First the good: Kapawi lodge lies in a beautiful corner of the world and is an exceptional place to experience the flora and fauna of that beautiful corner. We had daily excursions with an extremely knowledgeable guide and a fantastic translator (more on her below), each of which had a different focus on the culture of the region as well...

Wonderful eco-lodge, staff are the secret weapon. Warm, attentive despite language barrier. Nourishing delicious food. Time stands still in this location and provides a unique opportunity to connect with the Achuar people and oneself

Kapawi Lodge was like taking a pilgrimage into the rainforrest. I don't know of any other lodge that is actually run by the indigenous people of the area--the Ashwar. If you want to experience what it's truly like for two cultures to come together, this is the place. Don't expect to be pampered. Expect to be transported into another world.
