Stayed here during "rest days" between hiking some of the higher surrounding peaks. Very neat place (near Otovalo) that I'd highly recommend. It's not new and modern, but that's the point. 500 year old hacienda with a beautiful property and spacious rooms with fireplace. Pool. Great food and staff. We had the pleasure of an oral history by the owner...

This place is really a gem of bygone glory days. It is a fascinating piece of history, 400 years old and I don't think there has been much maintenance since it was built, so, no heating just fireplaces needing to be fed wood all night, not terribly clean accommodation, almost invisible staff, derelict courtyard, roofs covered in plants and moss,...

We traveled here as part of group tour. We stayed in the older rooms that opened to the courtyard. The hacienda had a lot of character; we were certain that somebody, before the night was over, would see a ghost. It ended up being one of the best sleeps we had on our whole trip. The rooms were very basic...

There are several misleading things about TripAdvisor's review page for this Hacienda. First, the 'owner photos' on this site are not from Hacienda Guachala, and second, Guachala is much closer to Cayambe than Quito. I have visited Guachala many times over the past dozen or more years. It's special for many reasons but it's the very quiet and serene mood...

An absolutely perfect place to stay in Ecuador. Straight out of central casting for haciendas and 100 years ago. It is so perfect because nobody is trying to make it anything that it isn't. Guachala is a perfect experience. The photos on this site are WRONG - the photos from TRAVELERS are correct. I am going to email the owners...

I have stayed here on several occassions. It is truly a historic place with a past. If you listen carefully, you can hear the many voices of people that once lived here. Rooms are comfortable although the beds were really uncomfortable! Food was really good. Take a walk and explore the grounds- amazing!

A very unique place to stay. As previous reviewers have commented do not expect the Hilton. This is 400 years of history and not much has changed in this time . Furnishings are period to the home, rooms basic but there is hot water and a fireplace. Only me and one other guest for the night and staff left after...

We stayed here with our family for one night and had four meals. The food and service was great, but the rooms, although spacious and the shower facilities are of a low standard. The saving grace was the undercover swimming pool.

A wonderfully authentic (do not expect lavish accommodations if traveling for the right reasons. Culture) Hacienda with rich history. The host is a remarkable individual with significant Ecuadorian heritage. If you are lucky you might hear his story over a magnificent Ecuadorian cuisine and even more magnificent wine. We were a group of mountaineers on our way to Cayambe when...

The photos posted by management are not from this hotel. The ones posted by others are. This is a 16th century hacienda and it shows. It appears to have been fixed up a decade or two ago but hasn't seen much maintenance. The bathroom tiles need grouting, it needs paint and above all new mattresses. The staff are friendly, food...
