I went to Hong Kong with my friends during the week when I was not working. This time, I chose the destination near Wan Chai for shopping and eating, so I only chose suitable hotels nearby. In the end, I chose the Fern Hotel with a full sense of design.
The entrance of the hotel is not easy to find, so you need to pay more attention. You can feel the enthusiasm of the service when checking in on the second floor. This time I booked a super large room. The style of the room is inspired by the Star Ferry, which has a retro feeling of old Hong Kong. I quite like it. The toilet is separated into dry and wet areas 👍🏻 The bedding and pillows are quite comfortable.
The next day, I had dinner in the hotel restaurant, which was quite comfortable. I chose a healthy breakfast, which was quite good. I like the crispy toasted bread with butter, which is very delicious.
Finally, it is worth mentioning that the hotel’s superior geographical location satisfies the heart of a foodie like me to go to Hong Kong. There are many restaurants nearby that I have always wanted to check in, such as Kam’s Roast Goose, My Cup of Tea, Thai noodles, etc. In the evening, you can also take a taxi to Central to have a drink with my sisters, which is very pleasant.
In general, I still recommend it. I'll share the hotel with you:

The room design is very unique, and the services in all aspects are very good. The free breakfast is very pleasant. The only drawback is that the rooms near the road are a little noisy. Friends who have high requirements for sleep can communicate with the front desk in advance. The location is excellent. It is located in the core area of Wan Chai. It is very convenient to walk to anywhere. It belongs to the core area of Hong Kong. You can experience many characteristics of old Hong Kong. The facilities in the room are also relatively complete. The space is not small in Hong Kong hotels. The larger room type has a workbench and a sofa area, which is rare. The bathroom does not have a bathtub but the hygiene is very good and it feels spotless. Overall, it is recommended. Interested friends can consider it.

The Fleming is a very well designed boutique hotel in the heart of Wan Chai. It is a two minute walk from the MTR station and five minutes or so from the tram so very good location. The rooms are relatively spacious and have some really cool decor. Breakfast was delicious and the waiters were always polite and proactive. There is a concierge at the entrance who always helps with directions and reservations etc…

A few things they could change to make this hotel even better!

Firstly, it says all twin rooms (large) have a double vanity - they don’t! I think we were in 902 and that had one!
Only one tea or coffee included in the breakfast - a bit stingy I think!
Not enough hanging/wardrobe space for anything longer than 3 or 4 nights!

Aside from this, the Fleming is a great hotel and a perfect base to explore Hong Kong from!

To all those curious about how the Fleming treated theirs customers.

My family and I booked the room at the Fleming Hotel for our vacation in Hong Kong. We booked for 2 rooms from 2nd March to 6th March (4 nights), and yes, this just happened recently as I am writing this review with heart full of doubts on the hotel’s services standard and hospitality.

We spent in total of 14324.64 HKD and I do not know if this is a lot amount of money for the hotel or not, but for us; we hope to get something back from our hard-earned money and hope to get some nice experience as I have studied and read loads of reviews on various sites.

The hotel in general looks nice and we actually enjoyed our stay at first, but then there are some issues about the laundry services that entirely changed our mood and thought about this property.

I sent out my jeans for the ‘dry cleaning’, which costed me about 88 HKD. I was more than happy to pay for this amount as the hotel staff ensured me that my jeans will come out nice and clean after the dry clean process.

Unfortunately, once I received the jeans back, the leather tag at the back had a great sign of ‘wrinkles’. Thus I took the picture of the jeans before sending them for the laundry service; this means the wrinkles surely caused during the service. I have found out later that the cleaning service and the hotel staff had a miscommunication and my jeans ended up in the washing machine with normal cleaning procedures instead of dry cleaning service that I have paid for.

I reached the hotel staff and pointed out the problem regarding to my jeans, and what he offered is 880 HKD in return (as the laundry service insurance can only cover 10 times cost of the service fee) and the hotel was more than happy to give us their signature ‘scented candle’.

My family and I were not happy about the circumstances and trying to ask the hotel manager for the better solution. They said that they will help send out the jeans to the shop in order to fix the leather tag, but I have to pay for all the fixing cost myself.

When I heard this solution from the hotel authorities, what came into my mind is ‘Why on earth do I have to pay for the mistake that was not caused by me on under any of my responsibilities?’. I was NOT happy with this solution and asking for the alternative, so the hotel staff asked me to go back to my country and asking the shop to fix the tag by myself. This is the most ridiculous and irresponsible thing I have ever heard.

Till now some of you might think that why does only a pair of jeans made me write the entire review on this site, actually my jeans cost about 9000 HKD and the leather tag fixing cost might be very high. But apart from the price tag of my jeans, no one deserves this. No matter how much your piece of clothes worth, you do not deserve to be treated poorly and in such an irresponsible manner from the property who claims to be ‘Small Luxury Hotel.’

So before you pick this hotel for your next vacation, please reconsider it first. With this amount of money you can find many great properties in Hong Kong that are more than happy to treat you like you really are their customer.

