InterContinental San Salvador - Metrocentro Mall
My husband and I stayed here November 2021 for our anniversary. The hotel is in a perfect location with direct access to the Metrocentro Mall and many other things to do in this amazing city. The staff and front desk were extremely courteous and helpful. The hotel was extremely clean and very equipped with social distancing signage and hand sanitizer stations throughout the hotel.
Room: My husband and I are InterContinental Ambassadors, so we received a guaranteed upgrade. The room itself had a wonderful view of the city and the Metrocentro Mall. It still remained super quiet in spite of the close proximity to the shopping centers. The room was clean, and the bed and pillows were very comfortable. The bathroom was very modern, and the shower/tub had great water pressure. My only complaint was that the water temperature often varied from lukewarm to hot depending on the time of day.
Onsite Dinning: The onsite restaurants were okay for last minute dinning, but nothing was memorable considering the price. During our stay, we dined at the Faisca do Brasil and Picasso. The other restaurant Nau lounge was closed during our stay. Again, if you are looking for better fine-dining options, try Brutto El Salvador, La Gastroteca, or La Melangerie. In addition, do not be afraid to dine at some of the delicious local restaurants in the city center.
Pool/Gym/Spa: The pool and gym were both small but workable and the spa services were magnificent and really great for the value. My masseuse was magnificent, and the spa treatments were PERFECT! Just make sure you book your treatments upon arrival because spa slots fill up quickly.
Overall, the hotel made our stay in San Salvador extremely comfortable. I do believe that while some improvements to the dining options can be made, the hotel overall is quite solid and the hotel’s location cannot be beat. My husband and I would definitely stay here again.

I spent four nights here during a conference and was very happy with my stay. The staff is incredibly helpful and friendly. The room was clean and had everything necessary (coffee machine, iron, desk, blackout curtains, blow-dryer etc.). The bed was a bit too soft for my taste but comfy). Internet worked impeccably, including for video calls. Many reviews mention that there's an issue with the windows being foggy - I noticed that but it didn't bother me. I had a room opposite the elevator and it was quite noisy in the mornings but since I had to get up early all days it didn't really bother me either. The breakfast is plentiful - lots of fruit, cereals, pastries, bread, egg options, pancake station, just not that many tea options. The front desk organized a driver and guide for me to do a little tour to the Oscar Romero sites on my last day and I could not have been happier with the guide, he was amazing. There's a small pool next to the gym and spa, I got a massage but it was just ok. You can walk across the street at any time on the walkway and go to the Metrocentro mall which has everything you need - restaurants, supermarket, pharmacies, a lovely shop with high quality souvenirs and lots of other shops, that was really convenient. Overall, I was very happy with this hotel as a base for a work trip.

The intercontinental is supposed to be one of the better ones in the city but I was underwhelmed. The outside and lobby look promising but the rooms are outdated, cracks on ceilings, mini fridge does not cool properly, shower area and windows needs deeper cleaning. I was taken aback by the front desk staff their demeanor was dismissive/bored not friendly at all. The restaurant picasso/ NAU staff was very friendly and accommodating and food was good decently priced. But based on service and outdated rooms I would not recommend.

This is my first visit to El Salvador and infact to any Central American country. Stayed in village hotel before moving into this city hotel. Due to huge cultural difference I was not expecting few obvious facilities which are there in other hotels in different parts of the world.
But this hotel is disappointing in so many ways. You will get luke warm water in shower, no concierge ( of course there is a big board which says concierge), locker didn’t work, website says weekend offer breakfast free when we checked in we understood that breakfast is free for weekend only not other days…it could be bad communication but I felt cheated.
Room was good, slept well all days. Internet works fine. Breakfast was fine. They make good cheese omelettes. Didn’t try any ofn their restaurants so can’t comment.

