The Historic Inns of Annapolis garners mixed reviews, with its central location and historic atmosphere frequently praised by guests. Reviewers love the blend of old-world charm with modern conveniences in the rooms, which are noted for their cleanliness and comfort.
While the staff's hospitality is often commended, some guests have experienced slow service, particularly with valet parking—a service that, along with noise issues, contributes to concerns over the hotel's value. Despite this, the overall tidiness and tranquil vibe of the hotel are consistent highlights for many travelers.

Detailed Reviews
This was our first stay. There are three properties included in this facility. We chose the Maryland Inn as it was the most centrally located. It was within walking distance to everything Annapolis has to offer downtown. Our king room was on the small size but very comfortable. Plenty of room for two. It was tastefully decorated and the bed was very comfortable with ample pillows. Our bathroom was a bit problematic as it was about 3x3 was a very very small shower. . I think this something you have to expect in historic buildings. They only offer maid service every three days but will bring you a new set of towels if you request it. Our rate included valet parking. The valet was very attentive and quickly parked and retrieved the car when we called for it. All in all a great stay!

Spacious, comfortable room in the heart of the historic area. Surprisingly quiet for being downtown, except for the AC which was a bit loud. Convenient paid parking ($20) is recommended as it's difficult to find a place otherwise.

Stayed at the Maryland Inn. GPS takes yo to Gov Calvert House where you check in...we used the valet parking (extra cost) so the valet drove us in our car to The Maryland Inn (about a 2mi drive, 6 min walk) Maryland Inn is a beautiful historic hotel. Room was clean, property was well kept. Room was functional, bathroom was small. Very disappointed that the pub was not open on Sunday night. Not really a problem since there are endless number of bars and restaurants in walking distance. Would recommend this hotel. CON: No water pressure at all. Everything else was wonderful.

I rarely write online reviews, but felt the need to do so in this instance, This review is not being written in a mean-spirited way, but honestly so others can see the experience that I had prior to booking here.
The room was clean, but in need of repair. This morning, as I stepped into the bathroom, a large tile came loose from the floor, almost causing me to trip. The electrical outlets on the desk and end tables worked sometime and sometime not. The coffee maker didn’t work. The iron had a broken electrical cord and was very difficult to use.
Room service did not replenish full suite of towels, water, etc.; each day they forgot to replace some item. One day, room service was still cleaning adjacent rooms and the hallway at 5pm, which resulted in doors being loudly slammed repeatedly by the service staff, to the point myself and others were peeking out of their room doors to see what was going on.
Of special note, the WiFi connection is poor and reminded me of the old dial-up days of the late 1990’s. A friend in another room and I finally gave up trying to get any work emails done on our computers, due to the poor and extremely slow connection. Worst WiFi connection I’ve ever had in any hotel...ever.
Perhaps my experience was unique, but it was subpar and I’d not stay here again.

I have wanted to stay here at the Maryland Inn for 40+ years - finally got my chance last week. Two nights, FRI and SAT. Positives: location, great valet service from Alex, quiet comfortable room. Negatives: for $235 a night BEFORE all the taxes and fees, you would expect some really nice towels and washcloths - well no. And only one washcloth. No housekeeping service (knew in advance from a sign/posting), but at least they could have provided fresh towels. Room was small (we had a king bed), bathroom very small (NYC apartment small).

Dear RonT540 thank you for your feedback. We are having trouble getting supplies that are of quality, therefore we are providing what we can get, my apologies. We can do housekeeping service upon request as were still very short staffed in our housekeeping department. As for the room, the Robert Johnson and Calvert have the larger rooms. We appreciate you staying with us and hope you give us another chance. Respectfully, Daryl Strayer, GM

Returned home this weekend with my wife we were celebrating our 60th birthday and looking forward to staying in this historic downtown location, we stayed at the Maryland house building.
You have to check in at the main building we used the valet for the car ($35 a day) then have to take a small shuttle to the Maryland house location with your luggage it was very inconvenient.
Our room was very noisy due to being on the back side of the building and the traffic downtown until 200 am . I called asked front desk to see of we could move to another room, they never got back to us. "told me we will work on it"
Room 1301 the floor was tilted and felt like it was going to collapse, the bed had a large hole in the right side of the mattress and with the angle of the floor it was very uncomfortable.
Very small bathrooms, there was coffee maker in room which I do not like to use but there were no creamers and no coffee in the lobby.
I went to Starbucks down the street 2 days in a row,
We checked out on Monday called valet at 700 am since we had a 5 hour drive home did not get our car for 1 hour.
When we were waiting for our car along with other guests they conveyed the same thoughts.
You would think for the money they are charging you would have a better experience.

