I stayed 3 nights in the so called double standard room. My room was on the 6th floor overlooking the street. I enjoyed my stay at Own Montevideo. The room had a nice modern setup with a plenty of storage space, switches/power outlets in all the right places, many lighting fixtures. I could open windows and get a fresh air. The A/C worked fine. Wi-Fi was fine as well.
The bathroom was of a decent size, with the separation between the sink and the toilet/shower. There was a window next to the bathroom sink, with a plenty of light coming in.
Everything was in decent shape and looked clean. I found the small shelf was missing in the shower but it didn’t bother me much.
Noise level was average. Nothing super loud that bothered me.
The breakfast was adequate, with friendly personnel. One thing to know is that you have to specifically ask for coffee/tea and it will be brought to you. Everyone from the staff was very friendly and helpful.
The hotel is conveniently located. I walked to Pocitos/Montevideo sign and back. Everything is a short Uber ride away, with a plenty of Uber cars available. Uber ride to Buquebus terminal for direct ferry to BA at the morning took around 15 minutes.
If you arrive at MVD airport without a lot of luggage, you can take DM1 bus at the front of the terminal (84 pesos as of November 2022), get off at the last stop and walk ahead for 2 minutes and you are right there at the hotel door. Very convenient.
All in all, everything was good, as it seems like everything else in Montevideo. I enjoyed my stay at this hotel and am giving it 5 stars review. I certainly recommend it.

The hotel itself, is small and tucked away on a residential street but only minutes away from the promenade, and from nice restaurants and wine bars.
The staff were all very helpful and breakfast was fresh and more than adequate, taken in the adjoined cafe.
The only reason for the 4 rather than 5 stars is out of the hotel's control. During our stay there was VERY noisy building works on the plot adjacent to the hotel. This will pass within a few weeks (we were there mid-February) and so wouldn't be an issue, but did take the edge off our stay, with them starting at 7am and finishing at 6pm - unfortunate for the hotel itself.

Things I learned in my short stay in Uruguay

1. Prices are very reasonable here and the Canadian dollar is 20-1 so dinner and clothes are a deal.

2. They have a lot of dogs but I never saw a single cat. That's a bit disturbing as you'll always see one or two somewhere

3. They pay very little attention to traffic laws here. Stopping at stop signs is optional, lane markings and driving in them is optional and speed limits why even bother they seem to just be a guide line. The funny thing is, as much as I drove here I never felt unsafe or at risk like I do at home...makes you wonder doesn't it.

4. Puente Del Este' is a mini-Rio

5. Pot is legal sort of. I chatted with the owner of a grow shop and he's says it is but it's not. Medical like oil is legal as in canada but possession for recreational use isn't. You can grow 6 plants as long as you belong to a grow club that has a minimum of 15 people all growing 6 plants and you have a commercial facility and employ a full time grower who btw can't be a member of the club....I think maybe the guy who made this law was high.

6. Most fun way to get to Uruguay from Buenos Aires is the ferry and for $20us extra you get put in first class.

7. Everybody here walks around with Matte'. They have special thermoses and cups with straws for it. The cups and the straws are extremely elaborate. I have no idea what it is or why the love it so (no I didn't try it or ask)

8. Uruguay has a population of 3.4 million and are heavily taxed (sound like anybody you know) but as a tourist I'm 100% tax free. No hotel taxes, no tax on food or wine and none on shopping.

9. They have Massage Parlours, Whiskerias (bars where you can get girls to take home at a cost) and Brothels and it's 100% legal (no I didn't but thanks for asking)

Uruguay is a great place but small, I mean really small it's stuffed between Argentina and Brazil and you can drive across in about four hours. It has charm and the people are friendly and they smile a lot. The food rivals its neighbours and in some cases (they can cook a steak here) better. Wine is plentiful and inexpensive and with the exchange rate even better.
If you're planning on a South American tour it's worth the time to visit.