The design style of the room is very special. My friends and I have always wanted to stay in the hotel to take photos. All the details are very good, which makes us want to stay in a retro hotel. There are many places in the lobby where you can take photos, but you may have to go earlier. Check-in was very busy at 3 o'clock that day, so you have to find another time to take photos. The hotel has few facilities, but there are many coffee shops and some local restaurants near Wan Chai. The staff at G/f also took the initiative to introduce some check-in restaurants and coffee shops to us. The location of the hotel is also very convenient. It is very close to the MTR station and Causeway Bay. I usually walk slowly to Causeway Bay and then go shopping for snacks! ! !

Relatively quiet location in Wan Chai but easy 3 minute walk to the MTR.
We booked a non refundable deal for an extra large room with breakfast included and the price was attractive, the normal rates are quite high.
The room and bathroom were spacious, nicely decorated, clean and comfortable. Aircon and WiFi worked well. Sound proofing was good. The shower was large and powerful. Lighting could be a bit brighter.
Breakfast buffet was quite nice though only one coffee or tea provided in the inclusive package.

Front Desk staff (1/F Reception)
Front desk staff (Tom) is nice and professional. He provided us with a seamless check in process, from greeting us to giving us the key, it only took us five minutes in total. And I appreciated the process is short yet precise like he skipped some unnecessary steps, especially when he took a copy of our id card then he could insert the relevant information afterward and avoided keeping the guests waiting on the spot. He not only introduced essential information (i.e. the breakfast inclusion, wifi password) unambiguously but also handled our questions patiently and politely while giving human touch to us at the same time by addressing us with our last name and maintaining a certain level of eye contact.

But one point I have to say is that I noticed there are no name tags with the front desk staff which made it hard for me to give compliments and recognition.

Reception staff (G/F)
Other staff like the staff on the G/F are proactive as well. They will always come up to ask if you are checking in or going to have breakfast and guide you through patiently.

Operator and Housekeeping staff
One point that I am so impressed with is that the operator picked up our call quickly and addressed our needs patiently. They first addressed us with our last name and explained the solution to us step by step (we are confused about the connection of the Airplay). Besides, we are so surprised that our needs are being satisfied in such a quick manner. We called to have two extra bottles of water at night and the housekeeping staff sent us the water in just 2 minutes which is really efficient!

Guest Experience
We are so happy that they are flexible when it comes to some amendments. Since I am not into alcohol so I had my partner ask in advance if the package inclusion (sparkling wine I guess) can change to dessert instead. I am so happy that they offered us chocolate cookies while keeping the wine for us plus the heart-warming handwritten welcome card. We can feel that the GE team had genuinely done their very best to fulfil the guests’ needs so as to meet their expectations.

Overall experience
We are happy and satisfied with the attentiveness of the staff. They are proactive, polite and professional which made our stay memorable and perfect enough that we would definitely come back in the future! Once again, thank you so much for all the arrangements!

It’s our second stay in The Fleming in just two weeks time (if my memory serves haha)

Before arrival, GE AM (Matthew Yuen) had been communicating with me to make sure everything is fine. Despite numerous special requests (i.e. asking for extra pillow/ bottle water), Matthew replied my email quickly and guaranteed the request is well noted. Thank you so much Matt!

Upon arrival, Tom noticed us and immediately guided us to his colleagues for check in (since he is occupied with another guest). The whole check in procedure is pleasant that we both didn’t experience any waiting.

One thing we have to say is that we questioned the location of food delivery (whether it will send to concierge or reception). The reception staff told us the food will be sent to reception and they will call whenever food arrive. When the food arrive, we planned go down and pick it up. But then Tom shew up with our food already. We feel so happy actually cuz we didn’t expect that since we understand that there are not much staff in the reception, but he is still trying his best to do whatever he can. Even though this is just a little thing, that indeed made our day. I can’t stress enough how much I appreciate the effort and sincerity that they devoted to the guests.

We both are just ordinary guests, but they are still willing to go as far as they can to ensure guests to have a pleasant stay. This is the one thing that makes Fleming more than just a vintage designed boutique hotel and a bit different from the all hotels which will be the first option that come to our mind when we are thinking to stay.

Unfortunately, I had to go to work early the next day. Hope to stay with you guys longer next time and please keep up the good work!

Excellent stay experience !
Clean and tidy room with built-in audio system. You can hear music in the toilet and bathroom as well.
Very happy to have USB charging. The room is also well-equipped, such as cutlery set, hair dryer, umbrella, drinking glass and air purifier. I think the room can be further improved by providing wine/beer tasting glass. I will certainly recommend and visit again.

Dear Chetan198 Thank you for your kind message. These are the answer for your questions: 1. Each of our rooms has been thoughtfully designed for maximum comfort and charm, in a timeless classic style inspired by Hong Kong’s iconic cross-harbour ferries. However, the bathrooms in our rooms do not have bathtubs. 2. Osteria Marzia by the acclaimed Black Sheep Restaurant group serves coastal Italian cuisine so you have many options to choose during the breakfast. The most famous is Marzia Breakfast that includes: Italian pastries, jams and spreads with a choice of orange juice, coffee or tea. 3. Causeway Bay is really near. Arrive there only will take 10 minutes by taxi, 20 minutes by MTR or 30 minutes if you prefer walk. Let us know if you have any further questions. With warm regards The Fleming