Hello Shilpach2015, Thank you for choosing to stay at our hotel and for sharing your experience. While I am glad you appreciate our rooms, internet connection, breakfast, and you had a quality sleep during your stay, your comment about the shower's water temperature, concierge, locker, website's information about the weekend free breakfast has caught my attention. What you described is definitely not the kind of experience we want any of our guests to have. We strive to offer the type of hospitality our guests value most where the essentials are done exceptionally well, but that did not happen on your visit. I am sorry for the letdown. I've shared your feedback with our management team, and I trust that they will use this as a reference to help us further improve the quality of our guests' experience. I hope to get another chance to host your next visit as we promise to make the value of your experience worth it for all the right reasons. Yours in hospitality, Jeraldine R. Case Manager IHG Service

My wife and I spent 2 nights at the intercontinental in San Salvador. We are currently travelling through Central America over 5 months and decided to stay somewhere a little bit more expensive in San Salvador due to safety concerns. The intercontinental was perfect for this. There was good security on site. The wifi worked well. The bed was large and comfortable. The room was clean and well equipped with air conditioning, TV, etc. Staff were friendly. On site dining options were appreciated. There was a metro central hall directly across from our room, as well as a large highway but the double glazed windows meant we didnt hear any noise at all. The gym facility was good, although they would benefit from getting a leg press and lateral pull down machine. We were able to get a local tour company to pick us up from this hotel and take us around the city with door to door service.
Overall we had a wonderful stay and were sad to leave.

Rough around the edges but still a very pleasant stay. Rooms were clean, well appointed and had an excellent view of the mountains. The a/c worked great, shower and water pressure in good condition. Slept like a baby in the king size bed. Had an incredible massage in their spa. Breakfast was plentiful, I was always greeted by my name and with a smile by Lucy and Brenda lovely young ladies who made my morning. I would like to recognize Raphael the door usher who helped me with transportation, he was so kind and courteous as a solo female traveler I felt cared for. Highly recommend this hotel in San Salvador.

Had two nights here at the end of our trip to El Salvador. Great location for accessing the Mall across the road. The room was clean and well appointed. Staff were professional and happy to assist with any queries. Good mix of local and international dishes at the breakfast buffet. Used the gym and the pool, both of which were fine. The hotel arranged a cab to take us to the airport (USD30), who was right on time for an 0500 departure. Overall, would recommend.

We chose this hotel as it looked comfortable and secure, which it was. So mission accomplished on one level. But:
1. There is a real issue with fogged windows (think they've been cleaned with a chemical that won't come off). Our room had an amazing view of a volcano, just we couldn't see it. We changed rooms but the second room was the same.
2. The service, especially at the front desk, was unfriendly and slow. There were lots of issues, but as a starting point, it may be an idea to give the staff some diversity training so they don't repeatedly question a gay couple seeking to share a room at check-in ("You meant to book two rooms right?", "But this room has just one bed" etc).

This was a very good stay and now I've actually stayed at every InterContinental hotel in Central America except for the one in Costa Rica. Overall, this InterContinental location is similar to the other ones in the region in that it is a comfortable oasis in the middle of a hot, busy, sometimes chaotic city. The hotel itself structurally is older but overall pretty well-maintained. Rooms showed signs of some updates in the bathroom (although water leaked out from the shower all over the floor repeatedly.) The hotel room was very, very clean (so important!) with an excellent bed which is consistent across the region's InterContinental hotels--yeah--along with great quality towels. Air conditioning, while old and pretty noisy, was very effective which is so important in a place that's as hot as this! No complaints there. Windows do a great job blocking out the noise from the busy street outside. Location is also good.
In terms of areas that caused it to lose a star--the employees at the front desk are generally not very friendly. They're usually busy talking to each other and almost never would say hello, smile, or barely even look at you when you walk by them. (Even if you have been there for several days and its the same agents every day at the front desk, so they probably recognize you.) Not sure why they can't at least smile--who is training them? Wasn't really impressed with the dining choices--definitely not as good as the options at the Managua InterContinental hotel location. The hotel also didn't seem to be very interested in following through on benefits for IHG loyalty members--for example, as an Platinum Ambassador with InterContinental you're supposed to get a 4:00 pm check-out. I had to ask for it instead of it being offered (or even mentioned) and then when I did they didn't seem too familiar with the process of how to do it. They also never offered the 600 "welcome gift" points or mentioned the $20 credit that comes along with a stay if you have Ambassador status. (I of course did bring that up as I wasn't going to lose out on $20 which would have happened if I hadn't said something.)
So overall a strong hotel, definitely one of the best--if not the best--in the city, but not as good as some of the other InterContinental choices in the region specifically the InterContinental in Managua or Tegucigalpa. My main recommendation for the hotel is to train the employees, especially at the front desk, to be a bit more pleasant and friendly to their clients. (Rather than just chatting with each other when guests are walking by.)
