The tiniest room (even if you have a kind-of-good one), with the toilet and shower inside the bedroom. When you have your luggage inside, you can't even move. Smells like they have never opened the windows. But I guess that the problem is about being Singapore, because ALL the hotels are overpriced there (that is why I would recommend a...

Dear Elena B, Thank you for taking time to share this with us. Housed in a conservation building, most of our rooms are rather compact and indeed not very big but perfect for the solo traveller looking for a strategic base to explore the city. Nevertheless, we appreciate your visit and we hope to welcome you back in the future....

I spent two nights at Hotel 1929 in early December 2016 for my first visit to Singapore. The alluring photo of the hotel's facade was the main reason for me to pick this one out of other hotels clustered in Chinatown area. I'll start with the good parts: Location is really good, right next to the bustling Chinatown but on...

We stayed 4 nights at the hotel for our first visit to Singapore. It is perfectly situated in west end of Chinatown and easy to get to from airport on a direct line to Outram Park; also even closer to Chinatown stop so excellent for getting about to see the sights. Our hotel room was immaculately clean, and well serviced...

I was keen to visit Hotel 1929 after thoroughly enjoying my stay at Wanderlust hotel last year, and seeing that this residence (part of the Unlisted Collection) has the same kind of quirky cool approach to hospitality. It's a design boutique hotel in every sense - from the cool retro touches like retro chairs in the lobby, to the fabulously...

This hotel is situated in a quiet street of renovated shop-houses in Chinatown (about 7 min walk from Outram Park MTR station - on the airport line). The shop-houses have been immaculately restored. I was greeted with a complimentary drink ... and these are available throughout one's stay. There is good security - access by key card to lift, stairs...

This charming little hotel is close to Chinatown and 2 railway stations which makes it quite yanfy to get around if need be. The staff are very friendly and went above and beyond to help. The rooms are small but accommodating.

I stayed in this hotel for 5 nights. I got a corner room on 2nd floor (far right when entering the hotel). Man, it was noisy as hell. I never got proper sleep any of the nights. Other than that, I liked the hotel for: 1. Location: Within walking distance to Chinatown and Maxwell food center. There are several other...

Hi lightonthestreet, Thank you for taking time to share this candid review. We appreciate honest feedback as they serve as opportunities for improvement. Located along Keong Saik Road, the streets can a little bustling at night, and we would be glad to offer and assist with a room change if we do have availabilities facing the back lane. I really liked the location of the hotel and the staff were incredibly helpful throughout my stay. While the room I stayed in was small, it was perfectly adequate and I had no problem with fitting both me and my suitcase in the room as some other reviews have suggested. My only real issue was the price - your money...

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
Chinatown is a classic combination of colourful sights, enticing smells, and sometimes startling sounds. The precinct is unique, however, in its blending of religions and cultures. A Hindu temple, an Islamic mosque, and a Chinese Buddhist temple sit almost side by side. This sense of cultural harmony continues as you venture just outside of Chinatown to the nightlife areas of Club Street and Duxton Hill. There you’ll mingle with Singapore’s multicultural residents at the modern bars and restaurants dotting the bustling streets. An afternoon in and around Chinatown will leave you culturally enlightened, well fed, and loaded with souvenirs. In the evening, reward yourself with a well-deserved cocktail as the locals come out to play.
