We stayed at the Flag House Inn in September of 2022, shortly after the new ownership group took over, and this property is a gem! They have updated the previously out-of-style furnishings with tasteful options that are still classic in style. The professionalism exhibited by the staff is world-class. I cannot wait to visit the Flag House Inn again very soon!
First; the location!!! Literally right in the MIDDLE of everything historical and fun in Annapolis. The entrance to the Naval Academy is right across the street! The harbor and many many restaurants are a block (walking) away. What more can you ask? :) Second; the Inn was perfection...:) Our room was lovely and large and looked out into the street (I love to see the action) and still quiet. The breakfast was delicious and Orlando and I loved loved the 'baked goodie'. Carmel is an awesome baker and Marty is an excellent cook (think poached egg and sausage) - yum. The bed was comfortable and soft. Marty helped us with parking :) and directed us to all of the spots we wanted to see; the golf cart tour of the city was excellent and I would do that again and such a bargain! The Naval Academy also offers a walking tour AND a golf cart tour (really unadvertised) that shows you more of the layout of the academy. So much fun! Marty and Carmel were so gracious and answered all of our questions so could i please have the recipe for that last breakfast/coffee cake with the peaches?? Yum…
Apparently the property changed hands and the web page was not updated. We booked based on reviews of the previous owners. When we arrived, the property was undergoing some construction , the former owners were gone and the room was stark and uninviting. No bedside tables, no phone and no clock. NO local TV channels. 2 chairs and a lamp plus the bed. False advertising as a recent check of the webpage still showed the old rooms/images. Unfortunately had to leave 1 day early due to family emergency- no breakfast was available ( table was set but no food anywhere). Would not refund any amount- gave us a credit but we wont go back. Very disappointing as this was our anniversary weekend. Hotel did not respond to email about the false advertising/conditions
Difficult to rate this lodging. The new owners are trying to turn it into a luxury hotel. Everything that made it a traditional bed and breakfast is gone. But if you want an upscale, predictable room in a good location, this may be fine for you. What is gone: fabulous breakfasts, baked goods, people who know the area, local owner collections of the area ( library, art and decor local to the area) , regular TV. What is new: a serviceable breakfast (the cook is very nice, and it’s certainly better than the chain hotels); fashionable black/off white anonymous furniture, you tube tv only (spotty internet when we were trying to stream our programs; we eventually gave up), multiple friendly guys in suits who carry your luggage upstairs. They are trying the “upscale mode where everyone has a important sounding title. Everyone also works at the owners other location a block away (the Prince). They plan to buy up other b and bs and “convert” them. It’s depressing. What is the same: fabulous location in a residential neighborhood, nice front porch with homey swing, flowers and benches (until “improved”), free parking (although this means they take your keys and wedge the car into the back of the house). This isn’t a problem mostly but it does mean that you have to plan ahead and tell them way in advance if you want your car. The rooms are up narrow stairs so you do need to be mobile. Most are on the third floor (2.5 flights of stairs), but there is a second floor suite (1.5 flights), and a room over a garage in the back. Last note is that they may be jacking the rates. The other place, The Prince, is $500 a night ( I couldn’t even find the price here). It was $250 for the B and B and I am thinking those days may be over. There are certainly things they will clean up with time - confusion about the shared fridge and other guest kitchen amenities, the confusion about how to run a faux B and B, security issues (found my car left unlocked several times, and the back door was left unlocked late one night -would I lock someone out? construction disruptions and so on.…
We recently stayed at the Flag House Inn in Annapolis, MD. The B&B was located in an excellent location close to water activities, restaurants, and bars. The staff was outstanding and went out of their way to ensure we had all that we needed during our stay. I would highly recommend this B&B for anyone wanting to stay in Annapolis.
The inn was exceptional! We loved the location, accommodations, and the delicious breakfast! The owners were wonderful and really made our stay special. It is in the heart of Annapolis and a short walk to everything. I highly recommend it!
All I need to say is that it was my fifth time staying at the Flag House Inn! Such a great place to stay- clean and beautiful rooms, amazing breakfasts, inn keepers that seem more like family. Location and parking are a definite plus. I’m sure a sixth visit will happen.
This was our first visit to Annapolis. Staying at the Flag House Inn was the absolute perfect choice! The Inn’s location was ideal. The accommodations were well appointed and clean. Our breakfasts were excellent! Points to Marty for the plating!! Prior to arrival we were sent suggestions for Things To Do- Dining- etc. We followed several of the recommendations and they were spot on! Marty and Carmel are the perfect hosts and I’m sure we will be back soon!!!
Great place and great location to stay, across from Naval Academy. Room very clean and beautiful decorated. The staff was helpful and friendly to explain what to do and where to go. Perfect place weekend getaway!
The Inn was wonderfully located, and our hosts made sure we had everything needed for a great mini vacation. The pre trip communication was outstanding. Our room was spacious, well equipped, and very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious each morning; all dietary needs were graciously met. The innkeepers made terrific suggestions for daytime activities and evening meals. We’re looking forward to returning.
