As a frequent traveller all over the world, its always a joyable moment to come back to Ali's Nest. The warm genuine personal welcome of Singapore by Ali and the family. You wont get this in any other place. This hotel is not perfect, however thats the charm of this place which makes it extra special rememorable and i can assure you, you will never forget the place in a possitive mindset. The location is really at the heart of Singapore. Taking the underground which is litterly next door (100m) to the nearest entrance. Which brings u everywhere. The cheapest and best way to travel in singapore. No expesive cabs nor headache with busses. You wont expect 5 star luxery, however with the cheapest price in singapore you will get defitnily the value for your money.

It is probably the cheapest accomodaton in Singapore, but I really enjoyed it. Location is excellent - literally two minutes to the metro station. Room is small and very simple, but in mine there was AC and a very strong wifi. I did not have any problems with sleep. In the common area (sort of living room) you can meet other travellers and listen to beautiful classical music which is being played all day long :) as mentioned here several times - coffee and tea are served all day long, and there is a breakfast in the morning (toasts, butter and jam). Ali is very nice, friendly and helpful.

The only negatives were people smoking inside and the fact that the kitchen was part of the common area - sometimes the smells of cooking (Asian) were really strong and disturbing. But these re minor points, in overall I really liked my stay at Ali's and will definitly come back.

We come to Ali/s Nest after a long and tired day travelling with lot of issues. He was very friendly, his place is a real NEST, where everybody left his best wishes and messages to him and the memories built there. It was a relief to stay here. I immediately receive a warm welcome from Ali, with coffee, tea, ready to drink a good map of the city, lot of advice and a simple but comfy room. The bath is shared (i took the cheapest option) but is clean and everything in the house is for your use. There were also more travellers with we talk immediately and including to Ali in the conversation we talk about cultural facts (western/eastern). Im very happy for his help and to meet him in Singapore.

After years of trying different hostels and small hotels, all overpriced, I finally came across Ali's Nest in Farrer Park. You can get a dorm room here for super cheap or a decent size single room for much much cheaper than you'll get anywhere else in Singapore. Outstanding value for money along with a very friendly owner and a good friendly atmosphere amongst other travelers. I no longer have to keep searching for a decent place in Singapore.

Nice guy and friendly atmosphere. If you choose to stay there because of a tight budget, try to avoid the rooms under the roof, especially during the rainy season..The service, sleep quality and cleanliness are average.

I have several problems with this place.

First and foremost, it is hugely annoying (and rude) of the owner not to reply to any emails. I have contacted Ali one week before our arrival in Singapore to book a room and asked for a quick email back to confirm our booking. Standard procedure. Never got a reply. I then emailed him again two days before our arrival, as I wanted to make sure we have a place to stay. Nothing. This is very bad customer service.

Anyways, we went there (keep in mind there's no big sign outside advertising the place) and were greeted by two elderly ladies sitting in the lounge. They signalled us to sit down while one of them went to get Ali.

The other lady had peed herself and there was a big, yellow puddle of pee on the tiled floor. Don't get me wrong, this is her house, she can do whatever she wants, but it is not the kind of place I want to spend my holiday at.

A few minutes later, Ali arrived and showed us the rooms upstairs. There's a dorm (it has 8 beds if I'm not mistaken), which only has a window into the kitchen/communal area. Then there's a fan double, which was shocking: There's a mattress on the floor, that's it. The wallpaper is peeling off, there's stains on the wall. Next there was a double with A/C, which was in no better state but at least it had a bed in it (a bunk bed though). There was big mould stains on the ceiling and the AC unit looked as if it was from the 30s.

The bathroom was very basic but at least at first glance looked clean enough.

Long story short, we checked the place out and left. Don't get me wrong, we're shoestring backpackers, and over the past 10 months we have been staying at some dumps, but this was too much even for us.

Yes it is cheap for singapore standards (35S$ for the AC double), but you can get a bunk bed in a nice hostel for 20 per person, which doesn't work out that much more expensive.

I would not recommend this to anyone, maybe with the exception of poor party students who will just go out, party, drink and don't care where they stay :)

Singapore is so expensive compared to other Asian countries so it was a great surprise to find a place that only charges 35 Singaporean dollars for 2 persons in a private room with aircondition. Ali's Nest is not for everyone. This is a place for people who are OK in a basic room (just bed and air-con or bed and electric fan) who are looking for the hostel feel without too much going on (there's not too many rooms, so not too many people). There are 3 floors, which house 2 rooms on the first floor, 1 dorm (mixed) on the 2nd and Ali's family room, and 3 private rooms on the 3rd floor. The common kitchen and living room is on the 2nd floor, which is a nice place to hang out with fellow travellers. The 2nd and 4rd floor have the bathroom and toilet, but the one on the 3rd floor is intended for guests while the one on the 2nd is for Ali's family. We stayed here on 2 occasions, one on a visit in January and another in February. It is very close to MRT station (Farrer Park, Exit F) and a good walking distance from Mustafa Center (24 hours mall), City Square Mall (Singapore's first eco friendly mall), Tekka Market Center (a market and a hawker center that serves great Indian and Chinese dishes at a cheaper price than other hawker centers) and some Hindu temples.

We stayed at Ali's for four nights at the beginning of Nov 2010.
Rooms and bathrooms are clean, simple but adequate - and at $sin35 for a double, aircon room, probably the cheapest in Singapore.
The guest house is right in the middle of Little India and close to MRT stations and bus routes.  I'd definately stay there again.

Basic, friendly and great price and location. I have met many wonderful travellers here over the decades and the private rooms, small as they are work well enough in a pricy city, give it a go, Trnsport and food and cheap alley way beers are all close at hand.

Although this place is rather expensive (if you have been staying in rooms for £7 on your travels), Ali is very accommodating. On our arrival he helped us plan our trips to the zoo, botanical gardens, Clark quey, Chinatown and Orchard road.

Situated in Little India and a 2 min walk to the MRT, the homestay is in a good location (you can hardly have a bad location in Singapore as everywhere is so close). It took just over an hour on the MRT from and to the airport and a lot cheaper than a taxi (get off at Farrer Park).

The room was basic. Our double room was just the bed and a small area for our bags. Walls are thin but still slept fine. AC and fan, so cool enough. Also we had WiFi throughout.

Negatives were that we could have done with a bin in our room and that he let's people smoke inside.