Stayed here for 4 nights and I enjoyed the quiet vibe of the neighborhood and the proximity to the shopping center. Hotel staff is friendly. We had trouble with the room and moved a few times (1st smelled like smoke and air freshener, 2nd the AC kept turning off by itself). Breakfast is simple and apparently they can serve eggs but it is not listed anywhere. Cleaning of the rooms is not the best and the glass wall shower is a pain in the behind (water everywhere!!!).

One thing I never understand is why hotels doNt use hoovers instead of a brush. Rooms are left clean but dusty and hairs from previous guests scatter the floors. The bathrooms are clean and modern but generally the hotel is dilapidated and needs fixing up. The pool is freezing (common here) but no pool staff for drinks even though there is a bar and no towels when you get out. a good location for some restaurants but wouldnt stay again or recommend

We were among the first guests in this stylish but cosy hotel. Modern but feel-good interior with some local deco details. From the room on 8th floor we had an amazing view over the city and the sea. Location is central but very quiet at night. Only a few steps to the Rambla, golf, parks, shopping mall and not far away from Pocitos, Ciudad Vieja and the port. The staff was super helpful, friendly and made us feel at home. Don't miss the breakfast (good coffee, home made cakes, fresh orange juice...).

It is our second time at this facility and impression was that they did not keep a good work with maintenance.
Location is excellent and it was the main reason we decided to return to this hotel. Room is big and very clean. Our bathroom definitely needed renovation.
Very nice staff.
They need to prevent their accommodations from going old too fast. The hotel is new so conditions are still good, but they need to be careful with that.
Breakfast is still good but bread and other options seemed not so fresh/new.

We stayed here for four nights while visiting Montevideo and loved it! Rather than staying in the city centre, we chose to stay in the residential neighbourhood of Punta Carretas and it was a good choice. The bus number DM1 goes from the international airport and stops at the Punta Carretas Shopping Centre, which is only around 200m from the Hotel, so an easy walk down a gentle slope. Public buses can be caught from just round the corner and are frequent and cheap. We received a warm reception from Diego, who was incredibly helpful and informative throughout our stay. We had booked a room on the top floor, which had a double balcony, one with 2 x sun loungers and the other with 2 x chairs and a table. On opening the curtains on the first morning I was surprised and delighted to see two Peregrine Falcons perched on the glass balustrade! The good sized room was well appointed and had a very comfortable bed. As others have said, the only downside is that the shower opens on to the toilet area with nothing to stop the water, which is very annoying. That aside, everything else was perfect; breakfast was very good with quality orange juice, scrambled eggs or omelettes and a wide variety of baked goods, meats and cheeses, fresh fruit, yoghurts, etc. There are some excellent restaurants within easy walking distance from the hotel, as well as a large supermarket, launderette and shopping mall. The riverfront is a five minute walk away. It does take around 25 minutes to reach the old city centre by bus but that was not a problem for us. We loved our stay here, all of the staff were friendly and helpful and we would stay again if returning to this charming capital city.

