We stayed 2 nights at the Axsur Design Hotel and it was amazing. Non-smoking rooms/hotel in places other than the US is great!
Waking up and looking out at the beach, with waves rolling was fantastic. The service was top-notch, staff friendly and speaking fluent english. Breakfast was fresh fruit, croissants and lovely tea assortments and wonderful coffee.
Close to restaurants, downtown and walking tours.
If you go to Montevideo, stay at the Axsur and you'll be very pleased.

Spent 3 nights at this lovely hotel near of the Ciudad Vieja. The Rambla is a block away and most attractions in the city center are walking distance, including the Mercado del Puerto.

The staff was really pleasant and always smiling. The lady that served us breakfast every morning was a gem.

The rooms were very spacious, well equipped, modern and comfortable. I definitely would not mind staying here again.

I stayed here as first stop on a tour of Uruguay, Argentina and Brazil...

The location is superb for the old town and it’s history with a few nice places to eat and drink near by.. rooms super clean and well kept with great design.. I had a suite looking into to river. Bed one of the most comfortable I ever slept in.. ever..

Miguel on reception was super helpful, but everyone was very kind and friendly.. Carolina(?) the maid always had a smile too.

I really enjoyed my stay. Thank you.!

I can't believe this hotel is so highly rated. Both my sheets and towels were so worn there were literally holes in them. The breakfast was some cheap bread and sliced cheese. The walls were so thin I could hear every word of the TV show my neighbors were watching. The only saving graces are the staff (super helpful and kind) and the location (very central). Otherwise, I'm mad at myself for paying so much, and I would not stay there again.

We were shocked when we first arrived at the hotel. The hotel is small but centrally located. However, our trip was ruined when the woman at reception/check-in did not speak ANY English at all. We just kinda guessed everything. Asked about breakfast, no response, asked about Taxi, no response, asked about food recommendations, no response...
In the evening, there was guest arguing with the evening individual who worked reception and I could not squeeze in a chance to get ay questions in.
Lastly, the front desk is only for limited hours, so if you stay out past that time, you would need to input the code into the keypad, which did not work everytime. Room was large and decent. Elevator was small and I would not stay there again.

Everything in the ciudad vieja just minutes away. Nice view of the river. Cordial and accommodating staff. Good value. Great beds, bedding, shower. I did not try the breakfast as it wasn’t included but there are coffee shops everywhere.

Every aspect of the place exceeded my expectations. Excellent value for the price. The host was also fantastic. Nothing negative I can think of at all. The pictures speak for themselves regarding the excellent room I stayed in. :)

This is a beautifully designed hotel in a historic building. The room (suite) was spacious, lovingly decorated with beautiful furniture. The bedding was extremely comfortable, the linen crisp, the bathroom spacious. I loved my stay in this hotel and wish I had booked for more nights.

We spent 11 nights at the Axsur Design Hotel, Calle de Misiones 1260, Montevideo 11000, Uruguay, this spotlessly clean hotel is in the Ciudad Vieja (Old City). The complimentary breakfast buffet was delicious with eggs to order & piping hot coffee. It was quiet, centrally located & everything was within walking distance. All the buses can be boarded on the next block, Calle de Buenos Aires, taking you to every corner of this Mural/Grafitti filled city, they are frequent & inexpensive. It is one block from the 13.7 miles Rambla, that has the most spectacular sunsets.

The town of 25 de Agosto, Florida, Uruguay is "An Artist's Paradise", where homes, shops, restaurants & buildings have the most inspiring Murals of about 100 different topics, everyday life of the people & of this country by Leo Arti, the French Artist, who painted most of the Murals. Walking around, viewing & photographing each Mural from different angles, in this quaint town with numerous flower gardens was quite a joy. Sharing her artistic talents to this town & to everyone who visit, will leave with an abundant perspective of her talents, which will spread internationally for generations to come.

Spent a delightful day to Punta del Este stopping at Pirapolis, the Temple of San Antonio, the breathtaking & picturesque Museo Taller de Casapueblo Carlos Paez Vilaro. Enjoyed a scrumptious seafood lunch at Restaurante Napolean, dined under the umbrellas overlooking the water. Did fun photography at "The Hand in the Sand" - "Los Dedos" & The Puente Leonel Viera 1965, a stressed ribbon bridge & a final stop at the Conrad Hotel & Casino, just to look, no gambling!

Beautiful, well-maintained hotel in old town. Very nice, large room with King size bed. Included sitting area, mini fridge, TV, a/c, good size bathroom with tub and shower. Wifi worked well through-out the hotel.

As others have noted, the breakfast (included for us) is excellent. Great coffee, juice, fruit, meats and cheeses, pastries, bread, 2 choices of quiche, and other sweet fruit pies, yogurt, etc. You can also request that they cook you an omelet.

The staff were very helpful (calling taxis, telling us about the best beaches etc.) The maid staff were great too (gave us extra towels to use on the beach).

Given the mixed reviews over time of the old city, I explicitly asked the front desk person if it was safe to walk around the immediate area at night. They said it was not a problem to be out in the evening due to the big improvements in security that the city has made in recent years.

What's the best way to get from the airport to your hotel?
Answer from leonardo l
Montevideo, Uruguay
Dear Jeremy, you can take an airport taxi or we can send you a remis to wait for you , it has a cost of US $ 60, if you be interested in this option we need your flight number, day and time of arrival. Best regards
Answer from leonardo l
Montevideo, Uruguay
Dear Guest , we can provide both opctions , please let us know wich type of bed you prefer (for a couple or twin) and we manage it for you. Best regards!

Hi, We have a parking service that costs 11 usd a day. Though there s no need for you to prebook the service, you can always hire it when you reach the hotel. You can park on the streets too but it wouldn t be our best advice. Thanks for taking an interest on us and we hope to see you soon. Best regards
