The location is good, if with a bit of a baggage from the past. Geylang has been the primary red-light district of Singapore. However, you'll be forgiven totally for not noticing anything out of ordinary. There are a lot of food places within walking distance. However, if you are looking for a Western fast-food place like McD or Dominos or... More

Average hotel stay, Only good point is the location, close to the MRT and Bus stop. The rooms are not that great and after evening the ground floor becomes hosts for weird activities. It's ok if you are staying just for a day, because one can find more places around same cost. Also checkout Katong area, if you want a... More

What an absolute hovel. By far one of the worst hotel experiences I've ever had and one of the worst places I've ever stayed (even better in Cambodia). First off. Wifi worked for 20 mins, off for an hour, worked for 10, then off all night. Then worked again in the morning for an hour....then off again. No duvet or... More

This was a place to sleep and not much else. The internet only worked downstairs in the foyer, not in the individual rooms. The cleanliness was average. The bathroom facilities were outdated. The service from the staff was very helpful. The location was conveniently close to a train station, on a busy road.

I wasn't able to find the backpacker's hostel on where I am supposed to check-in. The hostel was very difficult to find and with the limited nighttime and mobility, I ended up booking in a relative more expensive and middle-valued hotel, I did it out of "no-choice". But, honestly, I found Lai Ming Hotel, well, good enough for an overnight... More

We were walk-in guests for 02 nights at Lai Ming hotel. Our room was a superior room, much better than standard rooms (larger, cleaner, larger bed, with air-conditioning, a sofa and a minibar which didn't work during our stay!). The room is in front of the reception, sometimes it was a little bit noisy but in overall it is OK.... More

Simply put there are much better options within walking distance of this hotel... dirty, badly maintained, poor service and overpriced. The location is a red light district and the sound of hookers coming and going every 10 minutes is not good for sleeping.

Staying in Geylang

Neighbourhood Profile
Geylang
Only a short journey from Singapore’s sparkling and polished city centre, Geylang is a world away. Here in one of the least touristy areas of Singapore, visitors are privy to an unfiltered glimpse of Singapore life. On Sunday afternoons, migrant workers gather in Geylang to let off steam after a tough week. At the eastern end of Geylang Road, families and friends happily enjoy picnics. By contrast, at the western end, a more colourful side of Singapore can be seen, as street workers mingle with Sunday revelers in outdoor coffee shops. Take a friend, grab a beer and a local meal (frog porridge, perhaps?), and settle in to enjoy the show.
