Detailed Reviews
Located in Diklo, a very picturesque quiet area of Zadar, easy to get to on the number 8 bus from the main bus station. (If you fly in to Zadar, use the airport shuttle bus to the main bus station and the bus stop is just outside of the bus station - door through from the information/ticket office. There are taxi's from the airport of course but I'm not sure how much they cost - 150kuna ????? maybe.
I stayed at Hotel Villa Nico with my granddaughter for a week in August 2013. We stayed in the budget priced rooms which are situated on the ground level under the restaurant so I cannot comment on the rooms in the hotel proper. Having said that, the room we stayed in, although small with a small window, had very good air conditioning, a fridge and digital TV, so for the price we paid, which included breakfast was extremely good.
The staff are excellent, especially in the restaurant both in the day and evening time. The food and service are very good. The views over the sea from the outside area of the restaurant are gorgeous.
As I mentioned before, the area is very picturesque, beautiful in fact. Hotel Villa Nico is literally 10 metres from the sea. Everybody swims off/sunbathes on the promenade. You can borrow beach towels and sunbathing mats from the hotel (free).
The number 8 bus service is every half hour (terminus stop 2 minutes walk from the hotel) and this takes you into town - 10 min bus ride, (get off at the Komzen supermarket stop), to walk over the bridge to the old walled town.
The Villa Nico decor I would describe as a little bit shabby/chic, over-the-top ornate for some people maybe but very nice for others - I liked it.

We were just passing through so did not give this much of a stay but it was fine. Rooms and hallways are dated but clean. Curtains not functioning in our room so it was not dark and our son was up at 6:30, but no other real complaints. The man running breakfast was very nice and made something special for our son. The sea is right across the street so great views and fast access to water.

Came to visit Croatia, Zadar in August 2013 (it says October 2014 but it was really August 2013) with my Nan who is very well-travelled, we stayed here for a week in Hotel Villa Nico.
The hotel was small and we stayed in one of the budget rooms on the ground floor, our room had just enough space and storage with a good bathroom, it also included a mini fridge which was very convenient and we got aircon too. The food was also delicious and there was a lot to choose from at breakfast. Though In the evenings when the guests and other customers would come to dine at the restaurant, there was only one waiter every night and it was always the same guy (although the manager came and helped out one night).
One of the best things about Hotel Villa Nico was the fact it was literally ten metres away from the sea so whenever we were relaxing by the water and we needed to nip back to the hotel, it was never an inconvenience. It was a very beautiful hotel too and when we sat in the open dining area we always had smashing and breathtaking views.
A downside to this hotel was that since our room was on the ground floor, we were right under the restaurant so we could hear a lot of noise sometimes, and there was wifi available but I was never able to hook up to it. Also there should have been more than one waiter everynight. I don't know if there are more waiters now working at nights since my stay in August 2013, but if there isn't, then I really think so hotel should hire a few more people to make that job more bearable.
Overall I really enjoyed it here, I recommend it! :)

We stayed here for 2 nights as part of a 2 week holiday in Croatia and Bosnia.
The Hotel is average in almost everything but I gave it poor review because We experienced really bad discrimination & racism incidents!!! Very rude hotel manager. Food is ok but nothing special. Room was very small and dark, furniture was patched, the carpet in our room was stained.
We loved our short break in Zadar, it is such a lovely place to spend your holiday but we would never never recommend this hotel to anyone!!!!

My partner and I checked into this hotel after a week of camping, hoping to get w good night's sleep in a proper hotel room with a comfortable bed. Although my side of the bed was fine, my partner complained that the bed was uncomfortable and woke after a terrible night's sleep with a bad back. On closer inspection, we found that several of the slats on her side of the bed were missing or broken. Not only that, but the bathroom light switch was hanging out of the wall by its wires, which was hardly safe.
When we complained to the receptionist, she went away, spoke to the manager and on returning offered us a paltry 10% discount. We said that this was not good enough, and asked to speak with the manager. When we did however, he was rude and completely dismissive of our complaint, and it was clear that he didn't care in the slightest. He just kept repeating that the matresses were new, and apparently did not understand the need for a non-broken bedstead. I do not think that this was a language issue either, as he spoke perfectly good English.
The only positive thing I can find to say about this hotel is that the breakfast was good, with a freshly cooked omelette. Other than that, not a positive experience.

Response from NicoMoric, Manager at Hotel Villa Nico
Responded 23 Apr 2016
I would like to say just few words on this comment. Guests arrived in evening and went to their room. There was no complains until in the morning when they asked us to make their room invoice. All conversation was or "we are going to get discount " or "we are going to put this pictures on the net". We offered them 10% discount but comment was with sarcastic tone in the voice "this is not enough" . So we refused to be "blackmailed" and told them that they can put pics. on the net if they want. Bed stead was not broken, but 2-3 lamels felled out of their place. This happens when you put a lot of pressure on small part of bed (jumping on bed, etc) and takes 3 minutes to fix. Also the light switcher can be fixed in 2 minutes. They could ask for repair or another room when they enter the room in the evening but instead they have decided to ask for "discount" in the morning. We do care about our guests but our opinion is , if something is wrong, then is normal to complain when you see that some thing is wrong ant then we can do something about.

We booked our trip through Croatia earlier in the year and now received a sudden cancellation of our booked and confirmed room without any explanation. This is very disappointing and we strongly advise anyone not to book at this hotel, because you might not be able to stay in it. Avoid!

+1
Villa Nico feels like a family run hotel, far enough from the Zadar city center to enjoy a quiet vacation, but easily reachable by bus. A bus stop for line 8 (Diklo - Kolodvor) is 50 m away from the hotel and takes you to the Zadar city center in about 20 minutes.
The service is excellent, although our room started showing signs of wear (clogged shower drain, malfunctioning tap etc.). Very comfortable beds, friendly owner. Breakfast is ok but nothing out of the ordinary. Meals in the restaurant are fairly expensive, so I'd rather recommend to eat elsewhere for lunch or dinner. Recommendable budget friendly nearby alternatives are Papica, Gladne Oci and Mijo.

Burnt pizza, Carbonara tasted like muck and the waiter was incredibly rude. We also had a glass of white wine which may have been dishwater with a bit of alcohol. Prices were average for Croatia, but would never come back for food here.
AVOID.

Me and my colleagues were on the busiesnes trip. The company we work for has booked and paid two rooms for us. We announced that we would arrive later in the evening. They told us from the hotel that this was ok because they had a 24-hour duty.
When we came they told us that only one room was available, and we would either take or leave. Since we were late we were not able to look for another hotel, so we accepted it

Hello,
We have 3 kinds of rooms.
1. "BUDGET ROOMS"
This rooms are situated on ground floor. They have 1-4 separated and (or) bunk beds, that's why in room description they are named f.ex. "BUDGET TWIN ROOM". so there are 2-4 single beds, exactly like on room picture. If you book "BUDGET TWIN ROOM" , you have booked like description says "room on ground floor with separated beds. So if you after booking have special request for DOUBLE KING SIZE BET, and VIEW AT SEA, this is something what is not possible to have.
2. Also we have DOUBLE ROOM WITH SEA VIEW..
3. and DOUBLE ROOM WIT PARK WIEV.
However the "BUDGET ROOMS" have much lower price and in some cases guests are looking all of our rooms, bud when they book they click one with lowest price without checking which room they actualy booked.
Al pics. on our web site are actual and there is no difference between pics. and reality.
