I had 7 days holiday and stayed at this hotel which is right in the main road of Nathan rd in Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, HK. It was just 3 mins walk to and from the station exit A2 - Tsim Sha Tsui MTR station. The hotel itself has access to nearby local restaurant or McDonalds, Starbucks, Indonesian restaurant, Korean restaurant or church. What lack about this hotel are the room is small, I had a double bed room which is probably 4m x 3m the size of the room. The bathroom is inside and when you have a shower, you have to squish in between the spaces. I don't recommend for westerner people as the bathroom is too small to move around. Since I don't expect big room and I only need place to rest and recharge so I don't mind staying in this hotel. It is secure as the building has a cctv and local reception or a guard per said. The main door to the building is closed around 10pm but not lock, just having the steel door sort of close. Overall, it is not bad if you are a kind of person don't expect too much with the local standard hotel.

Hotel Location is Good, and rooms cleanliness is also good
But rooms are too small to adjust your baggage too

Hotel Staff are not courteous
Common amenities missing even like dressing mirror

I won't recommend this hotel for families if you are alone and you just need a space to sleep and recharge your mobile/laptop then might be OK otherwise definitely not.

This hotel has one of the best locations at a fair price. Rooms are newly renovated but quite small.
Though I should warn you that they tend to overbook clients. You will only find out if that happens when you are already checking in. But overall, its a decent hotel at a great location.

This hotel is located in the middle of a building. At first, we thought it was something like an apartment. Everything still went ok, until they told us that our rooms weren't ready. We had reserved our rooms using an online service, and had requested for a late check-in. So we were horrified that we had no rooms available yet. anyhow, we had our late dinner and came back. When we returned, they brought us down the main road of Tsim Tsa Tsui to another building where they said our rooms were!! The room they brought us to was just a random room rented off somewhere!! It was an absolutely tiny room that had not even enough place to fit our luggages! The bathroom is built inside the room and was too small to even hang any towels! It was definitely the worst experience we have ever had.

We booked this hotel because of the location, cost and because it offered a family room. On arrival, at 1.30 in the morning, the hotel couldn't find our booking, although we could clearly see our name written down in the arrivals book! The receptionist didn't know what to do so made a phone call to someone who instructed him to give us a full refund so that we could go and find alternative accommodation. By now it was 2.30 in the morning, we have 2 children and have never been to Hong Kong before so obviously this was not a suitable solution, we explain this to the member of staff who then suggested we could stay in the one room that was available - a single bedded room, by this time we were willing to compromise and went to look at the room. The room was down a corridor which was full of workmanship tools and even had a wheelbarrow in it! The room itself was tiny with the smallest single bed that I have every seen, my husband and I couldn't stand by the side of the bed and close the door - obviously unsuitable for 4 people to stay in. At this point our patience was running out, we had a child asleep in the hotel lobby and the other one worrying that we would be sleeping on the street in Hong Kong, we explained to the receptionist that he would need to find us alternative accommodation to which his reply was that he didn't think he would be able to find us anything. I encouraged him to try and he made a phone call, he was very cuffed with himself when he said that he had found something - a room in the guest house across the road which "old and not very nice" I am sure you can imagine our reaction!

It was at this point that we contacted our booking agent - Agoda - who were very helpful and eventually found us alternative accommodation.

I would not recommend that anyone stay in this, I use this term loosely, hotel.

It was easy to find this hotel as it is very near to Tsim Sha Tsui MTR and Bus A21 from the airport.
Pros:
1. Near to MTR, shops (in fact you will see the shops repeating every 500m)
2. Tsui Wah Restaurant right at the Ground level
Cons:
1. Super small, not even a space for luggage (gotta put it underneath the bed)
2. Lift is small and slow, can only accommodate 4 person at one time (max 6 person, i only saw once)
3. Bed is hard (at least for me)
4. Considered pricey.
5. Toilet is super compact. Everything you need is there but super cramp. Can't even sit properly on toilet bowl due to no space at all.
We were lucky that one of the staff there was helpful to change our room to a bigger space room. Even though not big but at least we can get some walking space.

The main theme of the other reviews here is that these rooms are very small and therefore overpriced. Yes, the rooms are microscopically small, but they are not overpriced by Hong Kong standards. I had a good experience for two nights. Everything worked, was clean, the staff was helpful, and I slept fine. I got what I expected for the money. As a point of reference, there is another hotel in Hong Kong where I often stay. The rooms are a little (not much) bigger but the building is older, the towels are thinner, and so on. So, at the California Hotel you trade down in size and up in quality. For most people visting Hong Kong, the location must be considered excellent.

There are total of three of us in this trip and the room that they provided us was big enough for the three of us. Hotel rooms in HK are always small so can't really complain much unless you are willing to pay $200+ in SG for a night. But basic necessities are provided : Clean bed, new towels changed everyday and space for us to put our luggage. Once negative point was the hotel is not smoking free so smoking is allowed in the air-conditioned environment which i personally cannot stand it. I suggest that the owner of the hotel cather a room specially for smoking for the benefit of non-smoking guests.

We really had a hard time finding this hotel. There was no visible signage outside the building! We just had to depend on the building# that the travel agency gave us. When we found it, we just had to go up in the 4th floor and see for ourselves if there was really a hotel there. Great huh?? When we reached the 4th floor, it was confirmed that are indeed at california hotel. Good thing is, the place smells good and it looks clean. The hallways are narrow. The staff was accomodating and when we were led to our room I was really surprised how small the room was. We can barely move inside. There were no windows! The bed was small, there was a tv and s mini fridge hanging on top of the bed ( to make use of all the space) as well as a dirty split type aircon. We would be dead if any of those fall off while we were sleeping. Seriously, I wasnt able to sleep, the room was a nightmare for a claustrophobic like me. I could manage small rooms but with a window but not in this hotel they had none in our room!! At 4am (no sleep at all) we had to wake up the staff on duty for 30 mins! He was snoring in the room adjacent to the desk. Good for him he had a good night sleep while we had none. We had to pay an extra 400hkd to upgrade our room. Charge 2 nights to think.that its already 4am and we had to be up at 8am for the tour! Nothing special about the upgrade, we got a twin bed, a somewhat spacious room, a window, and a water heater. By the way, i was sure i left my christian book under the pillow in the other room but when I checked it in the afternoon the staff said that the cleaner did not surrender anything in the front desk. Tsk tsk.

Hi Alvand, wifi signal was weak when you're in your room. You have to be near the receptionist area to receive strong signal wifi. I didn't use skype for it so I cannot make a comment of it. You can go to nearby McDonald or Starbuck to get free wifi with strong signal. Enjoy your trip! Kristine
