for this last stop on our destination and go for this ‘luxurious 4 star accommodation’ Hotel President. Well…we were in for a shock.
When we arrived, the first thing we noticed was the very shabby entrance. The canopy was filthy and was badly ripped and thorn. But to be honest, that doesn't bother me so much...but it certainly isn't something you'd expect to see from a 4 * hotel. When we arrived into the lobby, everything including decor and design was so average and dated. I could imagine that perhaps 15 years ago or so this hotel would have stood up a lot better. But it now has the appearance of an old run down cheap hotel. As per the previous person’s comment, if they were charging €60 a room, I wouldn't be writing this review. But I think is the most annoying thing about this hotel is the way it advertises itself and charges prices that don’t ever remotely reflect the service and value you would expect. It boasts all this nonsense like the 'aperitif bar' etc, whereas the reality is simply a shabby old room with a couple of old chairs. At most there is one or two staff that runs the hotel, acting as receptionist, bar man, porter all in one. It would nearly remind you of a Faulty Towers type operation.
Furthermore, in a massive contradiction to how the hotel attempts to present itself, we experience what only appeared to be rogue and dodgy dealings. Like the other reviews we got the whole only two rooms left, but the hotel was like a ghost town…not one other person was with us in the restaurant for breakfast. We were also offered the 8% discount for paying by cash…which is all very ‘Dell-boy’ like. I don’t mind that kind of offer from a local who is offering a room for the night, but not from a hotel which boasts such grandeur. And when we initially arrived, we had the choice of a Queen or King room. We chose the Queen but by no means did we get the ‘Queen’. I’d say even if we chose ‘King’, we’d still end up in the same room.
Finally, to add insult to injury we put ourselves through the ‘breakfast’ ordeal. An absolute shambles. Toast was like cardboard. The croissants were at least 3 days stale. We got our white coffee served in a milk jug….but I think they must off milked the local stray cats, because I have never tasted such vile stuff in all my life.
I think it was this experience that annoyed us the most. For a hotel to present itself as 4 * and to boast its grandeur as it does (e.g. look at the website) and then to offer us such crap for breakfast…really annoyed us.
I’ve said enough. All I can say is do not stay at this hotel under any circumstances. This place needs to be honest and either revert to being cheap hotel option and cut its prices dramatically or else undergo a huge renovation and management change to bring it up to the standard reflective of the prices it charges.

Problem on my stay not previously experienced by reviewers -- credit card machine is broken and I had to pay in cash. Desk clerk at check-in said it had not been working "for a long time". Next morning desk clerk said repairman was coming that afternoon.
He didn't show up so I had to make two trips to ATM to get enough cash. This is the first hotel I have ever stayed in where if machine was broken they couldn't hand process the charge.
I would think anywhere in the world you can get a credit card machine repaired if you really wanted it. . .. could this be a way to avoid the small charges for using credit card.
Previous reviewers wrote wifi did not work above first floor. I was on second floor and no signal. I could walk down the steps to the first floor to send and receive or go tot he lobby. And Desk Clerk seemed surprised it didn't work on second floor.. he should read Trip Advisor.
One other problem.. hotel made me a reservation for dinner in Zadar and marked restaurant on the map. Got there and it was a teenage disco. . .. I didn't have address and no one knew the location. ... Had to walk back to car to get guidebook. . . then I was able to locate.
Breakfast was okay and staff tried to be helpful even if they didn't succeed.
One other note. .. .other readers seem to be catching on. . first night I was the only guest. .. and second night I believe there were two other rooms occupied.

The hotel is inconveniently located, outrageously overpriced and has a indifferent and/or hostile staff that seem to feel they're representing a Ritz, not a very pretentious Croatian B & B. We requested a sea-view room, but didn't receive one even though the hotel was empty. They encouraged us to have dinner in the hotel restaurant, and then charged us over $100 for a bottle of mediocre Croatian wine and several more $100s for the dinner which was marginal at best, and they wouldn't adjust the price when we complained. The over-the-top bordello decor looks like something from a bad movie. This is by far the most egregious example of a hotel ripping off its guests that I have ever experienced.

We booked this hotel through Agoda for wednesdsy 7th of August. Michael received confirmation of booking by email from the Hotel. when we arrived at the Hotel early afternoon the receptionist asked for our passports and then we were told that the hotel was booked. she told us she gave the room to guests that wanted to stay another night! even though we had a booking. This is absolutely ridiculous and totally unacceptable. It is bad for business
they got on to the manager and still no joy. In fairness the receptionist was okay as she had been off . we booked an apartment but it was just the total inconvenience of it all and the unfairness. we were not treated fairly. we called Lydia the manager the next day directly and we were tod that she had emailed agoda and she was to send us a copy of the email, which she never did! kept fobbing us off and her manner was not nice either . now have to wait a long time for the money back , which ironically was taken straight away after the booking....interesting. ! we were offered a night the end of august/sept. verbally. great.... considering going back home to work the next day. overall disappointing and really bad for business.
