The price has gone up a few dollars, but still a great deal. By far they have some of the best showers in Latin America. The morning staff has very useful information on visiting tourist destinations. There is a restaurant/ bar downstairs with great food at unbeatable prices; however that means it stays a little loud until it closes at...

La Cigale is in a great location inbetween the centre and the river, close to bars and restuarants. Perfectly comfortable room with clean private bathroom and hot water. Food is wonderful and the atmosphere at night is unbeatable. It is a little more expensive than other places around, but if you want security of a good nights sleep then La...

Checked into a private room for one night then moved into the 4-bed dorm for the second night. The private room on the ground level had a very moldy smell (you can actually see the paint peeling on the walls in the bathroom) but most of the buildings in Cuenca are old so it wasnt out of the norm. I...

I have stayed at La Cigale 10+ times while living in Ecuador. It's my go-to place when I stay in Cuenca. It is Ecuadorian-owned and caters to the backpacker types. It's very economical and rooms are comfortable. Hostel-style rooms are spacious, have a bathroom inside the room and sleep four people (more if you ask politely). There are also private...

The place itself is beautiful. The decor, the rooms, and happy hour vibe is nice! At night the place comes alive, It gets noisy at the night so be prepared to go to sleep around 1130 pm. They have a great staff but some of them need to smile more and be more friendly. Stayed 3 nights over there and...

I was glad he recommended it. it is indeed VERY noisy at night but it is what it is. I was sick when I arrived but it all worked for me for one night. I am a a traveler also a gringa but NOT a mochilera - the crowd is mixed at night -- Cuencanos and gringos and extranjeros. Will...

I lived for around 5 months in Ecuador, close to Cuenca. I must have spend some 20 nights in this cosy hostel over this period. It's just one of the best hostels I've ever stayed in, no question. The staff is really friendly and hospitable and the vide is very relaxed, but never the less professional. The private rooms are...

I was so happy when I spent an evening at La Cigale with a friend and we saw this sign that said: Cheescake and Coffee for 2.85$ every day from 2-5pm. We wanted to eat cheesecake the following day. When we left that evening they charged me 40 cents more for my drink - I didn't complain, thought that it...

I had a great 4 nights stay here, at this very nice hostel in the old town center of Cuenca. The rooms were very clean and the staff more than friendly. It's a group of young owners running this place. Also a very good restaurant with good value food.. It can get a bit noisy in some rooms, but they...

Easily one of the best hostals I have stayed in. I stayed here for 6 nights in January 2012 in a private room overlooking the restaurant/bar. The room was a bit sparse but for the price ($17 per night) it was more than good enough; cleaned every day and the shower had hot water all the time. Best thing about...
