Interesting and refreshing hotel – what a pleasure to get away from regular box rooms

We recently returned from a trip to Uruguay and during our time in Montevideo, chose the Belmont House. We prefer to stay in more 'interesting' properties versus the chains and we were not dissappointed with our choice. The Belmont House is a very classic property with great architecture and beautiful period style rooms and common areas. It is located in...

I have stayed at many hotels in Montevideo as I visit the city regularly. While not perfect, the Belmont is certainly better than some of the others ranked higher than it on the list. The hotel is small and old and keep in mind the hotel is in a suburban area (with nice shopping and restaurants nearby). There is only...

When I entered this hotel I thought I was somewhere in Britain. It is an old-fashioned and a bit "chintzy" hotel with an old-world charm. Small reception, like a house in the Country, flower curtains, flower carpets, flowers everywhere, heavy furniture, antique (or old). It feels more like an old house in the country than a hotel. The back has...

My husband and I were married in Montevideo and we spent our wedding night at the Belmont. We picked this hotel because of the beautiful rooms downstairs that are frequently used for bridal pictures. The suite we were given was very spacious and as part of the wedding package, we were given early check in with afternoon tea, arrived after...

I stayed at Belmont House in February. You can walk to the beach or to the little village that has great shopping (clothes, food store and pharmacy). There is an old casino that looks like it used to be very nice...now it is really run down. They say that it is going to be renovated; that would be nice. The...

Belmont House is in Carrasco, sort of a Uruguayan version of a Connecticut suburb. The cab from Tres Cruces (terminal for Buquebus, and countless other buses in Uruguay--bus travel in Uruguay is quite nice, actually, and very inexpensive) cost more than my busfare from the 2.5 hour trip from Colonia, and the cabbie didn't know where the hotel was, even...

As ever I agree with most of what has been written before. This is a comfortable rather traditional hotel in a nice neighbourhood whose food both breakfast and dinner is well above average. Staff range from superb - Gonzales? on front desk - to surly. I have rarely been cursed so obviously by a bell hop under his breath when...

The Beltmont House is a beautiful, luxury hotel in Montevideo, URuguay. There are many antiques in the lobby , library and other rooms on the ground floor. Our room was well appointed, and service was spotless. They make a point to be of help, suggesting places to visit, and printing out any requested information. For instance I asked for the...
