A handy enough location to restaurants etc but a little way uphill from the centre of town (not that you would probably want to be staying in the actual centre of SS anyway!). The staff are very friendly and the rooms are kept very clean (with a complimentary bottle of water each day) but the beds are a bit hard. The bathrooms are good but shower only. Free WiFi. No frills but everything you need.

This is a solid, three-star, well-kept hotel about the same distance from Hospital Benjamin Bloom and the University as the hotels in the Zona Rosa. We were there for 7 nights, (rarely in the day...so cannot comment on noise), and never had a complaint. The breakfasts were made to order from a small menu and serving started at 6:30 am. They would fix something in the evening if the guests ordered in advance. Rooms were basic with a small private bathroom (w shower); a refrigerator could be brought in. There was a business area; but we had laptops and the connection to their secure wifi was good. The staff was always pleasant, available, and accommodating; security was 24 hours. There was a small work out room and unheated pool. An ATM and pharmacy were within a block; chain restaurants were within walking distance -- about 3 blocks away -- we (4 adults) walked at night twice. Also within about 3 blocks was a small park which we were told was good for a small run in daylight (no dogs allowed), but we were back too late to try it out. We used the hotel driver to and from the airport, and sometimes to and from the hospital; he was very reliable.

Old hotel. Wife is allergic to mold and we moved to 4 different rooms but had to leave. Worst part is the hotel wouldn't even partially refund our $891 charge. Do not stay here if you don't like old hotels

I stayed in this Hotel for nine days. The location is good, across from “Hospital de la Mujer” It was a wonderful experience. Room was cleaned daily as it suppose to be, towels were very clean and changed daily (including the ones not used) every body was helpful during my stay. We have a buffet breakfast (changing daily) with traditional food from El Salvador. Sundays the breakfast is “a la carte”. Free coffee and tea is available any time.
I don’t understand the comments made by “ggm2686”, look like we where in two different hotels. By the way, every security guard in El Salvador carries a shotgun, you can see them at restaurants, stores, churches, banks, supermarkets, theaters, etc, etc.
I recommend this hotel to everybody. I saw, families, couples, businessmen and I didn’t noticed any complain during my stay.

I have come to San Salvador for medical check up. The hospital made the arrangement for me. From day one (I stayed 5 days) Never had hot water, asked for one light bulb to be replaced, it took 2 days!! Change rooms, still not hot water, even worse now, the sheets were never change from previous people using the room, they placed used soaps in the bathroom, towels were so old and dirty, the staff lie to you, make you believe that they are in the process to fix things, it never happens. When complained, their excuse was, "we are not 5 star hotel" Besides, they asked me to leave!!!! just because i was complaining of the treatment. For everything they send out a guy who has a loaded shotgun!! STAY AWAY FROM THIS RAT HOLE!!

I stayed at Hotel Marela 7 nights. Here are the highlights:
1- Great customer service: the staff is friendly and cares. Special thanks to Fatima who went out of her way to provide me with all I needed and to the cleaning Staff because they always did an excellent job, with great attention to detail.
2- Great firm bed. The hotel made a smart choice when they decided to buy good quality beds, there is nothing worse than to stay in a hotel and find soft beds
3- My room was clean and it remained that way during my stay.
4- The breakfast buffet was delicious. They also tried to vary the offerings so that customers that stayed a few days wouldn't get bored. They also can accommodate requests. One morning I saw they had omelets in the buffet but I couldn't eat any because they had cheese (I'm lactose intolerant). All I had to do is mention it to the staff and they made me an omelet with whatever I wanted. I also enjoyed the fresh fruit juices (specially the watermelon) offered during breakfast.
5- Safe neighborhood, and the hotel does take measures to keep their customers safe

6 nights at the Hotel Marela was a pleasure. Stay are friendly and helpful to a learning Spanish speaker. Rooms are up to date; and bathroom facilities better than most in my experience in El Salvador. Daily cleaning was great. Meals in the restaurant were tasty and hot. Enjoyed pool side although the water was surprisingly cool! I would definitely recommend it to others.

We stayed here for 3 nights for a conference nearby at CIFCO. The room was fine and the staff helpful for off site services and directions. The breakfast was not anything to look forward to and we ate elsewhere for other meals. During our stay another traveler had his room broken into and his Ipad stolen. The pool is not heated so in January it was a little cool. The location was good for us and for most north american style services which are on that side of the city.
