We booked for a double bedroom. It was great because along with a Double bedroom, we were also given the single bedroom just on the opposite side where the said room is located. It was clean and charming. Love the spacious Bathroom. The room is quite small but it's alright. The staff are really friendly and very helpful. They assisted us thoroughly, explaining extensively about the facilities of the hotel, even teaching us how to operate the television which I found really cute :)
The location is excellent, just 2 minutes walking distance to the Plaza Independencia. Just 10-15 minutes walk to the market too, around the area there are various restaurants. Very convenient.
We have a small balcony, the view is not too bad, you can see the view of the dome of the Church. However, I found this so different from the photos they have in their website. The photo they had on the website are quite misleading, makes you think you can view the whole old town, but in reality, it is not. You can only view the roof and the dome of the church but below are houses and apartments blocking the actual view of the old town. So if you book a room that has no balcony, don't worry because you are not missing anything.

Anyway, what really put us off is the Breakfast, only cake and coffee. The room where the breakfast was served is only in a very small room. just one table and a couple of chairs. I am not really very sensitive when it comes to breakfast, I can eat anything, but this one is on a different level of disappointment. Anyway, The reason I give them 4 stars is because of the Friendly staff and the location.

Overall experience is great.

My husband and I had a great experience here during our honeymoon. The staff are so sweet and helpful, and even though they speak limited/no English we were able to communicate fine. Our room had high ceilings, antique furniture, and a small balcony, and we loved the old-fashioned elevator. Coffee & sweet bread is included in the morning. The only downside was that our room was right next to the reception so we could hear people talking at the front desk, and our room faced the back courtyard which sometimes was loud at night— but i think this could be avoided by getting a room on the 2nd floor or above facing the street.

Very old hotel very well located in the old city and near the pedestrian street, Sarandí. Not far from the Buquebus terminal, the carneval Museum, Cathedral, Museo Gurevich. The room I had was tiny but I was only there to sleep. It has a TV, refrigerator, safety deposit box in the room and very good AC, which you mostly don’t need. I had a little balcony facing the back so I got a lovely cross breeze. The breakfast is small but since there is a fridge, I bought some yogurt to add to the croissant and tea/coffee they provided. The staff is very nice but has minimal English. Fantastic value in terms of cost. The bathroom is pretty new although the shower needed some maintenance.

This is an early 20th century hotel that has been tastefully renovated to keep its original character. The staff were friendly and helpful, the room clean and well equipped. The price of the room was extraordinarily modest. A great choice for a stay in downtown Montevideo.

A lovely old school hotel in an excellent location.

Try to get room 66 [or 67] which has a balcony with views over the city and the port.

Staff displayed variable ability or willingness to be helpful-e.g. in providing information like bus timetables [old school doesn’t mean not being able to use the internet].

Early check out time of 10.00 another negative point but I would definitely stay there again.

Excellent location in Old Town. GREAT shower. Lovely staff. Old building. Great gated elevator. You need to be able to climb steps to stay here. Rooms are old. Towels are thin. But price is right. Breakfast of hot drink and rolls is included.

It is good, clean and in the middle of the center area. You can walk everywhere from this hotel in Montevideo. Staff is very friendly. They are helpful. We loved the lift, it looks like it is from 1900’s time. They offer free coffee everytime of the day and there is a good terrace.
The only problem i had is the internet connection. It only worked in first day. And as a foreigner here, it is a huge problem.

Very reasonable priced for a Hotel right in the middle of downtown Montevideo. It is located at walking distance from restaurants, bars, pubs, nightclubs, museums, and the historic district. The staff was exceptionally helpful and polite. The room was very clean and the decoration matches the early 20th century architecture of the building.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