Mr M and I took a taxi from Montevideo bus station to the this new hotel. The driver had no idea where it was as it was new and we only made it to the junction at the top of the street. Approximately 20 mins drive and we were in Montevideo's very own mini Miami, brand new apartment blocks and high rise hotels along the coast East of the old town peninsular. I get it, it's trying really hard to be high end, all golf club and active wear. Such a contrast to the abandoned splendour of the Old Town, majestic, colonial grandeur complete with perfect stained glass windows and a myriad of jaw dropping architecture, all decaying. Pigeons fly from behind curious giant shutters and I wonder if inside Ms Haversham sits sewing lace and drinking wine from dusty goblets.... so back to mini Miami.
Own is a super modern, brand new, boutique ish hotel. Martin on the front desk at Own was fantastic, warm, friendly, helpful but the other staff have a sort of sullen teenage girl vibe, chewing gum, eyes roll at general requests, even at breakfast. The room was large, airy, clean and had a full wall, picture window facing..... well, a wall! Yes they had robes, one missing a belt though and yes they had a mini bar etc but the electricity kept cutting out, the door keys were faulty, we had to call down every day to have the trip switch fixed up. Housekeeping didn't replace our shower gel (I requested more from the desk but still had to chase the housekeeper), 2 herbal tea bags for 3 nights (no more we were told, go to restaurant), loo roll ran out and there was no handle on the bathroom door (replaced on request), a perfectly flat, fancy glass door too! Meaning I got stuck in there til Mr M rescued me. I had to ask them to please fit a handle.
The glass walled shower brings me to my "Tales Of The Unexpected" title. I imagine a man is behind the design/concept because it's all giant bed, champagne in the fridge and a "sexy see through wall". I am not bothered about having a translucent wall to the shower/loo, in fact it means you can't put the light on to use the bathroom at night because it wakes your partner. It's better to take care of the small details, all the hotels we love, are not as aspirational as this but the love, care, welcome and attention to detail far outshines, champagne in the fridge and a glass walled shower.
Fancy glass loo door - no handle, robe - no belt, electronic keys - didn't work, coffee at breakfast - no teaspoon, bathroom sundries - not replaced each day when finished. Picture window - no view. Tiny pool - not like image online, pool silly small square shape, you can't swim in it and it opens at 10am. I like a swim before breakfast.
Needs a woman's touch across the whole place and staff training for all staff. They all seemed, nervous and inexperienced. It wasn't awful, it was clean and comfortable with expensive fixtures and fittings but if you are going for 5 stars there are areas for improvement.

Finally we inquired on Saturday about laundry as Monday morning we were moving on and they said you can have it done in a day. We took our much needed laundry down and the girl chewing gum on the desk said "no laundry today go to the shopping mall". I said, "Five star?", she nodded, we set off up the road in the midday sun with a bag of dirty laundry.........

Poor jolly Martin among grumpy, unhelpful girls.... Own up Own, not good enough sadly and sort out the electrics...... so much potential, great bed and shower, smelled amazing too, such silly details to fail on. Seriously, not being able to offer travellers a laundry service and sending us to a closed launderette, electrics failing daily, nearly made me give this only one star! 😔😔

Dear Foxy M, Many thanks for choosing Own Montevideo for your recent visit to our city. And thank you very much as well for sharing your opinion regarding your experience as our guests. We are glad to know that you enjoyed our ideal location and that you liked the style of our boutique hotel, the ample room and bed, the shower and over overall cleanliness and comfort. We are also much pleased to learn that Martin was so helpful and friendly. It is a big disappointment for us, though, not having met your expectations regarding the other issues you brought to our attention. Please accept our sincere apologies for all these details, such as the inconsistencies in replenishing room amenities, the electricity cuts and the missing handle on the shower door. All these have been duly solved. On the other hand what we regret the most is the shortcomings in our staff’s attitude or helpfulness. We take that very seriously; we have already looked into your various inputs and addressed them constructively with our whole team. Foxy M, again thank you for your comments as they will certainly help us to improve and keep working to offer a courteous and professional service to all our guests. We would very much appreciate welcoming you back at Own Montevideo in the near future as well as at our other Own hotels in Buenos Aires, Argentina, thus granting us the opportunity of mending your overall image our service and facilities. Please feel free to contact me directly when planning a new trip to our area, as I will be delighted to personally assist you with hotel reservations at any our Hotels. A modern and very stylish hotel in the safe Punta Carretas area.

Nearby shopping centre and plenty of restaurants within walking distance, as well as local beach within reach. Oceanside Boulevard just 350 yards away, perfect for strolls along the coast and promenade and for watching the setting sun.

The pool and terrace are perfect for cooling off, the breakfasts offer an excellent selection and choice with made to order eggs or requests.

Service levels at OWN Montevideo were above expectations, and staff showed real care towards guests.
