Stayed one night in this hotel in the centre of Montevideo, good location near the main square. The interior may not have been updated in 20 years, but it´s freshly decorated and clean and has a good nostalgic retro feel. The beds were comfortable with quality cotton linen, minibar, TV, hairdryer and very quiet. The breakfast was excellent.

The staff were okay. I left my bag with them after checkout, and when I came back to collect it in the afternoon, was disappointed to see it had been moved out into the lobby for anyone to pick up and walk away with.

Overall, though I was very happy with the hotel and thought it very good value for money.

Montevideo, unlike Buenos Aires, seems to lack hotels of charm and character. But the London Palace can´t be faulted on price or location. It´s just one block from the main avenue downtown and a short walk to the old city, where most if the city´s (few) sights are located. Don´t miss the Museum of Decorative Arts in a fin de siecle mansion. And there are two stylish restaurants in the square across from the cathedral.
Staff at the hotel are helpful and the rooms are comfortable, with quite well-appointed bathrooms for the price range. WiFi in all rooms and BBC World on cable TV are a plus. My only cavil was that I checked in early after a red-eye flight and they charged me the full rate even though I did not take advantage of the excellent buffet breakfast on arrival. They did however offer a ten percent for paying cash.

Generally, staying at the London Palace felt like going back in time to the 1970s. There was nothing really wrong with this, the room and bathroom were clean and a decent size. The staff were friendly enough, you had to leave the key with them when you left the building.

I would normally choose a more modern hotel but we left it a bit late to book during Carnival weekend and so had limited options. Probably because it was such a busy time we paid a lot for the room. I checked a week or so and noticed that the prices seemed more reasonable.

Location-wise it is walking distance from the old town and felt pretty safe, even though we were warned not to walk in a certain direction at night. The old town looked like it had nice restaurants but since we were there during the weekend and public holidays for Carnival most restaurants were closed. There were a couple of mini supermarkets close by.

The room didn't have a safe and was a bit lacking in plug sockets.

Breakfast was included, but wasn't great if (like me)  you can't eat wheat. There was plenty of bread, a few slices of ham and cheese, and fruit salad. Only coffee and orange juice, no tea.

Service is good, staff very helpful, breakfast impressive. Rooms are very small. I booked three rooms, two of them were pretty small, the third one even smaller. It has a covered free parking but apparently it shares the facility with a restaurant so they may ran out of spaces for parking. It happened to me, I waited until a guy came and released one spot for me. It's clean, although it needs some maintenance. It is good that has some connected rooms so a family can accommodate well.

The “50 or 60 year old elevator” is exactly what makes the London Palace so great. It fits the style of the hotel (dark wood/bronze fittings) and the style of the city – that is old-fashioned and not brash.
Yes, you can hear the guests in the next room (through the bathroom vent) – but it was in castellano – so who cares!
Room was good, comfortable, great bathroom complete with bath.
Breakfast was typical sweet South American – but with eggs, ham & cheese.
Great location – easy walking to all the sights. A little far for the port terminal – to see the Graf Spee relics.
For eating, Bar Hispano opposite ticks all the boxes – great food and atmosphere.
For a little entertainment with the food, then the Mercado de la Abundancia, just up the road, mixes tango with chivitos.
The Mercado del Puerto is just a tourist 'rip off' joint. To get a real feel for lunch, try Los Misiones (esq Misiones & 25 de mayo) – the daily specials are excellent – and good value.

We really enjoyed our stay here. We walked in without a reservation, and had the feeling that there would always be rooms available. The front desk staff is professional. It's a real hotel and is well managed. Excellent location, good size room, good bed and linens, good bathroom with strong shower, lots of shelf space, wifi, and quiet. Also one of the better breakfast buffets that we've had in South America. The older style of the furnishings is correct for the era of the hotel, but it's well maintained and quite comfortable. $80 a night for a double - that seems to be the going rate for a really comfortable room.

It feels like Soviet Union of 1980, everything is extremely old, all the furniture, sockets and blankets. The personel isnt attentive or whatever, i never recieved a single smile. The breakfast is not only poor with cold pastry mostly, but also everywhere around the hotel u can see warnings, if u will leave any food on your plate, u ll have to pay. How humiliating is that? 🤷‍♀️ In Soviet Union at least the food was better😎

Nice place, close to the old downtown (10 blocks from the old town) close to the river (3 blocks). For 1 night for 2 adults, 2 kids and one baby, 88 USD. Nice breakfast and good TV. Low level of noise, in summary a very good place.

You can tell that the hotel is many years old by the furniture, which gives it a classic style. The service is efficient and in accordance with what you expect from a hotel of its category. The location is optimal if your plan is to visit the city as a turist. I didn't find any unfavourable points. On the whole, it was a good experience. My stay there extended for 6 days.