We stayed with the Historic Inns years ago, stayed at the Governor Calvert house and had a good experience. However, we booked a “Wellness” room at the Robert Johnson house this time around and had a horrible experience.
We found that there were these small clear “pebbles” all over the carpet but could only feel them once our bare feet felt them. This finding told us that the room was not swept and possibly cleaned before our stay. We had to call to have someone come and vacuum.
There were small beard hairs all over the sink and nearby window sill. I have photos of these hairs.
After getting a shower, we noticed that our bath towels were very small and thin (not hand towels) which we thought wasn’t very good. When we asked for new towels, we finally received thicker and larger bath towels. What was that about?
The air vent blows right onto the bed so that you are constantly being hit during the night.
The wifi is very slow so don’t expect to be able to do much with technology.
The duvet cover had wear on it and didn’t look very fresh.
The wallpaper was peaking in one area.
The desk and window sills were not dusted. We basically cleaned the room for them.
Overall, the hotel rooms appear to be getting dated and not well kept. It was a big downgrade since our last stay. Our room must have been missed for cleaning. The front desk person was very friendly.
I wish that it would have been a better stay because I like historic buildings, but it was a disappointment.

The Inn has 3 separate buildings. I stayed in the Robert Johnson House, where the internet service varied from nonexistant to really, really slow. The fan for the air conditioner is very loud, and it cycles on and off. It does have a great location, and the off-peak room rates reflect that it is not a five-star hotel. The parking is quite expensive, at $32 per day.

We chose to stay at the Maryland Inn during our first visit to Annapolis because we love old homes and history. The location was great, within walking distance to many shops, restaurants and bars, room was clean and comfortable and the building had lots of charm. The price was very reasonable and staff very friendly. We used the valet parking so we didn’t have to worry about our car being publicly parked overnight with the craziness of 2020 “peaceful protests”. Rudi and his valet team took great care of us and our car. They were very quick and attentive. We would definitely stay at Historic Inns again.
Attached is a photo from the Maryland Inn porch where we enjoyed our morning coffee.

The Inns were charming and nicely decorated. The beds were comfortable. The shower was very difficult to turn on.. There was a sign with instructions, so we know we aren’t the only ones who had the problem. Checking in at one location and staying at another was made easy by the valet staff who were most helpful and accommodating. Checking out, we had to carry our bags down the stairs and wait outside for our car. The weather was pleasant, so waiting wasn’t a problem for us, and we purposely took in only what we needed so we were able to manage our bags. Being there for just one night, however, it wasn’t the most convenient. The staff were extremely accommodating, but they were all based at another location. Overall, we had a very pleasant stay and were within easy walking distance of restaurants and attractions.

Hello -- We have many suites throughout each of our locations -- everything from one bedroom to two bedrooms and even a multi-level townhouse room type in the Robert Johnson House.
Respectfully,

General Manager
Historic Inns of Annapolis
There are actually 3 properties. We stayed at the Governor’s Inn. There is an elevator, and the friendly staff could certainly advise about the other properties. It is opposite the State Capitol and easy access to the watercolor.
Rooms are nicer at Calvert House but only if you ask for one away from the wing that the wedding receptions are in. The rooms that overlook that wing get a lot of the noise. Maryland Inn is on the end of Main Street and has its own restaurant and coffe shop, so it has one advantage. The disadvantage is near-constant traffic noise, which you dont have at either of the other buildings. Calvert House also has a restaurant/bar immediately next door. Hope you enjoy Annapolis.
I see someone already answered, if you have any other questions let us know, thanks!
