Spent two nights here. Renato picked us up from Quito and then dropped us off at the observation area where we could hike down to the hostal. Renato and the staff were very nice and helpful during our stay and couldn't ask for anymore. The dogs were an added bonus. This is a great place to relax or do outdoor...

I loved this place with the hummingbirds flying around so close! Sitting in a very hot jacuzzi with a view on the mountains, you feel like you are in paradise! The staff is very friendly and helpfull and there are very nice dogs walking around too :). The food was fantastic! No choosing difficulties, no decisions to make, just sit...

Pululahua Hostel was definitely at the top end of our backpacker budget but it was money well spent for a few days relaxing. Nice hostel well off the beaten track in the small community at the bottom of Pululahua Crater. If you are travelling super light you could keep the costs down by walking to the hostel from the mirador...

Renato together with his wife Paola were terrific hosts! It was an adventure to reach the Hostal and would never have found it if Renato had not graciously picked us up from our hostal in Quito. When we left, we were going to Otavalo and he took us all the way to our hostal there - over 2 hours away!...

Getting there is an adventure in itself, 13 km down a bumpy dirt road, single lane, to reach the hostal at the bottom of the caldera of a dormant volcano.... but is actually is worth it.....peaceful, quiet, meant for hikes, horserides, and communing with nature, just as they advertise...Rooms are not elegant, they are not meant to be and they...

Pululahua Hostel may be one of the finest "off the beaten path" venues I've stayed at in many many years of traveling. The facilities are very well kept, the staff very helpful, and the setting is incomparable. The lodge is at the bottom of an ancient caldera which gives constant views of the valley and the surrounding ridges. Hiking, biking,...

We extended our stay with Paola and Renato from 2 to 4 days, since the caldera as such is a unique and beautiful place and we got good contact (had nice discussions) with the owners/staff and other - domestic - guests, but also some nice talks with other people living in the valley. They have/are about to increase the sustainability...

Stayed for one night, as I arrived after dark didn't see much of the outside. The quality of my room was superb, the food delicious, and people friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Spent the next day with Renato birding and saw a wide range of species, including Oilbird. Renato is an excellent birder and has a "nothing is too much trouble"...

Beautiful property with exceptional hospitality. We wanted a low-key honeymoon that focused on visiting less tourist driven spots. Renato coordinated with us to visit spots that were important for us: a chocolate producer in Mindo and traditional food markets. Our stay exceeded our expectations by at least 1,000 times! We loved the organic breakfasts available each morning and enjoyed time...

Back again for the fifth time and the place keeps my positive recommendation. Remember, this Hostal is small and fairly remote...[you'll know why after you arrive to rest after the ride or hike down into the crater]...and so I don't expect or want 'The Ritz'...you shouldn't either. It is a great place to 'get away'. Hike, bird watch, horse ride,...
